Great times ahead for all Nokia Lumia smartphones

Published by Boc Ly on September 11, 2012

Lumia 800

After introducing the first smartphones in the Nokia Lumia family to be built on Windows Phone 8, there is one message that needs to be made loud and clear: existing Lumia owners also have plenty to look forward to and are definitely not being left behind.

The current Lumia range of smartphones will continue to be supported by Nokia with a new updated user interface, new features, apps and upgrades.

In short, there is everything that you currently love about your Lumia, plus new developments coming in the future to help ensure that your Lumia experience will remain the envy of your friends!

Support from day one

Lumia 900

Ever since the Lumia handsets were first launched, Nokia has delivered a series of updates that have improved the battery performance and introduced exciting new features.

Recently, we have brought Internet sharing, Flip-to-Silence and Camera Extras to the whole Lumia range.

There have also been new apps such as Contact Share and PlayTo and updates to Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, Nokia Transport and Nokia Music.

In the pipeline

Brand new, compelling updates are in the pipeline. Nokia City Lens, launched just last week to make exploring surroundings more intuitive, is already available in the Windows Phone Marketplace for Lumia 710, Lumia 800 and Lumia 900, as is Nokia Counters, to help you keep an eye on your phone usage.

We will also bring Cinemagraph and updates to Smart Group Shot to the existing Lumia devices with some additional surprises to make photo shooting and sharing as easy as possible. Additional new features for all Lumia devices will include:

  • A new Start screen look and feel, familiar from Windows Phone 8, giving you a whole new look the moment you unlock your phone
  • Ringtone maker app to selected markets to create a personal ringtone
  • Contact share app updated to support sharing over Bluetooth in addition to SMS and email
  • Bluetooth file transfer to send media files via Bluetooth from your Lumia device to any other phone

The rollout of these updates for the Lumia 610, Lumia 710, Lumia 800 and Lumia 900 smartphones will be phased, and we will share more details closer to the start of delivery.

New and exclusive apps continue to be launched in the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Coming up, there is Zynga’s smash hit games Draw Something and Words with Friends, new apps from Bloomberg, WhatsApp, Groupon and a whole lot more.

NOKIA .. YOU AGAIN HAVE MADE ME PROUD AND STAND TALL.. !!! THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT (i initially lost trust in you when i came to know that devices are not upgradable to wp8..) but thanks for being a true company again…
I purchased my L800 while I could’ve easily switched to Samsung galaxy SII, but due to my trust I held on to you.

Finally my trust and patience in you have paid…!!!!
    Thank you so much..

And APLOGIES from my side for even thinking of switching.. I
    I AM SORRY
(A Post from a your loyal fan)

        hehe right :)

      • Gunther Ham

Hi Adam. Please tell me when and how I can get the bluetooth file transfer going on my wife’s Lumia 710 that I just bought her today. It’s very dissapointing that it is not a naturally built in feature.

I want to make one thing clear that the only difference between windows 7.8 and windows 8 is the hardware support for hardwares like NFC,SD card ,upto 64 core processors, etc and other all software supports will be the same as windows 8 in windows 7.8 so don’t worry guys…:):):):)by the wat can your phone do with those hardware supports in windows 8 wen your phone does not have those hardwares…think guys…

      • http://www.facebook.com/RoddLever Rodd Lever

Where did you get that from. The 7.8 update is no more than window dressing for wp7 phone or they would call it wp8 or wp8 lite. Plus we would also get full access to all the wp8 apps. Trust you, your having a laugh you tit

  • http://www.facebook.com/i.ashu AShu Sharma

Your support makes me feel I’ve purchased an Nokia Phone.. Not a Windows Phone.. Thanks again.. sniff.. :’)

      • Nigam

        Dear sir, Can i exchange my L-800 to L-820 or L-920? I don’t like my L-800.

  • http://twitter.com/vedhaspatkar Vedhas Patkar

The only question is whether it’s a part of the WP7.8 update or a totally new one?

  • http://www.gadgeterija.net/ Denis Jelec

Absolutely fantastic! Keep up the good work!

