Nokia Lumia 920 – kicking with WP8

Published by Tom Hall on September 5, 2012

If you watched the webcast yesterday you’ll know that the Nokia Lumia 920 (along with the Nokia Lumia 820) were announced in New York – watch the webcast again if you missed it, or read Mike Macias’s excellent live blog of the event – and the reactions have been flooding in thick and fast.

The Nokia Lumia 920 with PureView technology brings a host of technology firsts as Ian wrote about, but here at Connects we’re all about what you guys think of the phones. So we had a look as soon as the announcement was over and here’s some of the very first responses:

Alvin Wong shared the specs and the new colours (red, yellow, white, grey and black, in case you were wondering), while Aliqudsi has posted this hands on video (the first ever with the Nokia Lumia 920!) Check out those colour-matching accessories.

The Windows Team’s Ben Rudolph has posted some photos and video of the Nokia Lumia 920 (as well as some of the Nokia Lumia 820 – more of that later) – and says that he’s

‘…seriously impressed with the new Lumias, both inside and out’

There’s more, with praise for the ‘evolution of the iconic design’ and the new technologies. The post is well worth a read.

…and after the announcement, PhoneDog Taylor got a hands on demo:

So what do you think of the Nokia Lumia 920? Excited about the PureView technology and Optical Image Stabilization? How about the PureMotion HD+ display? Let us know in the comments, or shout out on Twitter.

it seems to be a great phone, as a n8 owner i’m thinking of buying 920 as the next cellphone, but it doesn’t have any “out” connection for the tv, does it have dlna? widi?

No waterproof, No shockproof, No radio, No dolby sound, No beats audio, No audio chip = No kia.

    • Debase

want some cheese with that wine, its a phone not a home theater system, personally audio quality is the last thing i look for when buying a phone. Waterproof, shockproof? I’m surprised you didn’t complain that it lacks a kitchen sink, to me you’re complaining to complain.

I sure hope theres a pentaband version like the 710, N8, or N9. Didn’t even remotely consider the 900 thanks to hardware radio enforced carrier lock-in.

  • bugs

I buy IF we can switch it with my 2-month old lumia 900

    Cyan?

  • Marcus Lillemägi

Totally agree on the “where is the Cyan 920″-part! Come on just mix up that color and add that shit to the excisting ones!

why no microsd expansion on flagship? that’s unforgivable considering that wp8 now allows for storage expansion.
yellow plastic looks tacky, NOKIA logo has got to be in the CENTER, not off to the right.
love the screen, love the hardware spec (except no mSD OMG i still cant get over that)
optical stabiliser is definitely how Nokia innovates and differentiates! figuring how to package it in a smartphone is just.. awesome.
now i say pay nokia to innovate, pay apple to sponsor their legal fees. BUT OMFG nokia flagship wp8 with no mSD, yes i am not getting over it.

I’m with you about the mSD expansion. It’s the only thing that really gives me pause about getting this. I could just wait for the 2nd wave and hope they decide to let us expand the memory.

I love my lumia 900, but it’s heavy to hold for extended reading.
And now the 920 is even heavier!

    • mcjw

clueless Nokia. Heavier phones mean more damage from a drop. The excessive weight betrays Nokia’s incompetence in mechanical design and component procurement clout.

      • http://www.facebook.com/steven.irvin.714 Steven Irvin

A more solid weight means feels BETTER in the hand. DON”T DROP IT! no brainer.

    Cyan?

How can you drop Cyan just like that??? Yellow? Really?? I remember reading something on Nokia Conversations about much research done to get the right color that most people would like – what happened to that?

  • hoglyoil

hope you’ll sell the Lumia 920 LTE in Italy too!!!!!Not only the hsdpa+ variant

  • Tony Kent

As I tweeted yesterday I went to the Nokia Store in Helsinki whilst on a cruise and saw the 920 under glass! Currently use and enjoy my Lumia 800 – very much like the larger screen and updated interface of wp8. I volunteered to be a tester some weeks ago but have not heard anything – though I am a Lawyer by profession have tested software and hardware for some time.

  • umair khan

Please launch this phone on T mobile and bring the blue matte finish back. I will buy it only if its on T mobile.

    • umair khan

I meant Cyan matte Finish one.

  • dtstrickland

Absolutely beautiful device, can’t wait to get my hands on it. I would love to see it in Cyan, but I’m completely digging that red color.

    Cheers

  • jimboireland

This is a gamechanger ,l love it.

  • Chad Watts

After they abandoned their loyal costumers who got Lumia 800 and 900 by NEVER giving us offline maps, trying to force us to buy these new phones, my impressions are:

Do not buy this phone. Nokia will find a way to disappoint and betray you. They think we are morons.

    • http://www.facebook.com/steven.irvin.714 Steven Irvin

Look at them now, silly. bet you wish you’d gotten one. Offline maps all over the world, son.

  • DEMARCO

    LOVE IT LOVE IT
