What do YOU do with your phone? [poll]

Last week we brought you a report from research company Nielsen. It showed that 96 per cent of Lumia 900 owners are extremely satisfied or somewhat satisfied with their new phone, and also some insight into how people use their Lumia 900.

Today, we want to know how you – our readers – use your Nokia Lumia. Not just the 900, but also the other members of the Lumia family.

In the poll directly below, please select each feature that you have used on your Nokia Lumia in the last month. There’s then one more question after that we’d like you to answer, too.

Now, in this section, please let us know how often you perform those tasks. Don’t forget to hit the button at the end to confirm your selection.

Thanks for taking the time to answer these, we’ll take a look at these next week and go through the results.

please bring indie language support to lumia

Not quite what this story is about, but thanks for sharing.

In other, I use to record music that I write. Would love an app for that or accessories to improve quality.

  • http://about.me/brandonmccall Mr. McCall

Please improve the camera in future WP devices. I can barely stand to use it.

You know, I used to think this but when I download the photos, they are actually pretty darn good. I think the disconnect with the image is when it’s viewed on the phone screen versus when it’s download/uploaded to the computer or even Facebook.

      • http://about.me/brandonmccall Mr. McCall

I’ll have to look into that. They always looked awful when viewing them on the device directly after I capture them.

  • Cyruss1989

There are no pre loaded games on Lumias.

    • http://conversations.nokia.com Ian Delaney

I think there are in some regions – but yeah, that’s likely to come last.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rasool-Shaik/1647860961 Rasool Shaik

transfer of files is not supported on lumia, no preloaded games, no sharing content via Bluetooth so this survey and poll is given wrongly. it should have been “what would you like to do with your phone”

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Adam Fraser

We didn’t specify how you would transfer the files. You could use Zune to do it, for example.

      • http://conversations.nokia.com Ian Delaney

        or email.

        • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Adam Fraser

          Another fine example.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rasool-Shaik/1647860961 Rasool Shaik

please dont talk the microsoft way. Email, zune are they real transfer medium.
Zune cant transfer word, pdf etc.
Email: Nothing can be downloaded through mail. When we attach something and try to download it it never does anything. please know the features before posting. I use Nokia from 10 years and i am familiar with each and every feature of every nokia device. i currently own  Lumia 800. I am big fan of nokia and Microsoft. Both are very close to me. But as far as present Lumias are conecerned i hate you both.

  • csnazell

There’s something screwy with the camera / camera firmware on my Lumia 800. Outdoor shots are always too dark unless stopped up by half a point.

Sure I can wash the image through software on the phone or on my computer when I sync images back from the device, but the fact I have to do so indicates that there’s something wrong with the camera subsystem.

I never had to do this on my iPhone or my HD7.

So please put a better sensor / firmware setup in the Mk II Lumias.

  • Amit kumar

Please include transfer of files via bluetooth & also ability to attach multiple documents in email… Microsoft has showed that it still a ****** dumb when it comes to attach multiple attachments(docs). even 2008 Symbian models had this feature

  • ridolfo2010

Funny how “making calls” is not in the list… ;)

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Adam Fraser

Neither is sending an SMS. We figured people will always use those features, it’s basic stuff. This is for more top-end stuff.

      • ridolfo2010

        Fair enough.

  • FE7MIN

and i don’t want to see the att logo on the from. pls

  • irfanullahjan

This is a bit off topic. Will WP8 support Bluetooth file transfer?

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Adam Fraser

You’re right, this is off topic. We’ll bring you more details when we have it.

      • Sol De Jesus

From a Symbian user perspective, it would be nice to have bt file transfer as a feature for windows 8 phones of Nokia. Thanks!

    • Mohib Sheth

Though no official confirmation but I would believe yes it will. Nokia already had said before about an app for Bluetooth file transfer. And with native support in WP8, this should be a no brainer.

  • Steve Kellogg

I have nothing to add to the actual survey other than to tell you that when my current 2 years is up (WP7.5 Samsung Focus), I will absolutely be switching to a Nokia phone. I am currently with AT&T, would prefer Verizon, but will stay or move to whatever carrier I have to in order to move to a Nokia phone. I am hoping to be switching over right around the time WP8 comes out with what I am hoping and anticipate will be a shiny new Nokia model.

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Adam Fraser

Glad to have you on board, Steve. You’re making the right choice.

I would love to switch to another Nokia Phone, same as cool as e51/e71 was. I love to have hardware keyboard (unfortunetly there aren’t good offers of WPs, HTC has poor hardware and Dell is declined due to its bad quality). Why I cannot have another Nokia Phone, with Windows OS, hardware keyboard, and all features from e51/e71 and quality of Lumia 900?

  • chris_t610

Just a thought; my previous Nokia phones are musically talented like that of my N8 as well as my Business class E72 — these phones have exceptional sound quality that lets you enjoy your tunes brilliantly.

Now, is there a way that Nokia could perhaps add an equalizer setting to my Lumia 800? Frankly, I miss this feature from my other Nokia devices and maybe (just maybe) this could add a more personalized setting for my Lumia’s music collection?

My Lumia sounds a bit bland on the music department :-/

    • Mohib Sheth

Thats actually one of the biggest grudges I have had with Windows Phone. Plus lack of MKV files.

