Nokia Lumia 920 vs. HTC 8X

Heavyweight showdown

Nokia Lumia 920 comparison

We love a good comparison post here at Nokia Connects, and the post pitching the Nokia Lumia 920 against the HTC 8X from Jay Bennett at Windows Phone Central lives up to our expectations.

Broken down by ’round’, the post covers the standard Design, Hardware, Camera, Audio, Software, Conclusion sections, and Jay covers them all well, giving a winner in each section. UPredictably, the Nokia Lumia 920 wins the camera battle (but only just), and the software beats out the HTC due to Nokia’s ‘app dedication’. Where it doesn’t quite match up to the HTC is in the audio department – Jay reckons the Beats audio just outweighs the quality on the Nokia.

I won’t spoil the review by sharing everything Jay had to say, or which phone he ultimately preferred, but it’s well worth a read. Once you’ve digested all he has to say, share your thoughts with us by dropping a comment below.

The sound is very low and hollow on 920. At 30 sound is ok but its not clear. I have played with the equalizer but its not very good. I tried the HTC 8x and the sound on the phone is incredible. I know the overall phone is better then HTC 8X but mostly on the phone you use music as the major experience when the phone is in your pocket. Nokia should work with JBL on the music software in the phone like Beats ( not a very good standard of sound but good name ) JBL knows music and they should add some credibility to sound

Is there any work being done for a firmware upgrade to the camera’s jpg processing of daytime shots? Many believe that a small bump in saturation, plus increasing sharpness and/or contrast would cure any ail that the camera currently suffers from. It also might help to bring back some of those controls in camera settings like we had on the Lumia 900. Things missing include: Metering Mode, Effects, Contrast, Saturation and Flicker Reduction. To be honest, I don’t really know what that last one does, but I had used ALL of the other settings on my Lumia 900. The 920 won’t even allow black and white during live shooting. (note – you can install 3rd party “Lens” from CamWow to do this)

I am standing in an AT&T store in Portland, ME. The agent here is trying to sell a HTC to a customer by telling him that the HTC is more powerful than the lumia 920. He is telling the customer that HTC is expensive because it is much advanced than the nokia lumia. He even told the customer that the screen on the htc is better than Nokia
the worst thing, customer now wants put $50 more to get the “better” htc phone…

For the kind attention of Mr. Elop & the guys at Nokia!

I love the Lumia 920 & its game changer specs, but it doesn’t beat out the Nokia 808 Pureview (not taking about the 41 MP camera here) on the hardware extras and should have included the following on the Lumia 920:

    1. Nokia Rich Recording

    2. USB on the go.

    3. FM Radio.

    4. FM transmitter.

    5. HDMI out

    6. Micro SD support

    7. Latest Bluetooth 4.0 LE

    8. Audio Quality outmatching the iPhones. (Must have!!!)

    9. Full Audio codec support (for e.g. FLAC)

    10. Full Video codec support & subtitles support (MKV etc.)

    11. Qualcomm S4 Pro Quad core processor (Optional) with latest 320 graphics chipset.

    12. Larger BSI camera sensor (12 MP or 41 MP) with OIS (in future)

As a die hard fan of Nokia phones for the past 15 years, i hope guys at the company will include these latest and greatest features on the next flagship release. So please Nokia, bring every features i mentioned above & all the latest techs on board next time. Hope to see u back as the No.1 Smartphone manufacturer.

I was talked out of the new 920 on two occasions by AT&T reps who knew nothing about the phone. I finally bought one at a third party store and I love everything except the music! I was assured that it included Zune but it does not. Please develope an app for the Zune!

Wanda, try Nokia Music. Also, Xbox music is the “new” Zune. If you want all you can eat music, it is $10 a month or $100 per year. I have had the pass for about 5 years now and its the best music investment possible right now.

As a sales consultant for AT&T I pushthe lumia over the HTC. I’m even about to get one myself. I do admit the sound is much better with the HTC but I tend to use bluetooth speakers when listening to music and the sound quality is a little harder to tell the difference then. I do like the feel of the HTC in my hands a little better than the more sharp and sick feel of the lumia, but the lumia just seems to have mire handy features and better processing capabilities. As a sales consultant I sell to the needs of the person nit the phone or what I like more. if you like music ill tell you about the qualities of beats audio, if music isn’t a big thing for you ill push the lumia instead.
