Angry Birds Star Wars Edition: use the eggs, Luke

Angry Birds Star Wars

If you’re a fan of Angry Birds and a fan of Star Wars (and let’s be honest, who does that leave out?) then you probably want to know that Angry Birds Star Wars is available to download from the Windows Phone 8 Store right now! That’s right, Red Bird and Pink Bird have undergone an epic transformation in their endless battle against the Bad Piggies.  Get ready to grab your Lightsaber and undertake an intergalactic adventure through iconic locations like Tatooine, the Death Star and beyond.

Download Angry Birds Star Wars
angrbbirdsstarwars

  1. Press the Search button on your Nokia Lumia and then tap Vision
  2. Scan the QR code
  3. Tap on the link when it appears on the screen
  4. Install the application from the Windows Phone Marketplace

The game was officially launched at midnight (PST) by Rovio and Lucasfilm and landed on Windows Phone 8 at the same time as Android and iOS. That’s thanks to some close collaboration between Nokia and our Finnish neighbors Rovio to get the game ready so soon after Windows Phone 8 launch.

That means lucky owners of the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820 can be among the first in the world to experience the bringing together of two of the world’s most popular entertainment franchises. And what better way to enjoy the game? Dazzling on Nokia’s latest ClearBlack displays those Bad Piggies won’t be able to hide, while the super sensitive touchscreen means you won’t miss a shot (even if like us here in Finland, you’re already wearing your gloves against the cold). You can even load it into your Kids Corner profile and let the kids discover Luke, Leia and all the gang.

There’s no doubt that if you can’t get enough of Angry Birds, the latest Nokia smartphones on Windows Phone 8 are the phones for you. Fans of our ruffled-feathered friends can already download the gravity-defying Angry Birds Space, while Angry Birds Roost, exclusive to Lumia, gives access to the latest Angry Birds news, videos, ringtones and videos.  What’s more, from next week you’ll be able to launch all your Angry Birds adventures from within Angry Birds Roost, providing a single hub for your birdie fix.

As for when Angry Birds Star Wars might arrive on Lumia phones running on Windows Phone 7.5 – Rovio and Nokia want to make sure everything works as well as it can before they launch the game, but we’ll update you as soon as we know more. In the meantime, go and download Angry Birds Roost to access some free goodies and use the Angry Cam to liven up your photos.

May the birds be with you.

UPDATE: A lot of you were anxious about when the title might be available for other Nokia Lumia handsets. Our friends at Rovio have responded in the comments below. Here’s what they have said:

Hey, it’s Rovio here! We can see you’re all pretty anxious to get your hands on our latest Angry Bird titles, which makes us very happy. We just wanted to reassure you that for people using a Nokia Lumia 900, Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710, we plan to have Angry Birds Space and Angry Birds Star Wars with you in a matter of weeks. We’re working with Nokia to make both available on the Nokia Lumia 610 and Nokia Lumia 510, but we can’t make any promises, just yet. Keep watching Nokia Conversations for specific updates. May the birds be with you!

Yes, same thing was said about the angry birds space….

  • Dome

Nokia has promised in June also the arrival of Angry Birds Space on windows phone 7 and it never arrived.
If you want to keep credibility give us a sign of what are you saying…
In 1/2 (HALF) year our phone, from high end phone, have become older than any Android on market…

    • pdexter

You can download Space and Star Wars right now. They are both in Store for Windodws Phone 8.

Already download star wars for my Lumia 920.

      • Mirai Densetsu

He said for Windows Phone 7, not 8.

No one that has Lumia 900, Lumia 800, Lumia 710 or Lumia 610 can download it yet.

Im leaving WP if space and star wars dont come for WP!
Really im done with it…it mayb really smooth OS, but no..thats not all…its competition with apps and games too , which we dont have…WP lacks so much with apps and games…TEMPLE RUN runs on outdated iphones….but not on a 1 year old lumia 800!

