The 7 best Nokia Lumia 920 memes so far

Published by Joel Willans on November 21, 2012

Memes are a pretty new phenomenon, right? Well, yes and no. Surprisingly, it was the famed British evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins who first came up with the term in his 1976 book The Selfish Gene. He coined it to explain the amazing way ideas and cultural phenomena spread.

He probably didn’t expect memes to take off quite so spectacularly, but thanks to the Internet, ideas are now shared lightning fast. Maybe it’s to be expected, then, that the Nokia Lumia 920 has now started to spawn its very own memes. Only time will tell if the the Lumia 920 ever reaches the legendary meme heights of the Indestructible Nokia, but we’re sure Chuck Norris would approve, nonetheless.

 Number one.

Number two.

Number three.

Number four.

Number five.

Number six.

Number seven.

We love them all, but which number do you think best captures the magical qualities of the world’s most innovative (and hard as nails) smartphone? Let us know in the comments below. Or, if you think you can do better, share a link to your own Lumia 920 meme.

For gods sake please use a different background for each one. Right now 7/7 suck balls.

I imagine all of these were created by Nokia employees.

    • Bob

Then you’re an idiot. Nokia does not create fugly shit, they leave that to others.

    • Titi

Each has a watermark on it. Can’t you guess who made it?:)

Ok here is the thing now that people are going to get offended.

Memes are not something that you use as a marketing tool. You do not start a competition asking people to create new ones hoping that some of them would go viral.

Memes are something that happens by itself. Like the one mentioned in the blog post above featuring their rock solid devices from the 90s.

I have not seen ONE meme regarding the Lumia 920. And none of the ones embedded above are even funny. Sorry to say, I do not believe any of the above ones were made by a Lumia 920 fan. Just that.

Nokia is just mocking the entire concept of Memes if they run a marketing campaign asking people to create new ones. This is not how you do it.

        • Titi

And each picture has PhoneArena’s watermark on it:) No credits. Funnny:)

          • Bob

Hey dont call retards “funny”, it’s not politically correct…

          • http://www.facebook.com/joel.willans Joel Willans

Very impressive eagle eyes, Titi. Didn’t spot it myself immediately. The guy or girl who made them on memegenerator (See the link in the 2nd paragraph) presumably used a pic from Phone Arena.

Needless to say if we were making our own memes we’d use our own photos of our own smartphone rather than someone else’s (Even though we’re massive fans of Phone Arena). And of course if these memes were hosted on Phone Arena we’d credit them. Instead we linked to the site they came from. Probably not as funny as you first thought, but hopefully that all makes sense?

Oh please! Get over yourself. It’s just a bit of fun. I see hundreds of memes every week, including some for the 920. Google it. Most memes suck, but its hardly difficult to add some words to a picture, is it?

And what exactly is wrong with asking people if they can do better? It’s not like meme making is some high brow art form that only specialist can do.

And do you really think Nokia care about making a 920 meme that goes viral. Everyones talking about it anyway.

          • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

valid point. i am over it. kindly ignore my previous comments. :)

Lovin’ number three! That’s an important distinction well made.

    • Bob

But the background sucks. If they have Chuck Norris holding it then the meme would mean something. As talented as Nokia are, they do not understand memes.

      • http://www.facebook.com/ecranelake Eliot Cranelake

Yeah some of these would be better with different pic, but IMO the best memes are the one with same pic and different words. Number three totally works as it is. You could have Chuck Norris holding it but it’s hardly subtle is it?

920′s so much more than indestructible. id focus more on camera. Something like “Earth quake ruins your holiday. Holiday snaps come out perfect.” Thats pretty bad but you know what i mean.

  • Wallstreetpayoff

I think number four says it all. Really impressed with Slashgears review of the Verizon 822 also: “a perfect blend of hardware and software”. “Perfect” They didn’t say that about Sammie..

  • jlangfel

Very funny, although I think Chuck Norris might have a word to say about this LOL

    Very funny … cheers

number three is the best one imho, funny and attention grabbing

#7 is funny and has a great cultural reference.

  • http://twitter.com/UrServiceCoach Dan Murray

Great article and thanks for sharing.

At least at this point in time the Nokia Lumia 920 looks like it kills the competition in Windows Phone 8 devices.

  • George

What would we do without the Internet?

    • Shannon Nanna

      get some work done?

      • Shannon Nanna

I own a hair salon in Dallas, and every day I have to ask clients to get OFF their phones so we can cut their hair evenly. A good phone meme would be women with their hair lopsided because they kept their phone to their ear when they got their hair cut. Thanks, Nokia. Thanks AT&T. Thanks 4GLTE. Thanks Internet!

  • simonesweetweet

Seventh is cool but the second is real

  • http://twitter.com/samstacle samstacle

This last one is epic hahaha

  • http://twitter.com/SteveCassady Steve Cassady

I like number 5 for the goal, but in cultural reference it did get thrown in a pit of fire.

  • www_kosovoparty_com

More articles like this one :D

  • Biswajit Mallick

Loving it.. When it will come in Indian market??? :(

  • http://www.facebook.com/aerospecies Ambrose Eromosele

You are also limited to EE network (EE orange and T-mobile) in the UK. I hate you now. I am deciding on going for Ativ s. I sold my Iphone 4s because of you.

  • C334S

I made these up while mucking around. One is about the strength of the phone, the other is about a certain online 920 review that called 185 grams “As heavy as a ton” and “185 grams is over 1/4 of a kilo! (nice mathematics)”

  • http://twitter.com/Charmilio20 Emilio

    Hilarious!

  • http://www.facebook.com/UndCOVer Moody Caplan

need that picture of the Lumia 920 I can’t find it to create a new one.

  • Srinivasan Jv

#7 & #4 are awesome & supercool ! An hammer-wielding god upgraded to Nokia Lumia 920 after loosing the hammer is wise;)

  • http://twitter.com/PavelQCanizalez Pavel Canizalez

    I like number 4.

  • Eab

Bought the 920 (one of the last available in Moscow). I’m totally impressed by the phone! It easily beats Apple 5 and from my opinon Android too. It’s a new way into the future and I expect some great developments in the coming months. Live apps are very comfortable and the speed of phone is perfect. I stayed loyal to Nokia but started to hate the software on my E-7. The body was great but software shit… windows 8 phone is it!

Ok this is a little lame. Everyone loves memes, but they don’t work when companies abuse them to market their products.

You should put more weight behind the Nokia 3310 memes, which aren’t about selling Lumias but about recognizing the value of your brand over the years: Nokia is well known for solid, durable phones. These Lumia 920 memes are just ads, the Nokia 3310 memes are not, yet speak better about Nokia.

  • http://twitter.com/GummBarry Barry Gumm

    Interesting thank you

  • http://www.facebook.com/claudiu.gabriel/ Claudiu Gabriel

    I like number five :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/lee.sapp.90 Sapp Lee

Number 7 is Beyond Godlike.. I like that…
