Update your Nokia Lumia 900 now!

Important software update ready three days ahead of schedule

Published by Jeppe Christensen on April 14, 2012

Nokia Lumia 900 Black

SUNNYVALE, CA, United States- Earlier this week, we announced that we discovered a memory management issue with the recently launched Nokia Lumia 900 that could, in some cases, lead to loss of data connectivity.

We promised a software fix for April 16th but today, we’d like to share with you that the update is already available – three days ahead of schedule.

You can apply the update right now through Zune for Windows.

Do you have a Mac? Not a problem, just download Windows Phone 7 Connector.

Consumers are still able to switch out their Lumia 900 for an updated Lumia 900 in an AT&T store if they’d prefer. And, of course, the $100 credit offer will remain in effect through Midnight PST on April 21st.

Does the update also solve some of the related battery life issues?

Normally new smartphone needs half a dozen of so charge cycles before achieving optimum performance levels so it would take 4-5 days for battery to reach optimum performance

Maybe Nokia should write up a guide on how to calibrate your Lumia 900 battery. I think a lot of people would appreciate that ;)

    Nokia People,

Please, you should do something about this. I bought my Nokia Lumia
900 a couple of days ago and now see what AT&T has emailed me:

At AT&T we value your opinion and would like your feedback to improve our products to better meet your needs. By taking 8~10 minutes to complete an online survey, you have the opportunity to make your voice heard. We are specifically interested in talking to you about your new iPhone 4.

I would never ever by iCrap, and they’re sending me email to fill a survey on my experience with my new iCrap?!!

I proudly bought a Nokia Lumia 900 you morons!

Zune is not detecting an update for my phone, it shows the message “Your phone is up to date.  Current phone software version: 7.10 (8107).”  I am in Canada with a Lumia 900 from Rogers.

    • http://twitter.com/JeppeNokia Jeppe @ Nokia

Hi Jack. Yes, this update is only for AT&T. We’re still working on the update for Rogers. It should just be a few days.

Will this update fix the issue of “internet sharing”? Several of my friends bought the phone at full price from Rogers, and after SIM unlock are using on Fido/Bell network. Everything seems to be working, except when they try to enable “Internet Sharing”, the phone gives back an error. With a 3/6 GB data plan with Bell/Fido they’re able to tether using existing their phones. Please confirm if the “Internet sharing” lock on Rogers network shall be fixed/removed with this fix?

Concerning the update coming to Rogers, will it unlock the Internet Sharing feature?

I am asking for all the Canadian Nokia fans out there that are not on Rogers and bought the device, at full price and with an unlock code, because of the Hype and use it on Telus, Bell, etc…

According to them, all is working well except for the internet sharing option that is apparently ‘Locked’.

    Thanks in advance!

Any news on the update fix for the Canadian (Rogers) Lumia 900

I’m with Shoey. Please tell us when the Rogers update is coming. Not having data connectivity is really sucking.

    • Michael Gordon

I’m with you.  Rogers is very silent on this issue.  I’ve called numerous times, even about the rebate and they just keep transferring me around.  Enough is enough!

I guess the original April 16 release date only applied to the US version of the update as well (see my comment below).

I agree with many others that Nokia has done an awesome job handling this issue (please give Rogers Communications some customer service lessons!), at least from an American standpoint.  But…I find it infuriating how so many big companies (not just Nokia) treat their Canadian customers as an afterthought. First a lack of info on whether we would get the rebate, then the delay in the software update (and before that 30 mins of frustration trying to figure out why the update wouldn’t work for me on Friday, until I realized it must be for AT&T only).  Is the software on the Canadian Rogers version so different from the US version that it takes so much longer to roll out?  (Maybe it is, I dunno…)

Well, maybe I can’t blame Nokia…with the pathetic marketing job Rogers has done on the Lumia 900, there may be only a couple dozen of us canucks waiting out here in the cold for our update.