    Are you kidding me??
MS and nokia..better get everything up..or ull losing everything!
and im not gonna buy an expensive new WP8 phone just for new apps! If you’ll want me to replace my 800 with an 820!!! dats how it should be done!

    I HOPE YOULL REPLY!!!

    • pdexter

The problem is it’s Rovio. Nokia and MS have paid for them to even make the first Angry birds available.

There’s no business for Rovio as they have to do the whole app from the start for very small market. They are business like any other business.

Reason why you see all of this now coming faster is the Windows 8 kernel and native code. Rovio can now re-use the code across platforms.

If you are wondering will these became available for WP7.X, don’t, because they simply wont.
As for WP7.8 word in the street has been early 2013 for some time.

      • http://www.facebook.com/surya.fernandes Dexter Fernandes

Im done with WP XD XD

        • http://twitter.com/BharatJusta Bharat Justa

It’s just business! Nokia is not the company that it used to be.
And I’m gonna buy a Nexus next time :P
Mass storage mode and BT file transfer were the most important to me. I don’t care about Shitty Angry Birds.

          • http://www.facebook.com/surya.fernandes Dexter Fernandes

            Lol..:P Bharat..get back in the group..where the hell have u been? :P

bdw i was planning WP8…seems they might ditch it for WP9 XD

          • http://twitter.com/BharatJusta Bharat Justa

I’ve permanently deleted my FB account.
WP9 will also have Windows NT kernel but I think M$ will make another excuse for not updating WP 8 phones to WP9 and force people to buy new phones.
            I’m not gonna do that!
I’ll get a device which will get updates!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003635518214 Gustav Christensson

Exactly! It runs on a Single-Core iPhone 4, but not on a Single-Core Nokia Lumia 900! YOU HEAR THAT????

      • http://twitter.com/BharatJusta Bharat Justa

        … 400MHz faster Lumia 710/800/900

  • Nico Arvela

I love it! Looks amazing in my Lumia 920!

  • http://www.facebook.com/kaspars.brivers Kaspars Brivers

I feel like an idiot now- year ago, I bought Lumia 800, just on launch, price was nearly 500GBP for sim free version. Now it costs much less than 200 GBP (sim free), which phone has so dramatic price drop? Next- loyal buyers are fck.up with software, when Microsoft says, that there will no be upgrade to WP8 at all! And even 7.8 we should wait for… who knows how long, but why? We first risked and bought Lumia phone, hoped for better future for Nokia, but now? Apps- this is example (angry Birds Star Wars release), how situation will be in future- there will no be up to date apps for WP7.5 or WP7.8 (if 7.8 will ever comes out), only for WP8 users. For developers it means- even smaller costumers range (I think, not many will be throwing in to dust bin their existing Lumia phones), and if it so- there will no be good apps for WP8 too.

Yes, maybe, Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 are great phones, but the way how Microsoft and Nokia treats existing Lumia buyers is not acceptable! Who cares about wireless charging and sensitive touch screen, if there is such a big gap in the app market between WP and leading platforms, and even worst- there is no any sign of improvements for future!

WP7.5 smart phone now is like cheap future phone, but instead of buttons and monochrome screen, there is super Amoled touchscreen and extremely poor battery life.

    • malerocks

I understand your frustration, but the decision of not releasing WP8 for older devices is a MS decision, not Nokia’s. MS claim that the coding structure (or whatever it is called) of WP8 is such that it wont run on WP7.5 device hardware. This applies to all WP7.5 devices, and not just Nokia Lumia ones

      • http://twitter.com/TheFightSayeth My Name is The Fight

        Claim?

They changed the kernel… please research this before you put up that complaint.

        • Mirai Densetsu

          So…?

Kernel change was never an excuse to do such thing. Even at cell phone market, they can change the OS kernel without problems, as we can see with the fruit phone.

