Nokia Conversations: now with added Connects

Published by Heidi Lemmetyinen on August 21, 2012

welcome to the connects team

Welcome to the latest version of Nokia Conversations.

With this new release, we welcome our colleagues from the Nokia Connects blog, bringing the two sites, Connects and Conversations, together as one.

Nokia Conversations is the company’s official blog, and is one of the largest corporate blogs in the world. Working across six languages, we receive around one million visitors a month.

From the point of view of readers, we know that having lots of different Nokia blogs isn’t ideal. Earlier this year, we integrated posts from the Location team here on Conversations, instead of Nokia having a separate Maps blog.

Now, the Connects team join us too, to create a bigger, more inclusive site than ever before.

So that means there’s now just one destination for all the latest from Nokia. It means this site will be livelier and more packed with content. And also that you’re not reading the same news twice, if you follow both sites.

The blog is split into three main sections:

  • News – the latest announcements and happenings at Nokia
  • Features – deeper dives into products and the people behind them
  • Connects – The wider world of Nokia, the community around it and the content you used to read at Nokiaconnects.com

There’s also a whole section devoted to Location, of course.

Lastly, we’d like to welcome the new writers from the Connects team: Joel, Paul and Tom. We look forward to reading their posts and to a richer, more varied mix on the site.

Hi – Good luck with the integration, both from the technical standpoint (I’m a Web guy and I know how that can be) but also from a communications standpoint, and I think this is the most important, as I have felt a disconnect with Nokia over the last year with Nokia Connects.

I was a huge fan of WOMWorld/Nokia and the work that team did.  When they became Nokia Connects, I thought it was a nice choice of name as that was what they were doing – connecting with raving Nokia fans like myself as well as a broader audience.  However, when the NC site started integrating other content that was really not related to even mobile in some cases, I wondered why and to be honest, I unsubscribed and didn’t feel I was missing anything.  Though I did feel disconnected as it seemed I was dropped from trialing devices, which is something I enjoyed.

So I am happy to see this move, and I look forward to a greater connection with not only my favorite mobile devices but the community that is a key part of its ecosystem!

With the Downgrade it’s time for Nokia to reduce the Lumia cost to $9.99, sell non-Core Assets, and expedite Windows 8 Smartphone Upgrade — OR Declare Bankruptcy!! — Aug. 15: Rating agency Standard and Poor’s downgrades Nokia Corp.’s long-term corporate credit rating further into junk status amid concerns over the cellphone company’s deteriorating profitability.

Great initiative guys, consolidation is WAY overdue but at least it’s finally moving in that direction now.
We look forward to seeing lots more Maemo/MeeGo/N9xx content, tucked amongst the WP/S40 stuff.

    Great idea ,well done

All in one place is a great idea and also new site layout looks simpler and easy to use than previous one….Looking forward to see more Nokia related core content dedicated to all Nokia platforms this time in Nokia community.

I always thought that NC and Conversations should be under the same roof and now ut happened. I did feel like NC lost some of it’s personality since the last website redesign but I think it was the big transition they were going trough at the time. I have to say that Conversations has evolved immensely in the last months and I like it more and more everyday.
The guys from NC will only add more value to an already amazing blog.
Great job guys! Keep at it.

P.S. I do have two complaints though: no more FB login for comments and the mobile website does not show the 4 main categories

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Heidi Lemmetyinen

Thanks for the feedback and for flagging up the FB login issue – we’ll look into it!

On the FB login for comments: we had to remove it because the code seemed to conflict with the share buttons. We’re looking into switching to the new version of Disqus soon, which I hope will make it possible to bring it back.
