Nokia Paper Challenge

Gather the discarded wrapping paper - create a Nokia - win!

Hot off the heels of the #NokiaCardboardChallenge in which you, our community, astounded us with your creativity, vision and crafting skills, we bring to you…the Nokia Paper Challenge!

The holiday season is a time when we like to give and receive gifts – and what better gift to receive than a brand new Nokia Lumia 820? I’ll tell you what’s better – the fact that we have three to give away to the creators of what we consider to be the best Nokia product (old or new) made from discarded gift wrapping. Of course, if there are no gifts given in your part of the world at this time of year, feel free to use a newspaper, magazine, flyer, pamphlet, or whatever you can lay your hands on in your recycling box. As long as this is the second use of the paper, it’s allowed (no craft paper, plain white paper or the likes).

You heard me right, folks. Why waste all that paper when you could recycle it and create something special? Just like every part the Lumia 820 can be recovered and recycled, so can your wrapping. Just as we create as little as possible from scratch, so can you – by turning discarded paper into creative gold.

You could use the paper for the body of the phone, the tape to hold it together, the gift tag for the screen and the ribbon for a lanyard. Or wherever your creativity takes you. Why not recreate the Lumia 820 you’re trying to win? Or a 3310? Or an N95 8GB?

We will be judging the challenge and awarding the prizes to the most creative, unique and attractive entries. We saw some amazing creations for the Cardboard Challenge, so check out the winners of that to see the kind of thing we have in mind. We are always on the look out for innovation and a different way of looking at things, so credit will be given to originality.

Full Terms and Conditions are available, please take a minute to have a look – we wouldn’t want any of that creativity to go to waste! Any questions, as ever, please leave me a comment and we’ll get back to you as soon as we possibly can. We’ll be a little slower to respond over the festive period, but we’re back to full strength on Wednesday 2nd January – and you have until Monday 7th to submit your entries.

So get ready to harness your creativity whilst also saving the planet – one sheet of wrapping paper at a time…And most importantly, have fun!

Hi everyone! Here is my entry!! I really hope you like it because I’m not into origami, paper craft or anything like that so it was incredibly time consuming for me XD Especially the Snake (which of course should represent the game :D I’ve always been addicted to it!)! And I used 100% leftovers of the wrapping paper I used to embellish the boxes of the presents I’ll give to my family (Some of them are shown in the pictures, so no cheating!). The Nokia I chose to recreate il of course the 3310 which was my first phone ever! The beginning of my Nokia Era ♥ I Just need a Lumia now to be a proud owner of one phone of each Nokia Series! I recreated together with my 9 years old sister my NOKIA N95

Here I am on a Sunday morning walk with my paper Nokia Lumia 920 – 820′s older sister. I am about to take a panoramic picture of Barcelona and then, using Nokia City Lens, choose my next destination for my walking route.

As a designer I tried to represent 2 main features of this phone – Nokia´s amazing, recognisable industrial design and the Windows Phone 8 – a new interesting operating system.
To represent balance of shape and colour I used newspapers (luckily I had a yellow one!) and for the OS part – cutout newspaper and magazines pieces.
It was a very interesting task, as a UI designer I realised I would like to try to design for Windows Phone instead of the usual Android and iPhone, really a new challenge! So thank for that! Crossing fingers to win :)

Here is my Entry for this Challenge! Say hello to Paper Nokia E7.

I have made this entirely with old newspapers and magazines.
The body of the phone is made with old newspaper pieces held together using Wheat-Flour-Glue, and the screen part is made from Magazine photos and stuff. As you can see i have attached a photo showing the progress of my work.

Here is my entry for Nokia Paper Challenge, Its Nokia Lumia 820..

I used a sets of old magazines to make the body and cut-out the middle part for the LCD and Menus, then glued all the sides of the pages to stick together and also to put a additional strength to the paper to make it stand. I also used the cut-outed pages from the magazines and choose the desired colors to make this as the color of the phone housing, then carefully cut-out some small details for the Home screen menus. Im proud to say that this entry is all made from old magazines.. I decided to separate the Homescreen menus on every page of the magazines to put additional dimensions.

