Build your community: add photos to Nokia Maps

When it comes to exploring a new city, or reliably navigating from A-to-B using turn-by-turn navigation, Nokia Maps is your man. Help make it an even better and richer experience by adding your own photos to Nokia Maps for all to see, right from your Nokia Lumia or at here.com.

  1. Press the Search button on your Nokia Lumia and then tap Vision
  2. Scan the barcode
  3. Tap on the link when it appears on the screen
  4. Install the application from the Windows Phone Marketplace

We rely heavily on sight for just about everything. When you think about a place you visited, either for a night out or a special occasion, you revisit the moment using mental imagery, or by looking at photos you’ve taken.

Maybe you capture the art-deco design of the front of the building, the old smokey atmosphere of a bar, the beautifully presented meal at one of the hottest restaurants in town, or even the misty fog rolling in between the trees of ancient woods. Whatever it is, you can upload it to Nokia Maps so that you can share the experience with others.

Once you arrive at one of your favourite destinations, load up Nokia Maps on your Nokia Lumia smartphone. Search for the venue by pressing the search icon at the bottom and typing in the name of the location. Alternatively, press the places icon in the middle at the bottom of the screen – this will show you all the listed POIs around your current location.

Find your desired location on the screen and tap on it. Initially, you’ll see the about page of that location, showing you the address as well as the opening times and contact details (phone number, email, website) of that venue. You may also see a review from one of the local leading guide companies, if there is one.

Two swipes to the right will take you to the photos page, where you can see any photos that may be associated with the venue. If it’s a popular venue, like a major train station, or museum, chances are you’ll already see some photos in there. Otherwise, if it’s a smaller venue, the photos page will be empty.

Add a photo to a venue Photos added

Tapping on the add a photo button will navigate you to your Pictures gallery, where you can add a photo from there if you’ve already take one. Or, you can take a new one by pressing the camera icon at the bottom. Line up your shot; take the photo and press upload. Done! You’ve just uploaded a photo to Nokia Maps for all to see.

This image will now be viewable across all Nokia Lumia smartphones, and online at here.com.

Now, if you want to add photos from the comfort of your chair while sitting at your computer, log onto here.com. This is useful if you’ve already taken photos and now want to upload them after the event.

Search for the venue using the text-entry box at the top of the page, and select the correct venue from the suggested locations on the left. Selecting the More details option from the location brings up some details about the venue. Again, full address and contact information is available, exactly as it was on your Nokia Lumia smartphone.

By selecting Add photos, you’ll be asked to upload your photo. Find it and upload it.

It’s as simple as that.

While you’re at it, if you’re uploading a photo to a venue you’re particularly fond of, why not tap in a few words into the review section to let everybody know why you like it.

Nokia Maps is available on all Nokia Lumia smartphones, such as the Nokia Lumia 800, Lumia 900, Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, for example.

Download it today and be a part of the community creating truly amazing, locally relevant maps for everyone.

excellent article Adam, I didn’t know about this option to add photos and reviews to places and venues, will do to some local restaurants in my area ;)

Good man, Frankie! I’ve already done the same with my local area, too.

      • Joakim Franzén

I’ll do the same! A question, though: are the photos uploaded to the public immediately, or only after being verified?

          Hi I’m Jere from Nokia,

The uploaded photos go live immediately, however there is an option to flag inappropriate photos.

Thanks, good article! But tell Nokia they should make this option available to all Nokia smartphones, not only WP. This way we all could help to make Nokia Maps even better :)

app could be more intutive and upload to nokia maps directly from share option after taking the picture.

I’ve been adding photos to Ovi/Nokia/Here maps for ages locally, would be great if more folk did it :)

I know this is a slightly old article, but hopefully someone will see this. How can we add new POIs? It’s all very well adding photos to existing landmarks, but what if the place isn’t listed yet? I find Here Maps lacking in POIs in comparison to Google Maps and surely the best way to resolve this would be to allow people to add items themselves, yet this feature is either missing or totally hidden from the WP Maps app.
This should have been available years ago, from Symbian days so that by now Nokia/Navtec would have a much better places database than anyone else.

you can add it on the web, i would like to know how we can add it on the phone too, it is nice option, this helps Nokia too.
