US and Canada: Update ready for Nokia Lumia 900

Published by Jason Harris on August 15, 2012

The Nokia Lumia 900 has been turning heads since it appeared on store shelves in May. As part of our ongoing commitment to our Lumia owners, today we’ve announced the availability of a software update that brings numerous enhancements to the Nokia Lumia 900 in the United States and Canada.

Many of the enhancements released today are a result of feedback we’ve received on TwitterFacebook or by leaving comments here on Conversations.

Thanks to those who have given us feedback on the Lumia 900 experience.

As soon as you have the opportunity, be sure to update your Lumia 900. To get the update, you can use Zune for Windows:

If you’re a Mac owner, you can use Windows Phone 7 connector to update your device.

Please note: For this particular update, there will be three updates to install and the entire process will take up to 30 minutes to complete.

You’ll see the following messages on your phone:  “Success! Your phone has been updated” followed by a message “An update is available…”.

There is no need to tap “close” or “ok.” The phone will continue to the next update automatically. This will happen three times before you should disconnect your phone.

For US Lumia 900 customers

This update brings the following enhancements for US Lumia 900 owners:

  • Flip-to-silence feature
  • Camera performance enhancements
  • Battery performance enhancements
  • Startup sequence performance enhancements

Most Nokia Lumia 900 owners will appreciate the Flip-to-silence feature, which mutes your ringer if you turn the phone over. This will come in real handy if you’re in a meeting or with a close friend and you wish to not be interrupted.

Also, the enhancements will allow users to more reliably be able to open the camera when the phone is locked using the dedicated camera button.

For Canadian Lumia 900 customers

This update brings the following updates to your Lumia 900:

  • Flip-to-silence feature
  • Support for Contacts Share app, to send and receive business cards as text messages
  • Proximity sensor performance enhancements
  • Removes purple hue which affected some phones in low-light conditions
  • Startup sequence performance enhancements
  • Camera performance enhancements

The updates mentioned are available beginning today for Nokia Lumia 900s in the United States and Canada. We’ll be rolling out more updates in the future so stay tuned!

We appreciate your feedback and are listening.

After the update I was unable to use Internet Sharing on my Rogers Lumia 900. It said how it couldn’t detect a cellular data connection even though it’s on under my Cellular settings. Had to go back to the previous software version.

It seems like with this update we lost the option to Accept/Maybe/Decline invites we receive in the Calendar. What’s up with that??? When I go to the Respond option I only see Reply, Reply All, and Forward, which open an email message.

I can’t seem to get the update. Mine says that I have the most up to date firmware with 8773 (Rogers). Anyone else having this problem?

I am unable to download this update. I connect my phone, Zune fires up, it recognizes the update is available, but then it just sits at 0%. For HOURS. I have tried three different computers. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Zune. I have done a factory rest on the phone–TWICE. I am using the cable that came with it (and I’ve tried 3 others), i’m not using any extensions, and I am plugging it directly into the USB port–not an external hub. I’ve tried like 15 times now, with the same result each time on all three PCs–always recognizes the download, but when it starts the update, it just sits at 0%.

I’m really frustrated. If I went to a local ATT store, would they be able to get the update on my phone for me? Any advice would be appreciated. Just keep in mind that i’ve already gone through the troubleshooting steps listed above MULTIPLE times.