Here’s my entry!!A Lumia 820 with a JBL MD-51W speaker.In the photos you can see that I first made a lumia shape cut out from a magazine and then wrapped it up in a paper and just painted it red.For the screen I used a black paper(thank God i had it) and for the tiles I used some cut outs from the magazine.Then i made a JBL MD-51W speaker.For the speaker I first crumpled some newspapers and again I wrapped them in a newspaper and after getting the shape I glued them using a tape (as you can see in the picture).Then I used a gift wrapping paper to give it a color.And after that I colored the top part of the speaker with blue.

Making the speaker was very hard as well as irritating.But above all I enjoyed a lot making this model

Here’s an another entry… i definitely wanted to go as close as possible to the lumia 820, and so here’s my second try.. :))
I built these from gift wrappers, old newspaper, used colored paper (printed at back), magazines and paper cards, and a paper calendar of 2010 and 2011, paint (but i didn’t fully colored the tiles to see the prints of the newspaper XD) …
i wanted to create a Lumia 820, and what will make a Lumia 820 is the WP8 and the innovative Charging Shell! It took me so many trials to create them so here are my 5 paper charging shells, and 1 paper lumia 820…
It was hard to form the curve, from the many tries, i ended up in folding the sides, well it’s still curved! haha…

Here is my entry for nokia paper challenge.

I have tried to make accurate models of nokia lumia

phones and mini speakers md-6.

Specially I have made a lumia 820 having 3d menus,

I thought it will more stylist and in a different way….

I have used recycled paper products.

First I collected some old magazines,news papers,various advertisement papers,

my old college copy covers,calendar (you can see in photos).

I rolled the news papers to make the body of the models .

For windows 8 black borders and yellow color

i used my old copy covers and for blue color I use a calendar.

Then I cut the logos of menu and paste it.

I used squares of various colors to make

windows 8 pattern from old magazines and advertisement papers.

It was a little bit difficult task and time taking,but i enjoyed a lot…

Hope you will like it.I used my brother’s camera to take the photos.

I am using express music 5130 and …

Specially I have made a lumia 820 having 3d menus,
I thought it will more stylist and in a different way….
I have used recycled paper products.
First I collected some old magazines,news papers,various advertisement papers,
my old college copy covers,calendar (you can see in photos).
I rolled the news papers to make the body of the models .
For windows 8 black borders and yellow color
i used my old copy covers and for blue color I use a calendar.
Then I cut the logos of menu and paste it.
I used squares of various colors to make
windows 8 pattern from old magazines and advertisement papers.
It was a little bit difficult task and time taking,but i enjoyed a lot…

Hope you will like it.I used my brother’s camera to take the photos.

Hi, this is my entry: a representation of a Nokia Lumia 800.
I used:
- a calendar’s cardboard for the body, live-tiles, camera (and flash) and lateral buttons;
- gift paper for the display’s background;
- magazine paper for the “image” long tile.
I realized it according real dimensions (12.1 mm x 61.2 mm x 116.5 mm) with curved edges (effect realized overlapping 12 cardboard layers with different dimensions).
I wanted to made it with the Update 7.8 new graphic style, because of its forthcoming release.
The most hard thing to do were details and the hole for the camera, but I am proud of my work and I hope you’ll like it.

Here’s my entry.

It’s a Nokia Lumia Piñata made using one of the cones of a Piñata we broke before Christmas.

Body: I used a piece of a candy box as the main structure, then cut some pieces from the piñata and pasted them to the structure to make it colourful. I cut some pieces from the pink side of the cone to paste them and make the buttons.

Hat: I ripped-off a piece of paper from the inside of the cone and made an origami sombrero. Then, I tried to paint it black, but it absorbed the paint cuz the piñata-makers used recycled-paper.

Tiles: I cut some squares from a gift-wrapping paper and then painted on them the eyes and the moustache. I pasted them over a letter I received to make them thicker.

Piñatas are mostly made with old newspapers and recycled paper, so this is maybe the third use of the paper.

