Nokia Lumia 900 – our latest photoshoot

Published by Ian Delaney on April 2, 2012

GLOBAL – We’ve been lucky enough to get a couple of gorgeous Nokia Lumia 900s in the office this week.

And then we were unlucky enough for the art director to whisk them straight out of our hands and into a photographer’s studio.

Here’s some of the fruits of his work. You can click through to full-sized versions and there’s a downloadable file, too, with all these pictures in high-resolution.

We’ll be reporting over the course of the next couple of weeks how we get on with this super-sized smartphone – with a few more pix from the shoot to look forward to. Watch this space.

Held one – the lack of curved glass was a disappointment. It took away from the style of the device.

    A subjective view, I know.

I’m wondering if it might have significantly increased the weight on such a large screen.

      • http://kjmackey.blogspot.com KjM

        Perhaps.

Why have a curved glass on an area that is supposed to be flat to match ths rest of its look and feel? I can’t imagine curved glass bugling out in the white thin side view shown above (before the last cyan image), YUCK. It is great as is.

Given swipe is such a part of the Windows Phone experience, the curve of the glass of the Lumia 800 helps with the gesture.

In the same way the curve of the glass helps with the swipe gesture on the N9.

        The Lumia 900 lacks this.

I mentioned that my view was subjective, though with some reality to back it up. My contention is that it -good- as it is, though not great.

But, the view remains subjective. I’ve seen and used what it could have been, and I don’t feel it measures up.

        Your mileage may vary.

Eye candy.  Looks like they are off to the races with Amazon at a penny and free car charger, ATT running their up to $100 off on the $99 and Walmart with it’s $49.

I’m baffled as to why the People hub wasn’t populated for these photos.  That hub is one of the main features of WP, and makes the phone visually ‘alive’; so even by populating the People hub with ‘fake’ people would have been better than leaving it blank with only the Facebook icon.

A faux pas on the photographers part, in my opinion.

I am hearing that it is possible that Windows Phone 8 will not be compatible with phone released with this current version of Windows Phone (it could be 7.0 phones). Can someone from Nokia clarify if Nokia 900 will get Windows Phone 8 when it is released (or hopefully shortly thereafter) ?

I have that one right here on my desk. (For about another 48 hours, anyway).

Go ahead Ian. Kick a man while he’s down :’(

Let me start writing my application for the one of the coolest jobs in the world. Working on the dev team of something that will go in one of those Lumias.

Since no information was forthcoming on Windows Phone 8 for Nokia 900, I went out and Googled. On a site called ubergizmo or something similar they have a supposed quote from a Nokia person indicating the answer to Windows Phone 8 on 900 question is “We don’t know yet”. Thought I would share that with others here who might be interested.

This phone is not “super-sized” at all. That name is reserved for anything that carries a 4.5″ display and above like the One X, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, and especially Galaxy Note LTE.

One day you’ll realize that Nokia, and you’ll finally tell your employees to stop making ridiculous comments about bigger displays which a lot of people have come to like. Check the sales of the Galaxy S II and you can clearly see that. The fact that it took you this long to release a phone with a 4.3″ display really sheds some light on how far behind you’ve fallen.

Anyway, the phone does look really good, but I’m concerned about the edge of the display becoming a bother all the time, as I’ve read from several sources now.

I could have invested in the Google Nexus 4 or HTC’s latest offering but I couldn’t wait and I decided as a consumer and previous owner of a Nokia, that the Nokia-110 model best suits my needs. I did find that Android has a few concerning privacy issues in the control mechanism where Android festers on its ability to harvest and control aspects of the communication base, (without the user’s knowledge or consent)? I don’t personally agree with having my details (phone contacts) distributed or used for marketing purposes to the advantage of the manufacturer and if this is the going trend, then as a personal right to all consumers, there should be a governing body that will ensure royalties are given to each user, based upon the advertising framework at play. Anything less, would be calculated fraud.

Thank God Nokia does not have the Android capability in the Nokia – 110 model.