  • http://www.facebook.com/cristi.trohin Cristian Trohin

You guys are amazing! I’m sure MS didn’t plan to include any of these updates in WP7.8 but Nokia and the Nokia user community have spoken, and it’s hard to not hear us all! If we’ll also get IE10 and Office ’13 as updates, our Lumia will be complete. Oh, and I hope the official Instagram app will support Wp7.8.
Oh, and great seeing FB login support on the blog :D

    • http://www.facebook.com/gxsaurav Saurav Srivastava

IE 10 cannot be given as it is an OS level change which Nokia cannot do.

Office 2013 is property of Microsoft an without permission from them, it cannot be given.

Great. Still missing the video upload (to skydrive or youtube) but still a good start…

    • http://twitter.com/kps91 Kunwar Preet Singh

you can upload video via the official skydrive app i suppose but i’m not sure give it a try :)

      • http://twitter.com/metallifanca Arnaud Daenen

        no, i already gave that a try…

You can upload videos to SkyDrive right away using “Share” option. YouTube is missing, and that’s probably not going to change… But who knows.

      • http://twitter.com/metallifanca Arnaud Daenen

Thanks, I had to look after that function but i found it. Not in the Zune/Video section, i need to go through the camera app. Not easy to find :)

  • Nokia_Fanboy

    Dear Nokia

    1.Start making cameras
    2. N-gage branded gaming mobile using Tegra 4 SOC just think Nokia-Nvidia-Ngage cool right (Tegra zone will great for gaming eco-system) Leave the game development to nvidia
    3. Mainstream Tablet 7” with W-RT.
4.Bring a revolutionary App that signifies and characterize WP8
    not available to others
Remember Samsung may be #1 @ selling but Nokia is still #1 in peoples heart.

    • http://suomiwp.com/ Jesse Leskinen

      1. Very, very unlikely, much competition.
      2. N-Gage is long dead, they have Xbox Live as an replacement. WP does not support Tegra, only Snapdragon.
      3. Maybe though I think x86 and bigger screen is their choice
      4. It needs to be more than just an app… They have exclusive apps already.

      • http://twitter.com/iMrYllEst Rolly Estabillo, RN

Nokia N-Box Would be cool. hahaha. Besides Nokia is making strides in the window’s phone platform if they can continue to innovate on the ecosystem and give a a Nice looking Nokia Tablet in windows 8, I’d be a sell…

    • Sam

I have heard rumors about a powerful Nokia gaming device with x86 based architecture and strong GPU is in the pipelines. Hope this is true. There is when exclusivity of Microsoft with Nokia will come into play.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rasool-Shaik/1647860961 Rasool Shaik

this should have been declared on the day during windows phone summit.Nokia would have sold more millions of Nokia Lumia devices. its really a poor strategy. But anyhow i am really happy with Nokia but not with Microsoft.

    • http://twitter.com/Kickingseven Kickingseven

They actually did say they would continue to support the current lumia…apparently you didn’t listen

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rasool-Shaik/1647860961 Rasool Shaik

That’s what i call poor strategy by just saying they will support. I think Mr. Elop sir has very bad team. The team didnt listen to consumers at the most crucial time for nokia instead if they would have said that these are the features that current lumia handsets will get then that would have raised the profits of nokia and also helped it to raise its market share. I don’t know how much you care for Nokia but i love nokia and want it to always to be at the top of the Mobile world. I love nokia from my heart. if it looses then my heart breaks. I just wish at sometime i will work for Nokia.

        • http://twitter.com/Kickingseven Kickingseven

They also said what they were going to do and shared some of the details of what features were going to be released and now they are sharing some more. I don’t see the problem especially since the features they said were coming the first time around were released like they said they were going to do…now there are more features and awesome.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rasool-Shaik/1647860961 Rasool Shaik

bro we are in love with Nokia so instead of fighting for past lets wish a bright future for Nokia. I am looking for Nokia Lumia 920 now. I don’t know when they will release it in India. I waited for 900 for long and they released it now which is of no use to me now. i just wish at-least they release it quick this time. No one in the world has patience in this world. they wait for long but not toooo long and switch to others. But i have to wait as i am not interested in any other mobile than Nokia.

