Today we’re delighted to announce the Nokia Lumia 510. It’s our most affordable Lumia so far: a stylish, entry-level smartphone that comes in five eye-catching colours: red, yellow, cyan, white and black.

System Specs

  • Display: 4-inch WVGA 800×480, TFT, capacitive touch screen
  • Memory: 256MB RAM (4GB internal storage)
  • Camera: 5-megapixel auto-focus; video recording in VGA resolution @30fps
  • Size: 120.7 x 64.9 x 11.5mm
  • Weight: 129g
  • Connectivity: GPRS/EDGE, WLAN 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, GPS/A-GPS, micro-USB, 3.5mm audio connector (AHJ + WP Controls), Dual Transfer Mode, HSDPA/WCDMA
  • Processor: Snapdragon S1
  • Talk time: (GSM/WCDMA) Up to 8.4 h/ 6.2 h; Standby time: (GSM/WCDMA) Up to 653 h/ 738 h

Unlike many smartphones at its price point, though, the Nokia Lumia 510 sports a generous 4-inch display. This gives you plenty of space to view pictures, videos and the Internet, and makes precise tapping and swiping easier.

On the back, there’s a 5-megapixel autofocus camera, ideal for snapping pictures of friends and family and then quickly posting to social networks right from the camera interface. You can also send pictures to your Microsoft SkyDrive account, where you can take advantage of 7GB of free, online storage you can access from anywhere.

As with all our Lumia smartphones, the Nokia Lumia 510 is powered by Windows Phone with its signature Live Tiles giving you at-a-glance updates and speedy access to everything you need to do. The power of the People Hub brings together everyone you know in one place, their latest social updates, as well as the ability to get in touch across a whole range of methods, from talking to tweets. There are Microsoft Office Mobile apps installed and the IE9 web browser guarantees a smooth web experience.

On top of that, you’ll also have instant access to the best mobile navigation and location services available today, in the form of Nokia Maps, Drive and Transport.

Nokia_Lumia_510_1_465

The Nokia Lumia 510 will be available to buy starting in November in India, China, South America and Asia. It will cost approximately USD199, before any local taxes and operator subsidies.

Now there’s another good reason to switch to Lumia.

      Standard spec for WP7 :)

    dose this phone have 3G?

    • http://twitter.com/TachyonicCargo Tachyonic Cargo

WCDMA is the standard 3G tech used most places, so I am going to assume yes. Besides, it’s Windows Phone. It would be pretty useless without at least 3G.

how can i have one for free?
    is there any way? :)

MicroSD storage expandability? What OS will it have (looks like WP7.5 in the video)

    • http://phonestabs.com/ Sumit

Yes, it is WP7.5 and has no microSD slot to expand storage.

Lumia 510 will be best seller if it will be priced under 10k but not around 11k like Lumia 610

  • http://www.arjunkr.in Arjun.K.R

price it around 9-10K….11K is way too costly

  • http://twitter.com/beranger_v4 Béranger

“India, China, South America and Asia”. Because we, in Europe, we’re all billionaires, right? Also, 4 GB of storage (probably 2.6 GB actual storage) is too low for people who install many apps. But the larger screen and the more conservative shape makes it more enviable than the 610 to many people.

    • MuhsSalah

xperia u has only 4 gb and its selling well
there was also omnia m which has 4gb too

      • Vikas Patidar

No one is buying Omnia W and Xperia U is android phone having SD card support. So nothing wrong when people buying it.

    • http://www.facebook.com/rajani.kanth.39501789 Rajani Kanth

billionaires !!! funny . u ppl need luxuries even some people not getting food in africa . just list ur billionaires .. they can even stand before india china south american and Asian billionaires and one question are u a billionaire ???

  • http://phonestabs.com/ Sumit

It might not become a recommended phone among those of the entry-level phones, because of the older version of Windows Phone OS.

While the market is about to be flooded with WP8 devices, we get to see another WP7 phone. On the other hand, the low price $199 might get some good sales.

    • TeckDevil

Well, its Low-End and low end droids also carry the old GingerBread. There should be a distinction b/w a Expensive Cell and a Cheap one!

      • http://twitter.com/LPmathur Ayush Mathur

        +1

  • http://www.facebook.com/veer.gupte Veer Gupte

its gonna be available for around 8k in india

    • Vikas Patidar

Official Price mentioned here is 199 USD excluding local taxes so I think it won’t be less then 10500 INR.

    • http://nokiainnovation.com/ jerrin joe francis

are u sure if yes then it has a great chance

      • Naresh

Even ther u can’t njoy the mobile bcz of low memory storage

are u serious? then am going to sell my 500 and buy this one for sure

  • Manan

When is it releasing in India and in mumbai?

