Cool Lumia 920 videos and reviews

Published by Paul Coombes on November 15, 2012

There have been some amazing videos and reviews upon the release of the Nokia Lumia 920, here are the best:

A series of tests on YouTube by PhoneBuff assess the Lumia 920’s durability with a variety of challenges, such as the scratching of the mobile device with a set of car keys, the slicing away of the screen with a large knife and an attempt to smash the screen with a mallet.

Eventually, the smartphone was used to hammer in a nail, yet the Lumia 920 still comes up trumps, resisting damage and looking virtually untouched to the naked eye.

We’re all liable to accidentally dropping our phone, and in this video, the Lumia 920 is dropped onto a typical concrete street from differing heights - even enlisting in the help of a young boy – only to find the smartphone to still be working normally.

Nokia fans are known for their ingenuity and creative spirit, but John G. Pedersen showed incredible innovation when he tried to charge his Nokia Lumia 920 on a kitchen hob.

The Nokia Lumia 920 uses inductive charging, therefore the Dane wanted to test whether, or not, the smartphone would recognise the technology from the cooker. The video shows how the Nokia Lumia 920 recognised the technology, as signalled by the battery icon, but didn’t actually charge.

The ‘vibrant and colourful’ video coverage on the Nokia Lumia 920 was highlighted by Matt from Engadget as being ‘very, very good’, on a mobile device with a ’very sturdy classic bit of phone design.’

What do you think of these videos, entertaining, useful? If so, tell us by commenting below.

stunning phone…waiting for my yellow 920 to ship form atnt but looks like this color is hard to come by…. it must be a nightmare for Nokia’s marketing and sales teams to guess right levels of inventory of the lumias in different market given that you offer so many colors… unlike other phones which only come in one – black, or rarely in two.

This thing is a BEAST. Can’t wait for mine~

I might be switching to the 920 from another brand’s droid, have you got any news for me? i know the free wireless charger claim… anything else you got? I’m from Pakistan in case you need to know the region, and any news when would it hit the market in my country officially please?

        Thanks

It always pains me to see new phones being tortured like this (even though I understand it is necessary, so that we don’t have to test it for ourselves, hehehe), especially this masterpiece called Lumia 920, ESPECIALLY when there are units out there being destroyed right now, while I’ll have to wait to buy mine till Q1 2013 because Nokia has forgotten all about Croatia and other “unimportant” countries… :(

    • Un-Happy Costumer

I used to be a Nokia costumer for over 10 years, but unfortunately It doesn’t listen to It’s costumers anymore. yea i switched to an other brand after 10 years and I’m so happy about it. Good luck Nokia with selling same phone in various models years and years, hope it still works for you.

I agree with you. They really fucked up with their customers.

I went to buy the N9 and it costed a lot. It was on discount and after their site crashed they wouldn’t even give me the discount back. They are the ones in financial needs not me and they won’t even give a discount.

Then now they won’t give it to T-Mo. I contacted Stephen Elop and all he said was look out for news.

Basically the way they’re doing it is “Whatever, fuck you, you’ll pay.”

I can not understand how a company in financial needs does not treat their customers right. You need my money wtf is wrong with you?

Time to upgrade my trophy, 2 weeks until they are available in sweden tho :( The only thing i miss from my android is the swiftkeyX app, the next word prediction is almost so timesaving i can type as fast or faster in the phone as i can with a real keyboard, MS should either open up for these kinds of keyboard apps or incorprate the tech into the wp platform

    • http://www.facebook.com/Jitsins Jitendra Singh

Windows phone already have an awesome keyboard. On top of that, they have included predictive word sense in WP8 which learns from the words you type over time.

This phone looks absolutely great! Can’t wait for it to be available in my country, it would be the perfect Christmas gift :)

It’s too soon to replace my amazing N9 <3
But if i were to buy a new phone this would be it.
PS: I had chills running down my spine while watching that video. Poor Lumia.

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Paul C

I know what you mean regarding the chills but the phone handled it like the champion it is!

hey Paul, nice to see you responding so well with the people around here, i have a question 50% related and 50% off topic, hope you would care to answer :)

there was a competition for 5 nokia lumia 920′s that had to end today, when would the results be announced and where would they be announced?

Thanks and Regards, keep up the great work! :)

        • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Paul C

Thanks Sibt, can you tell me which competition it was?