        • vignesh

man even my dream is to work in research lab of Nokia its just awesome see the videos in youtube

    • http://www.facebook.com/RoddLever Rodd Lever

Microsoft killed wp7 not Nokia but Nokia still sold lumia’s knowing there was no windows phone 8 update and not informing us , so we could have a choice of buy a lumia with wp7.5 now or wait till wp8 phones less than a year between them. I’ve lost faith in Nokia and microsoft. Wouldn’t invest in either for a long time :-( :-( :-(

I don’t feel like celebrating. Bluetooth file transfer is long overdue. This is something that should have been in Lumias on day one, like it was in all earlier Nokia smartphones. Still, better late than never, I guess.

Very nice phone and of course it can get better…work on the dial screen…when a user types the first few numbers of the contact the contacts related to the numbers typed need to show up on the CALL screen…The contact transfer through sms and mail isn’t working….how do I take the screen shot…edit photos as soon as I take them? Please upgrade your market place..make your batteries & processors even powerful(Maybe we don’t need them technically but we certainly want them psychologically, and every purchase is emotional (Psychological)) …and talk more about apps like Nokia city lens…The amazing Nokia drive…and pick out the small yet powerful features and highlight them in your advertisements in India….I don’t know why but I really want Nokia make a come back…Thanks…

This is all well and good. I’m a loyal Nokia user for 20 years. Now I have the Lumia 900 from AT&T. My question for Nokia USA is, will there be a program (re: price break) for current Lumia 900 users who took out a new 2-year contract with AT&T in April when it went on sale, to upgrade to Lumia 920? As of now there is a $250 “early upgrade” penalty from AT&T if I were to do that.

    • GrayWolf

It’s interesting how your question has not been answered after 2 months’ time. Silence, in this case, equates to a “probably not” in my book. That’s a sad and unfortunate thing.

bunch of liars, those phones are still not getting windows phone 8
therefore future apps wont work on them

Those apps are for 7.8 so ya they’ll work!

      • xoj_21

catch word is future wp7 is end of life.

apps made for wp8 wont work on 7.8

        • hansu_sthlm

Newsflash they work or will work om 7.8 , read the article,

          • xoj_21

            these apps, not future apps.

          • hansu_sthlm

That might be true , I’ll get a wp8 phone anyways,

        • http://twitter.com/PeterMitri Peter Mitri

Developers choose whether they make wp7 or wp8 apps. Seeing that apps made for wp7 will run on wp8 without additional effort, I don’t see why they would go with wp8 exclusive apps. I myself am a developer. Plus the installed user base is wp7, so the wp8 market won’t take off for a few months. The only apps that won’t run on wp7 are big ass games that require native coding.

          • xoj_21

why to program for a platform with less 10m users?

when the new api is more powerful and have less restrictions?

          • stevebarker66

Because it’s easier to get your app noticed on a smaller market than have it lost within half a million fart & web apps on other app stores, for one.

The WP8 API’s may well offer more scope to do cool stuff, but there is no addressable market yet – why develop to zero market share when you can develop for 10 million users?

WP8 apps will build over time, but ts early days yet and plenty an be done with WP7 apps till then.

There are some great success stories featuring WP app devs – go check it out.

You seem to be a bit of a WP hater, which is fine by me, but please base your opinions on logic and fact rather than emotion if you want to be taken at all seriously.

          • xoj_21

find me a 5-10m download app no windows phone.?

          • http://www.facebook.com/chiranjib.jena Chiranjeeb Jena

at least WP7 hv some user base… but what’s the user base of WP8…big ZERO. I think Developers make apps to earn.