  • http://twitter.com/bronzekid91 Maxi J. ✨

The awkward moment when the Lumia 510 looks better than the 610 .. Oh?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001861820313 Anubhav Singh

I don’t think it will be a success, because it runs on windows 7.5 and why would anyone want to buy a smart phone with outdated os? if there is windows phone 8 already in the market? (or it is going to release soon) and a big question.. it has wifi or not?

    • http://www.facebook.com/rajani.kanth.39501789 Rajani Kanth

come on dude its a NT kernal based os .it can not run on single processor .

    • http://twitter.com/LPmathur Ayush Mathur

gingerbread is more outdated than 7.8 which is still to come but people still buy yy shits!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001861820313 Anubhav Singh

I don’t think it will be a success, because it runs on windows 7.5 and why would anyone want to buy a smart phone with outdated os? if there is windows phone 8 already in the market? (or it is going to be release soon) and a big question.. it has wifi or not?

    • TeckDevil

Why do people still buy the Galaxy Y and all other cheap droids with Gingerbread? Grow up! Its a low-end phone!!

      • http://conversations.nokia.com Ian Delaney

While ‘low end’ isn’t a description I’d endorse, I think you are correct. Every phone has its price/spec point, and ultimately, we all choose the one that fits our needs and budget.

Providing the choice is the important thing.

    • Spedez

Yes, why would anyone buying an android phone want’s to get it with Android 2.3. Hmmm… People always complain on WP7.5 not being upgradeable to WP8 (which is not even out yet) but never complain about all those new android phones coming with 2.3 that can never be upgraded to 4. At least WP7.5 will have WP7.8 upgrade which is more than many android handsets will ever have.

    • Prasenjit Bist

because for enduser and a customer on budget that’s not a big difference. WP7.5 and WP8 share same fluid UI,social network integration, Xbox, office, skydive etc….

  • http://www.facebook.com/kristijan.sasilo Kristijan Sašilo

While I understand the need for a low-end device such as this, I do not understand why it has to be WP7.5 (7.8?). Was it not possible to create a low-end WP8 Lumia and keep it in the same production cost budget? :S Yes, I know, there are plenty of people who simply don’t care which operating system their phone runs, but still, WP8 will bring many improvements to the OS itself, make things easier and faster. And it’s WINDOWS PHONE! It doesn’t need extraterrestrial specs to run smoothly! It could run on the abacus! :) Lumia 610 is proof enough that WP runs perfectly well on low specs…

  • Swapnil Nigam

what is the price of nokia lumia 510 in India?? Also is it available to buy online ???

  • Himanshu Khandelwal

this is awesome stuff….nd is surely gonna revolutionize the windows phone market…nd will set a milestone in budget smartphones…thanks to nokia for launching this awesome device

  • http://twitter.com/anuj_t Anuj T

it will sell in india only if nokia price it at 9999 INR or less.

  • http://www.facebook.com/alin.coman.50 Alin Coman

Why does Nokia release a phone with a DEAD OS??? WP 7.5 is DEAD, it has no update path!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/Krishna2338 Krishna Sarma

      7.8

      • http://conversations.nokia.com Ian Delaney

Indeed. The specification for the latest OS wouldn’t (currently) allow for such a low entry level.

    • Spedez

Right. And all the millions of WP7.5 just stop working because there is no upgrade path to WP8. Do you think Windows 7 is dead because Microsoft will soon release Windows 8.

  • Vikas Patidar

Why 5 MP camera rather then use 3.2 MP and include more storage. 4 GB only internal storage is a big pain for windows phone which has no SD card support.

Why you people aren’t screwing that WP 7.XXX crap platform. Even current Lumia sales have witnessed and Lumia 800/90 proved a big disaster among current portfolio then what is the sense of bringing such restricted specs devices in markets where consumers are more open minded.

    Give more choice to consumers:
    Like:

    1) WP 8 OS
    2) 3.5 Inch screen size is ideal for the low end WP
    3) 4GB internal memory with micro SD support.
    4) 3.2 MP camera with either LED flash or front camera.
    or
    5) 5 MP camera with LED flash.

If Microsoft is limiting you from developing such kind of customizable models then nothing left for us.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1156805760 Sam Insomniac

5MP For City lens & other camera apps to work.

Dude, first of all. Those who choose these kind of cheap phones doesn’t need 64 or 84 GB. And know what? Sky- Drive ?

    • http://www.facebook.com/lostmaheart Vishnu Ashok Padaveedan

has nt it got led flash.?