Hi,     I am vikas from Bangalore, karnatka, India, Brought a new Nokia Lumia 800 on 31st March 2012 worth rupees 24000,as soon as i opened the box i found that the charger is not working, very next days i found that when i hang a call it will never allow me to cut the phone it will take  around 40-50 second and phone will restart, and then it will show NOKIA on the screen and never start again i need to restart forcefully by holding the power button , anothe problem is with Sound, which is very less the person whom i talk he ll never listen the sound , Now can some FUCKER ass hole from this bloody company tell me for the new handset how come this much of problem can occur, and that too the phone for which they say best phone ever in the world , i can simply say that you bloody fool people making fool to the customer and cheating , i think this is the major reason why you have lost the market and Awesome SAMSUNG IS FUCKING this NOKIA like anything , since i hab been cheated in past from NOKIA, when my Xpress music phone got problem they refused to service saying that some part is missing in the phone however the phone was opened by those mother fucker people of NOKIA ,so can some ass hole take a serious action , i just simply want my money back nothing else you keep your phone with Bloody NOKIA,and if NOKIA will maintain the attitude of cheating people and playing with their emotion the the time is very soon when you will lose the entire market of Phone .

    Phone details
    Model -LUMIA 800
    IMEI no- 359289041498326

You should probably remove the sidebar graphic that claims these ‘conversations by Nokia’ are for the USA & Canada. Because it’s now four days after the update was released and still nothing from Rogers. Ridiculous.

    • Michael Gordon

And still nothing from Rogers.  So dissapointed.  Returning my device tomorrow.  Enough is enough.

      • http://theyshallnotpass.blogspot.com Jeff Robson

It’s a real joke. No one is taking ownership for the delay. Rogers technicians don’t seem to know the difference between Windows Phone 7.5 & Symbian, no one even wants to quote a firm date for the roll out (it was supposed to be today, but now it looks like Tuesday – yeah right), there’s no real communication from either party about when the $100 credit will appear, and Rogers is giving me a hard time about the fact that I don’t think it’s fair I pay the full price for my data plan this month since their complete incompetence means I haven’t actually been able to use it for two weeks.

I guess I’ll have to take it back, too. Sad. I wanted to like it. Back to the Samsung Focus for me, and perhaps my next phone won’t even be a Windows Phone now, which is even the bigger crime. It certainly won’t be a Nokia device.

  • Scott James

I’m in a 4G area in Victoria, and the phone (which is a beaut) shows 3G — except when I plug it in to charge, at which time it shows 4G, but only for a few seconds.  Would that be related to the data connectivity problem which is being addressed by the forthcoming update?

Also, and a bit off-topic:  is there any word on whether or not Canada is going to get the cyan model?

  • Anonymous

I downloaded the update to my Lumia 900 on AT&T.  I was not having the data connectivity problems before the update, but I am having them now.  Is there a way to roll back this update?

  • http://phonestabs.com/ Sumit

When is the update going to release for Lumia 900 on Rogers Canada?

At last the masses are seeing that there is an alternative! I cannot make the jump yet until I see a phone with a hardware keyboard but I am happy to see wp7 and Nokia hardware getting a lot of attention. Just hope the sales figures move up very fast and hopefully Nokia will produce something for myself.

Yes it does wonderful things and I love the phone and the Windows Phone software, in fact much more than my old iPhone.

BUT… it will not keep its LTE network connection.

I’m on my third phone, third SIM card, have verified firmware upgrades, spent many hours in my local AT&T store and on the phone with AT&T and Nokia customer support. Done all the usual testing stuff, know I’m in an LTE-enabled area etc. I can stand next to someone in the AT&T store showing a very good LTE connection on his Android device, and I’m showing 4G. And 4G speeds, not LTE.

    It does this:

1: Re-boot the phone. Great – the LTE connection shows up!
2: Wait 15 to 40 minutes… it drops down to 4G, and stays there, even after switching off and on the cellular connection to see if it will try to re-connect.
3: Go to step 1 and repeat ad infinitum.

Nokia – what’s going on?  I’m one of your biggest supporters but very disappointed with this network thing. I’m convinced it’s a software issue. I’ve been given so many different ‘explanations’ and plain untruths by various AT&T people I’m starting to lose confidence.

Are you working on a second firmware/software upgrade?

After reading the majority of these posts about this device, Nokia should have made T-Mobile the carrier for this fantastic device, AT&T is the worse Telecomm company in the world…the problems that the users are having would be minimal T-Mobile was the carrier. Maybe Nokia could like Samsung and contract out “ALL” the carriers to sell their subscribers and then Nokia monitor what carrier truly does have the better network for their devices…just a thought! Hope the Lumia 900 will be offered @ T-Mobile soon.
