Lumia vs. Lumia: Laptop Magazine readers vote on the best smartphone

final bracket

GLOBAL – We’re not the only people who picked up on the idea of running a March Madness tournament, of course. The folks at Laptop Magazine have been publishing a similar campaign based on the idea of finding people’s favourite smartphone.

We were very pleased to find two of our children – the Nokia Lumia 900 and Lumia 710 – in the group of sixteen phones selected by the editors for consideration.

We were delighted when the community voted both those phones into the ‘Aristocratic Eight’.

And we were absolutely over the moon when they got through to the ‘Penultimate Four’.

Then they were both in the final. Terrific news but it left us with a predicament. Who were we to vote for? The big, strapping Nokia Lumia 900 is top-of-the-range with all the features, but the Lumia 710 has won a lot of fans since launch. Many argue that its more familiar, ‘phone-sized’ dimensions make it a better fit for their hands and pockets.

We had to let the people decide. And now they have.

the winner takes a bow

Winner of the Laptop Magazine Smartphone Madness tournament is… the Nokia Lumia 900 (by a rather decisive 4225 votes to 454).

While half the office is breaking out champagne, the other half has burst into tears. Would you have voted for the Nokia Lumia 900 or the Lumia 710?

I would vote for the Nokia N9 and the 808 PureView instead!

Yea that would end badly with only 7 others voting with you :P

Yes, with 14 likes? This would prove the voting was manipulated from the beginning. Look where it was hosted!

    I’d have a 710 as a work phone and a 900 as a personal phone

A very worthy winner! Really hope the Lumia 900 does well in the US.

Looks like I am gonna learn Finnish national anthem. As a proud owner of Lumia 800 Cyan I am very happy with the results and feel like a part of a family.

    I may vote for the 1st truly Nokia influenced/designed Lumia’s that come w/WP8. i.e. 2nd gen Lumias.
1st gen. simply aren’t good enough to justify being voted “better” than current top-end Android/iPhone/other.

I voted for both actually, but in the end.. 900, I just wish here in the USA it was not carrier specific.  For now I’ll stick with my unlocked N8 with a T-mobile sim, can’t wait for 8.0 and hopefully a Lumia with a PureView camera.. and be compatible with T-mobile. $90 a month at the minimum to power a smartphone on AT&T, is too much money.

I’m $39 for 450 minutes and $25 for 2GB data….that’s it..on ATT on my N9 smartphone. They will let me upgrade to the white 900 on the 8th of June at 10:00a.m.
Erik, if you want my roll over minutes , i have 1200 so far and not quite a year.
