Update for Nokia Lumia 900 on AT&T brings enhancements

Lumia 900

The Nokia Lumia 900 has been out for a few months now and has drawn raving reviews and positive feedback all around. As we’re committed to providing an amazing customer experience, today we are announcing a series of upgrades and enhancements for the Nokia Lumia 900 on AT&T’s network in the United States. These enhancements address some of the feedback that has been provided to us from Lumia 900 owners over the past couple of months.

First of all, we want to thank our customers who have given us feedback whether it has come through Twitter, Facebook or by leaving a comment here on Conversations. We’re listening and we’re here to make sure your experience as a Nokia customer is as enjoyable as possible.

With that, please update your Lumia 900 as soon as you can. To get the update, be sure to use Zune for Windows.

Are you a Mac user? Not a problem, just download Windows Phone 7 Connector.

This update brings the following enhancements:

▪ Removes purple hue which affected the screen of some devices in low light conditions

▪ Improved sensitivity for the proximity sensor

▪ Other minor adjustments and enhancements

This update is only for Nokia Lumia 900 on AT&T’s network in the United States. In addition to the enhancements mentioned, we’ll be rolling out new updates and surprises in the near future to all Lumia 900 users, so stay tuned!

    The left of the screen says Conversations by Nokia USA & Canada. Where’s the update for Canada? We have a purple screen as well. Also When are you guys going to put the Network Setup app back online!

    Hardware buttons don’t seem to have been fixed. The camera won’t launch and the volume won’t change when the screen is off.

  Right, and Apple and Android have amazing handset support? From the way Nokia’s handling updates, I’d be more inclined to ask why the other manufactures don’t follow Nokia’s lead…they’re defintiely showing Apple what customer service should be!

Does anyone else notice how loud the volume is? On level 1, the volume is still very loud. There is no concept of “low volume” on the Lumia 900. Will this issue ever get addressed?

I hope it corrects the bing search and voice command feature popping up for no reason. Also the back button freezing when this happens. Really don’t want to exchange my phone if I don’t have to.

  Yeah i thought my handset was the only one, sometimes the soft buttons freeze and they won’t work, as well as when u press the back button ONCE, it goes to multitasking view, this has happened even after i turn my phone off and back on again. Am I the only one here?

Nokia, you still haven’t addressed the camera at all? Do you know about the issues with the camera? I tell Damian once a week there’s an issue with how it adjusts to light that NONE of my Symbian phones (N8, N97, N95) had, which seems to me to be a Windows Phone software problem, and I hear nothing. I can send you countless images proving there’s an issue that I never had on my N8, since that’s my most widely used camera still. But the bottom line is that it does not know how to properly adjust to light and you can see it on the screen when you increase the pitch of the phone and what you see through the viewfinder gets really dark. That never happened on my N8 once.

Even better is when you have a large object in front of you (say a house and you can see the sky above the house) the entire house will be shaded dark, while it gets the sky correct. But if you take a photo using the touch screen and touch on the sky, it ruins the sky and shows the house close to what it should be. Meanwhile the N8 will get it right no matter what.

Stop messing with the identity of system hubs/icons. Further, if your intention is to make Nokia Maps default on Nokia Windows Phones, then provide an option to switch back to Bing Maps. Even better, just merge best features of Nokia and Bing Maps into a consolidated mapping solution for the benefit of all.

Will this fix the followig:
-Slow response to touch (my 900 has way slower response than my Focus did)
-Improve the camera
-Overly sensitive capacitive buttons
-Disappearing keyboard
-Adjust alarm volume (it stays at 30 no matter what)
-Volume control while phone is locked

???

These are just small annoyances (except maybe for the camera) that are most definitely not deal breakers for me.

I love my phone and really like the direction Nokia & MS are going.

And thanks for having such quick updates. It’s nice to not wait on ATT for this stuff!

Help! I updated my Lumia, then downloaded some Nokia Drive maps, then noticed my phone was acting slow so I turned it off. Now it won’t turn on! I submitted a request to Nokia customer service, but I won’t get a response until tomorrow.

Any help??