Isn’t it cute??

This is the Nokia N97 with the Spanish keypad (it has Ñ, my language). I used three sheets and the cover of a magazine. I tried to create a 3D model and put Connecting People’s hands. Eventually, the wind came and disarmed the phone but I did it again. I hope you like it.

here i m not only using n recycling waste papers but also advising people about recycling.

Hello :) This is my entry to #NokiaPaperChallenge. I used some newspapers (for internal coverings), lots of recycled thick papers from magazine’s cover pages, shoe box, capsule boxes, nokia box (from my nokia 1630 phone) and many other utilized boxes, glued together to provide thickness and framework for this phone. I also used the gift wrappings from our Exchanging of Gifts last Christmas which I kept for the outside coverings and live tiles, then recycled colored papers (from my school projects which had been checked and returned to us) for the popped-up live tiles. hehehe It was really challenging to create this because it really took me couple of days to think of the concept which can be distinguish from others, . Worth the time and sweat after all :) Enjoy guys and So glad I’ve participated in this competition :D

Hello :) This is my entry to #NokiaPaperChallenge. As required, I used recycled materials in making this Lumia 820 :) Pieces of thick papers from shoe boxes, magazine’s cover pages, capsule/tablet boxes and a Nokia box ( box from my Nokia 1630 phone) glued together to provide thickness and framework on the phone. Some newspapers and magazines for the internal coverings. Then the Christmas wrappers from our Exchanging of Gifts last Christmas which I kept for the outside covering. Some also were used as the pasted live tiles on the screen. The Pop-up/standing live tiles were colored papers from my school projects that were passed, checked and returned to me so I utilized those plain/blank parts of the papers which were unwritten. The rest are cuttings from magazines and newspapers. All are recycled materials. :) Very challenging indeed, it took me couple of days to come up with this pop-up/standing live tiles. i wanted to upload some of the photos of my paper lumia 820, now focusing on some little details. i have photographed it closely to focus on the curves on the edges of the phone, how the paper model’s main phone’s body and shell almost seemingly blend (because i wanted to go as close to the real one), a photo without the charging shell and then a photo of some of the prototype shells i made (coz’ i think they still deserve to be seen, haha)

then new photos of my paper lumia on the music hub/mix radio screen with a “fiery orange” monster purity hd headphones, entitled “Discover Music” (because i recently watched the Mix Radio video about the lumia, and the offline playlist on-the-go, which is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!)

the headphone is made out of newspaper, and the wrapping paper i used on the lumia 820′s charging shell, (well, to complement each other!) everything is held by the glue and adhesive tapes. the lumia is made out of soft and board (from old calendars and magazine covers) papers, newspaper, wrapping paper for the shell.

this challenge is pretty awesome, it almost cleared out a quarter of our paper trash after the holidays, haha… thanks and BTW, Happy New Year!

i am back with my new entry…! This time i’hv made some Nokia Lumia new members(Nokia Lumia 510, Nokia Lumia 820 and Nokia Lumia 920) and i’hv also made Nokia DT-900 Wireless Charger…! It was little harder to make these models but it was fun…!
i’hv used only Paper Products(magazines, nokia brochures) to make these models. i’hv used Ball Point Pen & Sketch Pens to make Nokia Lumia Display Screen & keys.
i’hv also uploaded a pic of my Lumia 920 with a Sim card(original SIM) to show the size of Lumia model that i’hv made..,

Here is my entry for the Nokia paper challenge.

I have made Nokia lumia 920 with fatboy charging pillow and a Nokia purity headphone by Monster. I have made live Gift Box tiles. Open gift box to see back side of live tile! :)

All things are made using recycled items, Phone body is made using news paper and gift box are made using magazine paper, than it has been wrapped with gift wraps.. Charging pillow and head phone are also made using newspaper. No plain paper or cardboard is used!!!