          • xoj_21

windows phone 7 is END OF LIFE.

thats why, and most of the sales are shipment not sold to consumer so base it way smaller.

windows phone 8 api is less restrictive it will easier to do ports. thats why

most of the apps windows phone 8 is gotta get will be due it desktop maybe tablets.

actually every single game will be made in wp8 to take advance c,c++ an directx

That’s why I love my Nokia. Last night I plugged in my 2 years old dumbphone Nokia 2700c to retrieve texts & contacts and I found there was an update available, I was pretty amazed & updated my phone. After update it became a bit more fluid in functionality and brought regional language support. Nokia are always there even for the consumers who own a 50$ dumbphone, so many unsung stories of them hover around.

As an older person, I don’t really care about new features, the one thing I would love Nokia to do would be to allow an increase in font size for contacts and messaging. I was dismayed that this was a problem on a Nokia phone as I have always bought Nokia and been happy with the accessibility options provided :(

Stupid Microsoft. Last time they did the same with WindowsPhone 7… they didn’t even let me update my WindowsMobile 6 to WindowsMobile 6.5. Now this! Nokia knew this is going to happen… but they kept quiet; they should have told users of this before selling their phones.

@Nokia, no small update is going to compensate this… will I be able to run WP 8 apps? if not, Shut up!

    • Unknown

Let’s face it, wp7 has always been a “transition OS” for microsoft to stay in the smartphone market. WP8 is a totally different beast running on the NT kernel.
On your rant about windows mobile, it was the OEMs that decided whether your OS gets an upgrade or not.
You bought your phone knowing what it can do at that time, not what it can do in the future. Stop complaining.

      • Guest

Hi Unknown, I guess it was quite clever strategy from both Nokia and Microsoft not to enlighten buyers of Lumia 900 about all these facts about OS, NT kernel blah blah and that WP8 would not come to those phones. They thought customers would buy these phones with an expectation that these basic OS with minimal features would get a proper update like most android or iPhones did. If they let the customers know the fact, they wouldn’t buy it. Very clever strategy indeed!

    Hi
I have a Nokia Lumia 900 and there are a few things that I REALLY miss……….
Like a “normal” Blue tooth so you can send pictures, movies and music to friends (with any phone brand).
The FM-transmitter I miss like crazy!!!
Why can’t you screen save? (even iphone can do that!!!)
And I would really like to know why you can’t turn of all of your app’s with one click, like on for instance Nokia N8? WHY?
And why can’t you turn of the music player at all when you used it? It’s a little inconvenient to have to restart your phone!

    Anny thoughts……..

screenshot support is coming to windows 7.8 and I want to make one thing clear that the only difference between windows 7.8 and windows 8 is the hardware support for hardwares like NFC,SD card ,upto 64 core processors, etc and other all software supports will be the same as windows 8 in windows 7.8 so don’t worry guys…:):):):)

I guess its a step in the right direction but I’ve got a £70/€100 heart rate monitor thats been stood idle for the last year because the bluetooth profiles don’t support it. For me thats a stupid and backwards oversight by MS and Nokia. Will this update fix that problem? If not no more loyalty to Nokia!

i’m guessing you bought one that’s designed for iOS or some other mobile device… in which case, your bad for not reading the compatibility before purchasing.

How about Dolby Digital Music Experience for The Lumia Devices, just like the Second gen. Symbian Devices.. This would help improve the music listening quality..(And/Or) Equalizer options in the music player(i’ve used a Nokia 500 for over an year..and the audio quality was amazing) …as of now, I’ve got a L800, and i wish that i could get a bit more bass hitting me in the ear even with Low-impedance earphones..

Eagerly, Waiting for the updates… In Nokia We Trust!!

I just want to add, because a few people have asked in the comments, that you can also receive Bluetooth files from any other phone.

Using the standard Object Push Profile (OPP) in our Bluetooth transfer, any device that supports OPP will be able to interact with the phone.

    • Sagar Iyer

great news right there,…how about the music equalizer? ;)

    Hello NOKIA,
Can you please let me know when I can expect the update for the pathetic camera in my Lumia 800. I also need to know how many more updates it takes for Nokia to fix the bugs in Lumia 800. I am really frustrated with your Lumia 80o and its BIG list of bugs from the day of purchase. I will post another comment with the mail which i have sent to nokiaindiadigitalmarketing@ovi.com.
I have not recieved any reply yet.
Please read my next comment and answer me to all the bugs(Issues) which are present in Lumia 800.

