Nokia at WIMA 2012: An exclusive video round-up

Published by Heidi Lemmetyinen on April 12, 2012

MONTE CARLO, Monaco – It’s fair to say that as an official sponsor, Nokia has had a big presence at this year’s WIMA event. Yesterday, we launched our first NFC-enabled Lumia phone, Nokia Lumia 610 NFC. And today Prince Albert of Monaco dropped by the Nokia stand to get a demonstration of NFC for himself.

Prince Albert

We’re not exactly sure what you can use NFC for if you’re a Prince, but there are bound to be lots of possibilities.  He looked pretty happy, so maybe he just likes a great phone.

Prince Albert talks to Nokia staff

On top of that, we’ve been showcasing our entire range of NFC-enabled smartphones (there are now a whopping eight of them!). We’ve also been demoing apps that make the most of this exciting technology.

Check out the video we made showing you what exactly has been going on at WIMA. It tells you what Nokia intends to do in the field of NFC and what kind of cool things you can now do with the technology.

That’s a nice endorsement by Prince of Monaco. Orange is an ugly color on a Nokia.

I am taste-free, it seems. I like the orange and was hoping I could get it for my vanilla Lumia…

i don’t understand…why a low cost phone has NFC, and our 800′s doesn’t-_-(900 as well?)

This is my personal opinion. For NFC to gain acceptance with travel companies, ticket agents, shopkeepers and the like, it needs to be on *millions* of phones. Therefore, putting it onto the high-end is less useful than putting it onto mass-market devices.

You should have bought a N9. There is NFC integrated.

now that nokia’s budget lumia 610 has an NFC variant, is it possible that we will see a NFC enabled lumia 900 and 800 as well. I guess that remains one of the biggest questions yet to be answered.
WP8 is slated to be released by Q3 this year with native support for NFC, does this mean that lumia 610 will be upgraded to WP8?

    Why all the excitement?

The Nokia N9 had integrated NFC already last year.