I had lots of fun making this paper model :)

This is my entry.
I turned the door of my room into Lumia 820 using 100% used paper. The base is made of old newspapers. The upper layer is made out of old magazines and newspapers. I cut the magazines in small pieces and sorted them by colours. The size of this Lumia 820 is approx. 95x215cm. For the email icon I used an old envelope and for the facebook icons I made collages of cut-outs of old magazines. If you look closely, you can see that I even created the side buttons on the side of the door.

I will also upload it on Twitter and maybe add some additional pictures in better quality.

Hi, this is my entry. My first phone Nokia 3310.
The body of the phone is made of a pile of newspaper wrapped in christmas paper I saved from my christmas present. The buttons and the frame is made of shredded newspaper. I used water and immersion blender to do that. Last I added the logo, the screen and some details.

Here we are, this is my entry!

I wondered about the way to synthesize recycling paper or similar with the spirit of Christmas and festivities: and the answer was in these famous Italian pralines, tons of which we love to consume during Christmas days in Italy!

My Nokia Lumia 920 is entirely made of pralines’ wrapping paper, gold instead of yellow and dark brown instead of black.

Part of this wrapping paper is kind of metal, which I think could be consider to be recycled for the next body of a brand new Nokia mobile phone.

I wondered about the way to synthesize recycling paper or similar with the spirit of Christmas and festivities: and the answer was in these famous Italian pralines, tons of which we love to consume during Christmas days in Italy!

My Nokia Lumia 920 is entirely made of pralines’ wrapping paper, gold instead of yellow and dark brown instead of black.

Part of this wrapping paper is kind of metal, which I think could be consider to be recycled for the next body of a brand new Nokia mobile phone.

Hi! Here’s an another entry, i just made these today and it was fun and tricky :)
i made a paper Lumia 620. [[ constructed from newspapers, magazines, colored and used papers, wrapping papers, tape, glue, invitation paper cards, old calendars. ]]

this time i was only able to make two shells, one with the fiery-orange wrapper (to match the purity headphones by monster x nokia) and my imitation of a dual shot shell, lime green.
again same as (lumia 820) it’s interchangeable, its recyclable, and booming with color plus easier to curve the curves!! :)

the dual shot (lime green) was a bit tricky to make, because i do not know any transparent paper, i just used colored papers, and tried to mimic the cyan x yellow forming the green, (i photographed it closely, so that can see how i mimicked the cyan/blue + yellow = green) there’s also a back shot, i lifted it’s battery.

then lastly i wanted to feature the Nokia City Lens, luckily there’s a good landscape in the newspaper, Manhattan City + Brooklyn Bridge, i wanted it to go through the screen and scream out CITY LENS! haha, that’s all, always fun!

  To make this project, I used the front cover of a magazine as the body of my phone. I cut-out magazine pages and turn them to small pieces, then pasted them to form the color and outer covering of my phone. Hope you like it :)

Hey. Here is my entry. I am so excited about the up coming of Nokia lumia 620 this lately so, I got an idea to try and make it happen in this competition. Everything that I used to make this lumia 620 was all recycled papers. First, I’m using the old newspapers which I put them together as the main body and shape for the phone. Then, I wrapped all the entire newspaper which already been cut into the shape and body for the
phone with the recycled wrapping paper and a magazine picture on it as the wallpaper. I also had to cut a paper to make some letters for the wallpaper and the nokia brand as you can see..- to make it more like the phone itself but it’s totally difficult cause the letters are so tiny. I found it’s a bit tough to make as perfect as the lumia 620 since there’s curve edges but yeah.., It was so much fun!. So, I hope you guys like it and thanks for this opportunity.

I made this with the technique of paper pulp. By making the dough from old newspapers (which have been soaked for 3 days) mixed with white glue, then formed into a Lumia 920.