If you feels its not fit for purpose, return it!

  • Sachin TP

I have just cut paste my email which was sent to nokiaindiadigitalmarketing@ovi.com please go through the issues with all the Lumia 800 phones and please let me know when we can expect fix for all these bugs.
    “Hi Nokia Team,

    Seasons greetings,

This is Sachin from KARNATAKA, Bangalore and, I happen to be a proud user of Nokia phones, ever since the days of Nokia 6600, N79…. I have simply loved everything that Nokia has had to offer me, be it the best music player, or the brilliant GPS navigation system or simply the sheer user interface. However, it seems that the trend doesn’t seem to continue, as I will explain to you as you read through my email. Especially after I purchased the top of the line product that Nokia had to offer in India,

    Nokia LUMIA 800

    IMEI : 359289041411857 (Old Phone)

    IMEI: 359289040922532 (Replaced Phone)

    Firmware Version: 1750.0805.8773.12220

    OS Version: 7.10.8773.98

I have got the latest firmware upgrade which is 1750.0805.8773.12220 and I have few problems one of which is a serious health hazard.
Sorry for the rude and blunt subject line, but I have been hearing the same one liner albeit the word “Nokia”, and that is ” SHAME ON YOUR 8.1 MP CARL ZEISS CAMERA”. All my phones till now has been a NOKIA. I will be telling you about some major drawbacks on this PREMIUM product from the NOKIA stable.
The camera lens is awesome man, but why do you guys ALWAYS screw up the photo processing, its the same case with my brothers’ Carl Zeiss camera on his 5800 which was also a PREMIUM “Flagship” product. However to take note of the plight of windows phone users, come on man Nokia is not in Android business, and I have opted for a Windows phone and to top it all its a NOKIA, give me something superb that i can talk about, or rather defend my phone with the thousand other android bozos who make fun of windows phones (read: lack of Bluetooth file transfer) or the awful image quality on NOKIA phones. Beat it man, a 5MP lens on a SAMSUNG FOCUS i917 wp7 works wonders and gives an awesome feel and SUPERB image capture facility. I am sure this is exactly the same thought millions of other users world wide are feeling about a LUMIA, and I don’t think this is too much to ask for from NOKIA. To hell with Bluetooth file transfer man, I mean I can mail my images or docs over the email and I am truly proud how seamlessly it can be shared on Gmail or social networks, all thanks to the beautiful interface Microsoft and Nokia have come up with. But NO excuses for the camera. COME ON NOKIA DO SOMETHING, WORK ON THE IMAGE CLARITY.!!!!!!
Another issue is the bug in the volume, after the recent update, suppose I am on headphones and I am driving my phone, suppose someone calls me, BAM my ears are on the verge of explosion, there is a crackling sound followed by the voice from the call in FULL VOLUME, mark my words, i will be unable to reduce the volume as the phone is in my pocket and i am DRIVING, EVEN IF I REACH MY PHONE IF I TRY REDUCING THE VOLUME USING THE VOLUME ROCKER – IT WILL NOT REDUCE. I have to disconnect the call, remove the headphones then place the call again, and i am in the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD when all this happens :), jokes apart this is a serious health hazard and a sure solution to loose hearing! I have complained about this bug many times.I almost Forgot that i owned a NOKIA LUMIA 800.
Read: 3 months of CARE given by NOKIA CARE shipping his lumia800 from the service centre to head office in Delhi) and still NO SOLUTION.
I am not being angry on you, as a Nokia fan I want Nokia to surge in the market and I want it to be the best in the business, we are paying a huge amount for these premium phones and is it too much to ask for quality?? Atleast the 8.1MP camera, come on NOKIA.