Potential understatements of the survey for this Lumia 900 user:

    * I would “transfer” files to my phone, but I can’t
    * I would edit video, but I can’t
    * I don’t “set up” email or photo/music albums because I did all of that on Day #1.

That’s exactly what in my mind

         Same here…

Interesting how there’s a category called “4G LTE to connect to the Internet”, as my Lumia 900 doesn’t even have a LTE radio..so was this survey directed only at AT&T users in the US?

Another interesting category for the poll might be VoIP calls, how much do people use Lumias for that? Integration of Skype would of course help (but do we ever get this in WP7.8??), right now it’s fairly useless as staying online all the time is rather difficult…

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Adam Fraser

No, but we also have US Lumia owners reading this blog, too. So, we’re trying to cover a range of people.

  • Angelo Mattos

I’d like to listen to music more times in music player, but the player’s quality is very poor. For this reason, I prefer to listen to my favorite musics in a simple MP3 Player than in my Lumia 710.

I’ve used my N L 900 for ~3-4 months, strictly as a business tool – Daily exchange based e-mail, contacts (~4,000 in my main data base), maps, phone calls, internet (mainly NY Tiimes), & occasional note-pad.
    PROBLEMS:
       - Screen display for internet is unstable – Rotates almost at random)
       – Screen can not be ‘locked on’ when displaying map while driving, that is, it dims & goes to sleep frequently; Problem with favorite google maps, default windows maps, nokia drive)
       – Nokia drive display will not lock to ‘North on top’, but instead rotates with direction of car.
       – Office docs (& ~.pdf reader) display orientation is always unstable, like internet / NY Times problem mentioned above); FURTHER:
       – display magnification seems to randomly change.
    BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT:
       – Need USB bulk file transfer to/from the 8 Gig of memory WITH FULL SUPPORT FOR MY DIRECTORY / SUBDIRECTORY STRUCTURE to access files for occasional viewing, & most esp. to back up desktop / notebook for access when traveling (weekly)

VARIOUS OTHER USABILITY DIFFICULITIES, which are less bothersome . . .

Feel free to contact me privately if more detail  needed.

Good survey. I was a little unclear about what it meant to “set up a photo library.” I marked quite a few of those features as less than once a month but that doesn’t mean they aren’t important. I don’t change my home screen often because I have it just how I like it. I would only change it if I found a new app I used frequently.

Love my Lumia 900. Somewhat disappointed to learn that I will need a new phone for WP8. Hope to see some nice WP8 phones from Nokia. Would also love to see a “Lumia Tablet” for W8 to go along with the new phone.
    Things I would change:
When playing music and the phone is plugged into to external power, why not have the option to keep the screen on continuously.

Probably a WP7.5 issue but all my tiles that used to update info regularly (except email, Messages, and Phone) have ceased updating. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling no joy. Apps like WP Central, Engadget, any of the weather apps I have, etc. Hate to have to do a hard reset since I have over 320 apps that I would have to reinstall.

Would love the option to have the 3 hardware buttons below the screen light up whenever I touch the screen or have the screen on, going dark only after I shut it off and put it in the phone holster.

The only thing that would keep me from buying a Surface tablet is if Nokia were to announce an offering of their own.

And Nokia. I’m a huge fan. I have the Lumia 800, which I like better than the 900 because of the curved glass and easier to use with one hand design, but you need to knock this next phone with WP8 out of the park. Include NFC, Snapdragon S4, 2500mah battery and an HD screen (preferably SLCD2). Go Nokia!

I have always had a nokia and i find them better than any other phone, but I was given an itouch( I refuse to buy anything Apple) and i can use great apps and watch BBC News on its app as well as BBCiPlayer ad other TV channels. I have now got a Lumia710. Its a great phone. Got the Apps i need but i cannot watch BBCiPlayer. I would like to use my phone to stream TV show anywhere, esp at the gym. it is pojntless in me having a devise that wont do that and am affiard i will stick with an old phone and the iTouch until nokia can show TV shows on their phone

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Adam Fraser

It’s true that the BBC iPlayer isn’t available on Lumia. It’s something I’d like too, but the BBC just haven’t made it.

I know it’s not quite the same, but have you tried Netflix? You can watch films and TV series right on your phone. Plus, if you watch something half way through on the phone, you can pick it up again at the exact same point on a computer of compatible console. It’s actually really good.

I chose my Nokia Lumia 900 over my iPhone 4 as my primary phone due to its nice design, simple operating system interface and fast tile navigation.  There’s just something more calming about swiping through Windows Phone tiles opposed to iPhone ones.  I find that I would use my camera more if I was able to take better pictures and video with it.  Honestly, the auto setting in the camera leaves much to be desired.  Images seem over saturated, whereas the iPhone’s seem more natural, especially in lower light situations.  Maybe bump up the ISO a bit on the auto settings and open up the aperture a bit to improve speed of capture. I’ll accept a little bit of noise as a result.  Also, that purple hue that appears when taking pictures with predominantly white color is unacceptable. =(  Hoping for a higher resolution display and some Pureview 808 love in the next iteration.  Go, Nokia! Hoping to also see some biosensors from you guys in the near future. I’m sick of dealing with patient’s telemetry leads in the hospital.
