ESPOO, Finland - You may have seen some excitement online about a new TV service from Nokia for our Lumia smartphones.

We are very pleased to be able to confirm that Nokia TV, the latest Lumia entertainment offering from Nokia following Nokia Music and Nokia Reading, will be introduced in Finland in the coming weeks.

Like Nokia Music and Nokia Reading, Nokia TV creates a free signature hub experience for catch-up TV services.

When the service launches, users of Lumia smartphones in Finland will be able to conveniently browse or search through the available catalogues of catch-up TV services from major local broadcasters and then stream a chosen show directly to their phone – without any sign up or registration.

“With Nokia TV we are bringing existing services in Finland together in a convenient way. We’re making it easier for people to find and watch TV, while supporting broadcasters’ existing internet TV business models,” said Mika Suomela, head of TV and video at Nokia.

“Finland is the ideal country in which to introduce this service due to its advanced mobile user base and great existing broadcaster catch-up TV services.”

Right now we’re being patriotic and only launching it in Finland.

        @hlemmety:disqus

Is this coming to the N9?
What about Nokia Car Mode which “was” promised several times last yr & early this yr?

        Thank-you.

        • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Heidi Lemmetyinen

Nokia TV is only for Lumia. As for Car Mode, I’m not an expert in this area and don’t know. Perhaps @Pino:disqus might be able to shed some light?

What’s the status of Nokia Care Mode for the N9?
The beta was already released for Symbian in Jan sometime IIRC.
It was promised several times for the 1st Gen Belle devices (700/701 etc) & the N9.

            Thank-you.

Just missed idols today, would be nice to watch from mobile. Also comedy series are always welcome. Frasier, Frends, Pulkkinen. Nature documents are nice. Science and education. Movies are a bit long for mobile, i rather would watch concerts, series, ducumentaries what you can watch example ten minutes and continue next time having extra time.

I can watch these programs with my iPad (and iPhone) already. With Lumia, there is no tv-app at all at the moment. I would also like to see metro style (official) Youtube app in WP7.5. All these are very basic apps that Lumia doesn’t have at the moment… oh, and internet sharing. Lumia is now in the same line where iPhone 3GS was two years ago. That’s the reason why i prefer iPhone. Although i really like Lumia’s desing and WP7.5 UI but i don’t want to loose all the great features that iPhone already offers and Lumia don’t have.

N9 actually has all those apps surprisingly enough.
Not bad for a platform that supposedly has no apps.
        And it does tethering/sharing….

WP7x does now too (albeit not as sophisticated as N9) depends on who your carrier is though.
Sometimes you may not get that update, as your carrier may not permit it etc.

Expand this service to Canada & other regions with the appropriate infrastructure, and it’ll seriously help put the Finnish phone maker on top world wide again!

Though do seriously consider Canada, the telecom provider Rogers already offers catch-up streaming, and so do the main channels — BUT not for WP.

Nokia should actively work to bring this service to such key markets, Nokia TV is the kind of thing that will really make Nokia a strong contender in North America :)

Lumia is doing great in term of the enhanced feature that could be a possible threat to the other smartphone sales. The Nokia TV could be a hit very soon in Finland and when released world wide it will go that extra mile.

Apr-4: “…in Finland in the coming weeks.”. 6 weeks ago, any estimates on when introduction will happen?

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Heidi Lemmetyinen

All I know at this stage is that it will be available on the Nokia Lumia 900, which starts selling on May 25th.

  • Sami Kosonen

Will it be available for Lumia 710 too? When I try to download it from the Marketplace, it complains that “This application is not available for your device. Press here for more info.” I’m from Finland, so region shouldn’t be an issue here.

Same problem with Lumia 800. Cannot install.

If Nokia TV comes together with the Nokia Lumia then it is surprising news for the Nokia user. Because they are getting very well service from it.

“then it is surprising news for the Nokia user.”

Not it’s not really, not at all… Reported.

That’s nice. So that Lumia Smartphone user can now watch the TV by using their Lumia which is great. It also allow to watch TV at anywhere.

    • jalyst

I want this Nokia Lumia TV! Where can I get this??

  • registradus

This would be great om Australia. All of our television stations have catch-up tv services, but none are available on Windows Phone.  Would be good to have the same service that is available on my Smart TV on my phone. In fact it would be amazing.