By the way, Windows 8 (for desktop) runs well at machines where the hardware configuration are worse than the lumia line.

So, why not? I know, Nokia is doing her best trying to support the L610/L710/L800/L900 (and even L510) customers. But it seems that MS is not helping them.

When I saw that WP 7.8 won’t have the native code (C++/Direct X) support, I known that this will happen. And it will continue to happen while WP 7.5/7.8 haven’t this resource.

          • http://twitter.com/TheFightSayeth My Name is The Fight

first, comparing kernel changes by just noting that it changed and not noting how drastic a change occurred is foolhardy.

second, comparing a desktop os to a mobile os makes no sense. at all.

third, MS isn’t helping Nokia?? why do you decide to post such short sided nonsense? Most MS events about Windows Phone 8 have had Nokia right along side them. talking to the people at that events, the reps for both companies will tell you how much one works with the other. arguably, MS and Nokia is what’s keeping WP 7.x afloat. moreso than any other oem. LG all but gave up on the platform, remember that.

you want to be mad at Nokia, fine. but do it for a valid reason. do it for something that you can honestly say makes no sense at all. don’t do it because it’s trendy to. don’t do it because people like to blame Elop for the way the company looks right now. don’t get on here or anywhere else and regurgitate nonsense that Nokia haters spew.

          • Mirai Densetsu

First, the case here is change the whole kernel. Microsoft could done this. And everyone knows that the justificative given by MS to not port Windows Phone 8 to these phones is nothing more than an lame excuse.

Second, mobile OS must be lighter than an desktop OS. Agree?

Third, MS is helping only themselves. If you saw the other companies events, you’ll see Ballmer stating that the signature device for WP8 is not nokia’s, but HTC. Are this helping?

Nokia is trying very hard to keep their current Lumia customers happy. But the help that MS is doing? “We’ll launch an consolation prize. OEM must help themselves to keep my SO customers happy, since i’m not giving a fuck to them”. LG had an reason to abandon their WP line.

I’m happy with Nokia, but mad at Microsoft. If nokia adopt the green robot SO to the next lumia line, i’ll make sure to buy one.

    • Ziad Mohamed

Respect your opinion very much…I share with you 10000% same in every word

When we see xperia arc and arc s and even galaxy mini

have this games and we with our lumia 800 havn’t it…it is shame…..we are the most loyal Customers and Nokia should respect us… like we trusted her in such critical time
Why all the android 2010 and 2011 lines get all the high end game then…and may our lumias is more stronger
      VERY SAD :(

    • http://www.facebook.com/surya.fernandes Dexter Fernandes

yea…even i got it for 28000 Rs in india and now its like 19K
im so pissed..no apps..no much support for WP7…y did they even release WP7 devices with Nokia! MS should ahve just made WP8 devices with nokia.
      I seriously demand a replacement of 820 for 800.

Will Angry Birds Star Wars for WP 7.5 also available for the Nokia Lumia 610?

  • Stefan

Will Angry Birds Star Wars also be available for the Nokia Lumia 610?

  • Mitchell Sheehan

This is so dam unfair.. . First No Temple Run, Now Angry birds Space as we as Star Wars. . :( I feel so let down. . . This is really not a pretty sight. They have let me down too many times……..

  • Mikko T

I really hope that releasing Angry Birds Space / Star Wars for WP8 first is just a marketing trick to sell more WP8 phones.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=850255340 Alexander Kellett-Ionescu

Still no WP7.8 for my Lumia 710. No new applications. Applications I bought are barely being updated.
Done with Windows Phone. Bought myself an iPhone 5.

I am getting frustrated in seeing that with my Nokia 910 the fix to make good games run on it has not been taken care of yet. Bottom line is the fix ever coming ? I think it is just best I take this phone back and get my $129+ tax.

Oh and I got the phone on prepaid from Telus in a package at FS so are you trying to dump your flawed phone Nokia on the poor ?