I have given my phone to one of your Nokia care center in RT Nagar, Bangalore FOUR times but still my problem was not been resolved. THRICE it was sent to the manufacturer head office in Delhi. I did not have my phone for almost a MONTH. I have paid 29000INR for this so called flag ship phone from NOKIA which had many bugs from the day I bought it (Poor Battery, No bass in music play back, random restarts, Volume Bugs(too many of them), SMS typing lag( letters of the word appear after you have typed the word), Screen flickering( the display shifts from left to right)). It was only after I got the update that few of the major bugs were resolved. However the volume problem has remained while most of the other volume problems have been resolved by Nokia but one major has been elusive and has just not caught the attention of you guys inspite of my repeated attempts to explain the problem to your technicians at the Nokia care center!

Here is a detailed explanation of the problem:

1.” Connect Nokia hands free or any headphones to my Lumia 800 and make a call and notice that u cannot adjust the volume. Volume remains high (max) “ALWAYS” even if you reduce the volume to zero.”

2.”Connect hands free or any head set to my Lumia 800,
    then play music and reduce the volume to 15 or less;
now make a call, again you cannot adjust the volume of the call.
Now disconnect the call and you should notice that music resumes playing in max volume which you will not be able to reduce. Until you remove your hands free or headset and reinsert it.

The hazard I was telling you about is that when you make a call using the hands free or head phone for the first ring there is a very harsh loud cracking noise which can harm your ears (in full volume ie., 30 in a wp7). Due to this I cannot listen to Radio due to the fear that my ears will get damaged when I receive any call while listening to the Radio. Even your Nokia care center people have experienced it in my phone.

This problem was also experienced by your Nokia care center people when I gave my phone for service. They updated my phone and gave it back and the phone was working fine till I started installing apps and synchronizing my Facebook, Gmail, Windows live accounts, after an hour the problem persisted. I gave the phone to Nokia service center, they sent it to Head office when I got back the phone I found the same issue and showed it to your Nokia care centre guys. They sent back the phone to head Office and got it back but still I have the same problem.

Description to replicate the issue (here is how to recreate the scenario I am talking about in case you have formatted my phone and find that the volume problem has been solved) :

The phone starts working fine once it’s formatted or updated until you start installing apps from the market place, start synchronizing mail and Facebook accounts.

People in Head office are just formatting and updating the same Firmware which resolves the problem for few hours or a day and they say phone is working fine but they are not looking into the actual problem even after explaining the issue and steps to replicate the same. I am really fed up with the phone. It’s a great phone but why can’t NOKIA resolve these trivial issues. I have given the phone for service FIVE times. Had to visit NOKIA CARE center regularly for 3 months and finally received a replacement but still all the bugs and issues persist.

There are other very annoying issues as well:

    1. There is lag while typing message, characters show up after few seconds of typing.

    2. Screen flickers randomly.

    3. Continuous jitter(lag) in Video play back after recording video or playing Youtube videos.

    4. Phone hangs while playing music and typing a message or doing other tasks simultaneously. Have to hold down the power button for few seconds and restart the phone to make work again which is horrible, because no other windows phones hang but this phone is very frustrating.

All the above issues mentioned are not related to my phone alone . All the issues are present in all the NOKIA LUMIA 800 phones. Five of my poor friends and relatives are owning this model and all are really frustrated with the phone.

NOKIA claims through its advertisement Tag line that “BETA TESTING IS OVER”

But I regret to say that Nokia is using its customers for testing their products more than any other OEMS in the market.

I would also like to add that i have used a Samsung Focus i917 Windows phone, upgraded to the same condition but it simply was flawless. I do not happen to draw comparison between the cellular giants, but this email is a reminder of the wrath faced by me and my sincere request to genuine NOKIA engineers to rectify the problems.
Awaiting swift reply and irresolution of the issues.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Sachin TP

Well now great to see all this boastful talk – Its a pity you are unable to get the basics right ! My girlfriend went for the Nokia Lumia 800 over the apple iphone – what a mistake that has turned out to be!! Talk about an impossible task to transfer music onto her phone – what a pain. Downloaded Zune tried to sync her phone endless times – tried to drag and drop music in. Nothing at all. Lots of research done – you tubes videos followed – Nokia guides followed. Am i going nuts or something ?? This is Nokia we are talking about isn’t it ? I thought the transfer of music was basic. Not for Nokia it seems or at least not on the brand new nokia 800 my girlfriend has. :-(

Nokia Support for its devices is legendary. I remember owning a 5800 and E71. Both received updates even after 2 yrs. That’s what is missing in other companies like Samsung etc… They just abandon their users. Not Nokia… # 1 in peoples hearts.. Keep up the good work.