Home-made Nokia Lumia 920
(PS: I used my brother’s Nokia N70 for taking these pictures and some on my very low end phone. And shot evening.
I will try to find a better Camera tommorow + daylight, cause I know the best of my work didn’t show in this quality. =)
(I will upload more clearer pictures so you will surely appreciate my Home-made Lumia 920 :)

I love every details of Lumia 920 so I really did my best to achieve each details finely as much as I can.
Since I haven’t seen any Lumia yet, I only searched its actual size. Then I cut news papers into a Lumia 920 size, then glued them one by one until I get the actual thickness of a Lumia 920. Let it dried, and I got a very solid Lumia 920.
I cut old Magazines to make different covers and screens.
After a week of working I finally saw a Lumia 920 for the first time :)
It really looks like one and feels like one.
It’s beautiful really.
just the mobile camera tortured it. :D

HI! This is my nokia 701!!! He is made fully of magazines, cardboard and wrapping paper, including the Angry Birds and widgets, fully recyclable!

I spent a lot of time doing it, about 12 hours (split into 4 days). It seems so easy, but the Angry Birds took me a long time, more than the nokia 701. The phone was made of cardboard, and was modeled with glue. The screen was consisted of magazine clippings, every part of it (the wallpaper, widgets and menu bar). And some parts were outlined with colored pens. well, i hope you like it!!! detail: I’m from Brazil!

It was extremely time consuming to make these things…but I really enjoyed doing it !! :D

Blue reflection of the phone screen comes from pc monitor displaying Nokia Conversations website. Nice bluish effect. Shiny gift wrapping and tape over black paper look like real glass screen.
Then used blue LED to highlight some spots on white backgound. Hope you like it.

Here is my entry for #NokiaPaperChallenge with a Happy New Year :-)
So they thought its Dooms Day…World is going to end by 2012 and they arrived in a spaceship…Voila!!! By the end of 2012, its a new family of Nokia Lumia waiting here to surprise them with great new features. Christmas came with a lot of gifts, bringing in the complete family of Nokia Lumia with it.

All objects here are made of gifts received during Christmas. Magazine paper and card board box is also used for the phones.

They tried to see it from every angle… from Mars… from Jupiter… Were simply amazed with the Nokia Lumia beauty…

This is my entry for the Nokia paper challenge.

The idea behind this creation was to make it in a way that it can be reused just like every part of lumia 820 can be recycled.. This phone is made such that it can be given as a card later on to a lumia fan.

The phone is made of leftover scraps of gift wrapping sheets, tape and cuttings from my collection of the Reader’s Digest.

The thing i most love about the lumia 820 is the exchangeable back covers so I simply had to incorporate this into my paper lumia 820. I attached (shown in the pictures) different colour wrapping in a way that they can be folded onto one another and hence the result is exchangeable back covers( it did take a lot of experimenting to get it right!!).

The back of the gift wrapping will be used for personal messages when the phone will be given as a card.

The home screen can be flipped upwards to go to photos which can be flipped upwards to go to the messaging page,

I had a lot of fun making this paper lumia 820 and hopefullly my idea and effort will be enough to get me an original version of the phone! :)

Balcony terraces in white made from 2012 desktop calendar pages replicate the N95′s beautiful curvaceous form. The red ‘windows’ tile cluster is made from the red pages of a motor-sport glossy. The main body of the Nokia building is made from an old black book-post envelope. An 820 silhouette acts as the white window frame around the red cluster of 3D ‘Tiles’.

Hi guys, this is my entry! :)

I thought it could’ve been cool to create a funny story with our beloved nokia mobiles, both old and new.
What inspired me was the Nokia 3310, which back in 2003 was the first mobile that i have ever owned, and today after all those years works as fine as it used to!
In particular you can see the Nokia 3310 that after a party at the club fell from the top of a skyscraper, but despite the worried faces of nokia 3510i, N81, Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 he is completely fine!!!! Unfortunately we can’t say the same of the sidewalk… :)

to create the scene and the mobiles i used different kind of paper, gift paper and wrapping paper thai i found at my house!

Hello everyone..!!!

This is my Gold edition Nokia Lumia 820 with changeable tiles, multiple covers plus a charging pad. This has been made with Ferrero Rocher Chocolate wrappers for the gold and silver cover, newspapers for the phone body and magazines for the charging pad and black border around the phone and the pamplets for the cutting icons. And the red and brown golden cover using gift papers.
I had been trying uploading pics since the last two days and finally got them uploaded. please consider my entry also for this challenge.