Okay, I’m a LOYAL NOKIA user. I currently own a Nokia Astound, carrier T-Mobile. I would like to know when will Nokia offer a Nokia Lumia model that will have an expansion slot for more memory? I have Zune player would LOVE to xfer ALL music to a new Windows/Nokia device and as a small business owner use my Windows device for my MS Office Apps/documents!?

I really wished Nokia had of initially created the LUMIA 710 w/a memory expansion slot, it is really hard to believe a smartphone these days being built w/o one…

  I love that Nokia has taken control over their device. And the seemless design is amazing. The less slots and additions to their device the less problems they have. This is why apple devices are so reliable. Maybe more memory options? A 32gb and a 16gb option? I vote to keep the device closed.

    Agreed davidw316! I think that will be better to just up the memory rather than doing slots. I do have a ZUNE player and would luv to be able to xfer all my music to a LUMIA Windows phn if Nokia designs one for T-Mobile subscribers w/the same amt of mem I have on my ZUNE 30. Plus, I contacted MS about what’s going on w/ZUNE Players, and ask if the ZUNE players were being phased out? Yes, MS is phasing out the Players, and focusing on Windows Phone devices…so MS is trying to compete w/Apple but slowly doing it! #I HATE APPLE

  Your opinion is subjective. From what I see, there’s not tonnes of bugs. However, Nokia is releasing timely updates to address certain things, like the purple hue on the screen, for example.

    What I want to say is this : there were more bug-fixing updates (including the notorious AT&T WiFi bug that determined Nokia to actualy give Lumia phones for free) for lumia phones with windows phone than the updates for MeeGo N9. Lumia phones does not have the first realease of WP, as N9 had the first realease of MeeGo, but still had more bug-fixing updates!!! What this means??? You don’t nead to be an engineer to see that even in the first release MeeGo/Harmattan was more stable/mature/bugs-free than windows phone!
    
    If Nokia would have put the same effort of releasing WP and implementing in WP all of Nokia services like Maps, but all this effort to Symbian and MeeGo, then Nokia would have been the king again!

        Nokia has never announced the sales figures for the N9 (we seldom do it for individual devices). The numbers you’re referring to are pure speculation, Also, the N9 has had normal marketing campaigns in the markets where it’s been available.

      Except that only a small portion of the devices had the issue for the bug fix. Nokia giving a 100 rebate was overkill imo. I have had a lumia 900 since April 9 and it has been rock solid. I have seen no reason for any updates whatsoever, but the updates come and they are timely. What more is there to ask for?

      Drop it. Meego is dead. Accept it and stop making excuses not to switch over to Windows Phone which is the future. The data problem was AT&T’s fault, not Microsoft’s or Windows Phone’s as an operating system, or Nokia’s. With less time in the market, Windows has three times as much Nokia Apps in Meego, and it is a much more modern and faster system. Other than AT&T’s data problem, there is no other problem with this phone to make it “buggy”.

loving my lumia 900 more and more everyday! I wish I could listen to my music from my zune w/o using my data! I pay for my zine on a monthly basis as well as my data on at&t I feel I’m being charge double!

I HOPE YOU READ THIS — FIX THE LOUDDD A$$ ALARM CLOCK… I have the softest of the Softest train songs, and its still REDICULOUS, i can have my phone on Vibrate, Or on “1 volume” doesn’t matter… alarm clock is loud.. Fix this issue, and this is my only complaint, i love this phone, i am sooooo glad i switched… So please make this one right. Ok?

Hey Nokia, just wanted to clarify earlier comments I made regarding the camera. The dynamic range was the term I was looking for to describe what really needs work. I don’t know if the small sensor is the issue there, which I highly doubt, but the performance is not even close to the N8. Damian and his team should look into this if they have time.

Also, some things I hope to see in the future….

1) Symbian’s Profiles brought over to Lumia’s.
2) Make use of the accelerometer for silencing calls and alarms.
3) Since there is no notification light like on my N8, I think you should make the windows button glow light the outlined home button on the N8 did when there’s a pending notification.
4) Select multiple in the gallery, and details view for photos.