I use a Lumia 800, some of my concerns are as follows:

    Hardware:

    1. The switch between wifi – 3G leads to connectivity outage.2. The phone gets heated up on gprs usage of Nokia Music, Maps, etc…On getting heated there are frequent call drops.
    3. The battery back up is poor (3hr – standby+talk time) on normal usage.
    4. The sensors misbehaves frequently.

    Software:
    1. Flash message support, Nokia Contacts app and Blue tooth transfer are some of feature we wish to see soon.

using phone as a modem may b also a great feature to include in Nokia lumia devices…

I cant download a file (via mail attachment or a link) from IE to my mobile. These days smart phones are supposed to substitute computers. but this basic functionality is lacking. no file manager to access internal storage :( no Opera browser. the latest update says “media files via Bluetooth” hey but what about non-media files like doc or xls huh?? still a long way to go Nokia… sad.

I’m sad to say I’ve reassigned my lumia 800. Its no longer a phone its my new full time sat nav and it now lives in my car. I hate the fact that I got screwed by Microsoft with nokia’s help. I got my lumia in January as an early upgrade and I’m going to be paying for it for the next 18 months of it 2 years. That a long time I’m gonna be kicking myself and hateing the desision to get the Lumia 800. Looks like the only phones to get the latest OS for 3 years or more and proper bug fixes is the iPhone so that’s where I’m going next after moving to wp7 from android and its many bugs.
It looks like Microsoft are the only winners in all from the window phone 7 failier. Will windows phone 8 live as long before windows phone 9 replaces it…….

  • Benjamin (GH)

if the update is going to support bluetooth file transfer, does that mean that its going to have a file manager too?? because how then do i get access to the bluetooth files?? esp music and video files and maybe also document files (word, excel, ppt, pdf), currently i have non of this document file types on my lumia 800 because i have to upload to skydrive then sync to the phone which to me is a long process considering the fact that my laptop isn’t on the net all the time.

big ups to the development team too but again i have a problem with the fact that i have to developer unlock my phone before i can sideload applications that i downloaded from third party sites, does this then means that if am not a developer, i can not install apps from third party sites???

  • http://www.facebook.com/muthu.kumarp Muthu Kumar P

much disappointed with Microsoft’s support for enterprise messaging device encryption on existing phones whereas latest Droids can do it with no additional requirements
. Glad that Nokia doesn’t let an individual user lose hopes.. Heard about talks of Nokia’s collaboration with Good Technology to release an messaging client to address device encryption. Any update on when that will be available? This would at least sooth existing Lumia enterprise business users

Wow wowowowo, I am an owner of a Nokia Lumia 800.. I feel proud of being a part of Nokia’s product… Thank you Nokia for making me feel proud to own a Lumia 800.. And also you have proved that my money values and you have given me a best Smart Phone.. Guy’z, i would highly recommend you to buy the Nokia Lumia (Any model esp Lumia 800) because its a superb Smart rather Smartest Phone Ever.. The transmissions and the live tiles are superb.. And also , Moderator, is it real that the Mango 7.8 will be able to upgrade to win 8.. Was it right in what i hear.. If so, the hat’s off to Nokia.. You are the best and always care for your customers and you neva leave them back.. And also file sharing will be there on the Lumia 800 asap.. Ummm, I feel that the file sharing should not be there via Bluetooth , so that the mobile will be free from virus.. Its my suggestion, guyz in here dont get angry on this suggestion.. When will the win8 Upgrade be available in the market.. Please keep me posted..