    • http://conversations.nokia.com Ian Delaney

The *actual* price will depend on local operators, etc.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kunal.jindal Kunal Jindal

everyday we hear a new Lumia..510, 810, 920, 820…and the list is growing. However none of these is available in the outlets…when you dont have to launch something anytime soon then why so much of gas. I agree that some bit of pre lauch buzz isnecessary but it does put Nokia behind in race by not delivering when people are excited about their product. I am in India and I have been waiting for Lumia 920…just beccause Nokia is not lauching it my plans to buy the phone a getting diluted by launch of other comparable products like S3, Note 2, iphone 5 etc…nokia really needs to get a grip and high time launch the phones. i cant understand what on earth they are waiting for..

    • 111san

theyve said in november (though november in india for the 920 is doubtful). anyway exact date shouldnt matter unless you planned to camp out at some store to buy this like those apple fanboy idiots

    • http://twitter.com/LPmathur Ayush Mathur

its not a fault of nokia, microsoft is not ready to launch wp8. But wait is now almost over as they are making it available this 29th. Then nokia role comes into play. howEver, a little wait aldays doubles excitement.

      • saif maknojia

asia people r loyal customer of nokia and india is the most loyal customer so they shld have launch it before diwali

    • saif maknojia

even same prob with me i want 2 buy nokia lumia 820 but product is not available in the market so wat to do?

    • saba

like apple! theres always new product coming up..e.g. iphone..it started with iphone 3g and followed up to iphone 5!

  • nikita nahar

    is wifi available??

    • http://twitter.com/LPmathur Ayush Mathur

      yes

  • http://www.facebook.com/abdul.qadeer.397 Abdul Qadeer

Lumia 510 phone is good I agree, 4inch screen is awsome i agree, faster browsing i agree, pdf files and ms files support I agree…………..But the main thing why need 5mp camera ……..Camera should be 3.2 mp or 2 mp ………and memory should be 8gb…………..Memory is really disappointing………….I know that 7gb cloud space also there……………..best for those who don’t download movies ……..I know Nokia will get millions money from this phone but he should think about indian mind first…….:)

    • Naresh

Yup.. lumia will never get success bcz of only low memory issue..

    • http://www.facebook.com/lostmaheart Vishnu Ashok Padaveedan

does it have a led flash light.?

  • http://twitter.com/LPmathur Ayush Mathur

Just 2.5gb storage,no gorrila, no led, no headset in sales package, no usb charger in package, no exciting colors availat launch. STILL $199 (not much gap in 610) it ll be a hit to itself!

  • http://www.geekchoice.com Dagmar Schneitz

The Cyan color: can’t we just call it blue?

  • Trulyindian

Without expandable storage, it is not worthy

    • Spedez

Why would you need expandable storage? Planning to take more than 10k pictures? Expand them to cloud if you need to.

      • Vikas Patidar

No one uses cloud thing in India… There are different-different trends among countries. And better specs phones are already in market compared to this lumia

      • Trulyindian

@Spedez:disqus: Storage is not only for pictures. We have to store songs. We need videos. We need apps. We need maps. All of them takes space. And 4 GB is not sufficient for all these things. Because even Nokia Maps download is around 422 MB that too only for India. And we cannot go online every time because it costs much. So you can understand why I wrote that. If nokia cannot provide more memory, atleast they should not restrict people from purchasing more.

  • vshlkmr

If this thing is under 10k in India, loads of android users are going to be converts ;)

  • ROSS

will city lens be available on nokia lumia 510

    • ROSS

and does lumia 610 follow city lens

  • http://www.facebook.com/Krishna2338 Krishna Sarma

sell this in india under 7000rs

  • http://naushad.me/ Naushad

The design is awesome, the screen is great and the OS is amazing.

But, im really sorry to understand that Nokia failed to understand the basic need of users in “affordable phones” segment.

Did your team even think once before approving the design of this device without provide an SD Card slot in this device.

A basic research into this market would have made it clear that All phones in such range have an SD card slot.

Inbuilt storage will exhaust in just few days of getting the device.

And if the excuse is SkyDrive, be aware that users in India do not have high-speed connection and other platforms have huge options of online storage.

OK … So … Where are the 7.8 update release date? Please set it so we know how long we’ll need to wait until we receive those updates.

  • marcvann8

This article is technically old as the calendar of technology goes really fast but I cant help to agree with the information provided by the author. This will be my opinion though, at the present, we have the Nokia Lumia 920, but this paved the way of nokia’s entrance to smartphone industry. I recommend Lumia 510 for its simplicity, price and windows 8 OS :)

Well Every functions are good at all but without Bluetooth sharing not serving all the task quietly, because now-a-days Bluetooth has become right hand sided function in-terms of Mobile using. My request would be to rectify it if possible. But of course Brand is always Brand.—– Jubar