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=624855599 Sibt Ul Hasnain Ashmal

It was on the facebook page, theres an app called Nokia Lumia Competition, on the Official Nokia Facebook Page, i.e thats the global page, not related to any specific country it has a brown Nokia icon, sorry im describing it in a very lame way, the contest had to end on 16th of november, and the question they had asked was where or how would one use the wireless charging thingy in the Lumia 920. i hope its clear enough now Paul, as i dont want to post links for the fear of getting my post not published and recognized as a spambot or something…
Kindly look into it and update me.
            Regards.

920 tempts me to gift my samsung galaxy note to my wife and buy a 920 instead ;) :D

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Paul C

Seems like a logical thing to do. What’s stopping you? In fact… why not gift your wife a Lumia 920 too? :)

      • http://twitter.com/ak_r7 Avinash Kumar

Lumia 920 is too costly and i just bought a samsung note 3 months back :(
I am looking for some lumia 920 giveaway :P :D

        • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Paul C

Oh I see! Well, keep your eyes on our official channels for competitions. And our Facebook pages too!

          • http://twitter.com/ak_r7 Avinash Kumar

Can you give me the link to your FB page? Which official channel you are talking about? :)

can you do these exact tests with a GS3 and iP5?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1509357272 Azzam Aziz

Maybe the GS3. The iP5 would already be broken lol.

  • http://www.cubeverse.it/ Mr Snurbs

Hello, I like very much this new Lumia 920 but, even if I know that this is not the right topic, I want to make a question about Nokia N9.

Nokia will release some upgrade, even bugs fix at least, in the future?

Please, do not reply to me that Windows Phone is you primary platform now, I know it very well, I want only know something about bugs fix for Nokia N9, thanks :)

    • Un-Happy Costumer

      They don’t. believe me.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1509357272 Azzam Aziz

They won’t fix it. Their reason is “Because fuck you, that’s why.”

They never fix any of the Symbian issues unless all customers raise hell. They really suck at customer satisfaction.

I had a Nokia Lumia 900… They said I could hammer a nail on it without anything happening…
Then slid on some concrete… A corner of the glass cracked.

  • Dan

I got a scratch on my 920 screen, and it’s only a week old. I don’t know how I got it. It’s like a little L shaped scratch, you can only see it from some angles in the light, but I know it’s there, on my new phone :| . The guy in the test tries to scratch it and he can’t do it, and I don’t know how I did it …. fk…. I don’t have a hi res camera to put it on youtube.

  • TheDudeAtParker

Can you try running a truck over it next time?

the video review from techno buffalo is of the 900, not 920

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Paul C

yikes, thanks for noticing. it shall be removed. … still a good review of the 900 though :)

Love my Nokia 920 compare to my Samsung focus.
After that phone I’m never buying Samsung again.

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Paul C

What’s your favourite thing about your Lumia 920 Kevin?

  • Chris

I just got the 920 and love it… I also loved my 900 before that, except for the fact that one drop on the driveway and the glass cracked. The crack crossed the front camera and thus whenever I made or received a phone call it thought my face was right next to it and the screen went black. Couldn’t hang up a call, couldn’t answer call waiting, couldn’t use the phone while on a call, couldn’t call automated phone systems. I wouldn’t call the 900 indestructible… here’s hoping the 920 is stronger!

  • PsyCLown

    Sooo want one! :(
Will be switching from my HTC Mozart.

  • http://twitter.com/Ndritu_ Arnold

When oh when will I be able to purchase a fully unlocked Lumia 920 without being shackled to ANY carrier?

  • Richard Feinburg

Was going to buy it but not going to switch to AT&T anytime soon. T-Mobile is much cheaper and really don’t want the Nokia Lumia 810. Going with the HTC 8X instead.

This is why Lumia 920 will not do well because of the exclusive carrier. :-/

    • http://www.facebook.com/chris.peters.7503 Chris Peters

I’m on Verizon and we only have the 820. What a joke. I completely agree with you about the exclusive.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sitimarwiyah.abubakar Siti Marwiyah Abu Bakar

i dont know they did the test but it hurts me… :) luckily the phone still worked as new.

I am using lumia 920 for the past one week. I am facing at least once in a day the lock button not locking the screen …so I had switch off and switch it back on to get that worked.. Also once In a while I could not synch emails. It gives message saying server error and if I try again it works..
Last point.. I am not sure if I missed some settings.. Missed calls are not as easily noticeable as in iPhone and it doesn’t show the amount of time I spent in each of the call..

  • Julien Boussontié

Hey Paul thanks for the responses but this is a bit off topic. I was wondering if you made a review of the 820 or if there is one here fuse I like it a little better than the 920. Thank you sir.