    Thank you

    The Nokia Fan since 2005
    Love you Nokia.. <3

still no screenshot? still no font size change? still not fixing the white theme color to be brighter? i really regret giving up my blackberry for the windows nokia 900 phone now. you literally have to pay for most of the freaken apps. and on top of that, you dont have the same free apps/games like android, apple or blackberry’s have. you cant even have a theme or change the font to the phone neither. please, change that. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE CHANGE. cause as of now, i am not that excited at all about the windows 7.8 updates.

The only thing Nokia is still missing is the huge opportunity of having Instagram on Windows 8. I (and maybe a lot of people) have still not switched to Lumia because Instagram is like a social network, very important for any business, although it is still not available to Windows 8/Nokia devices.

Will stick with my lumia 800 for now as I can’t afford upgrading all the time. But I am happy with it. Best audio quality in years from a phone and does exactly what it should. Looks promising with the upgrades. Screen size doesn’t matter to me as all are cramped when surfing and is barely usable. Even my girlfriends IPad 4 makes me frustrated due to screen size.
I really hope Nokia can turn things around and Apple with it’s proven mediocre ability to renew itself will diminish.

It has been stated above. FROM LUMIA TO OTHER DEVICE !!!!!!
which mean we can’t receive any content from other device!!!!
Just sending only, can’t receive anything either doc, music, etc.
As I read this blog those things are crossed my mind. Now, let me know your interpretation for those sentence. :)

I hate to pour water on anyones fire but as a loyal fan of Nokia phones I have now changed to Samsung Galaxy S2 as my C-007 screen froze whenever I tried to use it nearing the end of my 2 year contract. My phones are always well looked after and I just could not work out what was causing this problem. I even tried a software update but it wouldn’t take.

My sister had the new Lumia 710 and I quickly came to realise that on every phone apart from these new ones Bluetooth did not do what it was meant to do.

I couldn’t believe Nokia could be so naive and take out such an important feature (or was this just Microsoft’s way of ‘controlling’ the phone?)

Anyway, it made my mind up for me – I was moving to Samsung and unless Nokia can get some new technology on board that works and has the correct ‘hand-shakes’ with other equipment, it will be a long day in hell before I go back to them.

How about choosing my own ringtone like mp3 music. The only ringtones to choose is the one available in the phone. How about the phonebook I cannot easily delete all contacts imported if I want to I need to delete it one by one. By the way I’m using Lumia 510.

Windows phone 7.5 users were left behind for 6 months and we believe Windows phone 8 users will suffer the same so do Windows phone 9 users. May god bless them.

sorry to kill the party…looking at the warranty, definitely the Nokia Lumia is not for humid countries & outdoor activities.. This is what the tech team wrote to me “warranty does not apply if the product has been exposed to moisture, to dampness or to extreme thermal or environmental conditions or to rapid changes in such conditions”

This means the Lumia is not for humid countries, outdoor people etc..Why dont Nokia be bold and rather than hide this in fine print in warranty come out & say it in the advertisements too..kieveverghese@gmail.com

Hi all, I have been an ardent Nokia fan. I had been using 5530 xpressmusic for the past couple of years and it was really good. Specially the camera (3.2) was stupendous with its shots matching pro-standards. Got some of them even framed. However, an irreparable hardware issue because of which the phone would shut down the moment I would receive a call made me change over to Lumia 610, the worst decision ever I now feel. The camera quality (5) is worse and worst is the app support. There is no dialler key on the front, have to take at least three steps besides flipping for the desired number to make the call. PC-phone file transfer despite Zune is also an issue. Lag-time in shifting from one app to the other has also to be addressed. Great looks and cosmetic updates are not going to help much. I am so disappointed that I feel like getting rid of this phone and never opt for Nokia again. Can I get it exchanged with another and better nokia phone? Please suggest anyone. Thanks!

Glad I stuck to my guns and kept with Nokia. My first ever phone was a Nokia Ringo, then a 5110 and so on through the Nokia Family.

I am really excited to have Cinemagraph on my phone. any word of when it will be released here in the UK? :)
