10 reasons why the Nokia Lumia 620 is a great business smartphone

Published by Boc Ly on December 18, 2012

If your organisation is looking for an outstanding business smartphone then they need look no further than the Nokia Lumia 620.

The latest addition to Nokia’s Lumia smartphone family has a great combination of good looks and great hardware, and it’s powered by the Windows Phone 8 operating system, which is perfect for all your work needs – not to mention your personal and social ones!

Fast and easy to use, the Lumia 620 will show your latest emails, news, documents and people updates as soon as they happen with the innovative Live Tiles on your Start screen.

If you still need convincing, here are 10 reasons why the Nokia Lumia 620 is a great smartphone for business.

Nokia Lumia 620

1.     Seamless synchronisation across Windows devices and services

Your Lumia 620 offers seamless integration with your Windows PC and existing IT infrastructure.

As the vast majority of businesses use Microsoft software, such as Microsoft Exchange, Office, Lync and SharePoint, your Lumia 620 will sync perfectly with the work you are doing on your Windows PC.

For example, all your office contacts, emails and calendar appointments from Outlook will be updated instantly on your Lumia 620 – exactly as it is on your PC.

It’s all extremely easy to set up – sign in with your username and login and then you’re ready to go. Everything works together and makes your life easier.

2.     Business Tools

Microsoft Office

The Nokia Lumia 620 comes with mobile versions of all Microsoft’s popular desktop tools – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and SharePoint. It’s all ready to go straight out of the box.

The benefits are immense – you’ll be able to work on the same documents on your PC and your Lumia smartphone with full synchronisation between the two. If you’re editing a document on your PC, those changes will appear when you look at the same document on your Lumia 620, and vice versa.

3.     Security

Ensuring that your emails, contacts and documents are secure is of vital importance. Your Lumia smartphone has a range of essential security measures that meets the most stringent IT requirements.

It has hardware accelerated encryption, remote locking and wipe, safer web browsing and protection measures to prevent you from downloading malicious applications. With device management support, IT departments can remotely secure and manage entire fleet of Nokia Lumia devices.

Don’t take our word for it – the experts also agree:

“Windows Phone is safe, we’ve seen no malware at all targeting the platform. You want a safe phone? Buy a Windows Phone,” –Mikko Hyppönen, Security Chief, F-Secure.

4.     Navigation and Location-based apps

Travelling is a fact of modern working life, so you’ll need the best navigation tools on your smartphone. Nokia’s HERE location platform is so good that it powers all Windows Phone devices – not just our own!

In addition to maps, which can work offline, you can get turn-by-turn navigation with Nokia Drive, find your way around public transport with Nokia Transit and look for nearby points of interest with the augmented reality app, Nokia City Lens.

So, even if you‘re in an unfamiliar city, your Lumia will help you find where you need to go. You’ll never be late for another meeting again!

5.     Nokia Expert Centre

By choosing Nokia Lumia, your company can keep the total cost of ownership (TCO) to an absolute minimum. Unlike some of our competitors, there are no additional license fees to be paid for back-end services you already have invested in.

In fact, we offer a free service called the Nokia Expert Centre, which offers IT departments and advanced users, support and advice on Nokia products and business solutions.

Find out more about Nokia Expert Centre here and to take advantage of this helpful resource, go to the Nokia Expert Centre homepage and click ‘register.’

6.     People & Messaging

Communication and staying in touch with your colleagues is extremely important to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Your Lumia 620 is set up specifically to put your contacts at the centre of the smartphone experience.

The People Hub lets you manage your messages and contacts with minimum effort. You can also create groups so that you can send emails or instant messages to a particular group all at once.

If real time communication is what you need, there’s also Microsoft Lync Mobile, so you can see if people are online, message them, show other people your status and join in with group chats.

With further options such as Skype, Viber, WhatsApp and many others, there are always plenty of ways for you to get your message across with the Lumia 620.

7.     Apps on Windows Phone

Underlining the Nokia Lumia 620’s fantastic suitability for work and for getting your office tasks done is the fast growing ecosystem of Windows Phone apps. These can help you to stay informed and to stay in touch.

CNN, Bloomberg and LinkedIn are all useful apps for busy professionals. Plus, if you just want a bit of fun there are plenty apps to entertain you, such as Nokia Music or Netflix, not to mention the hundreds of games that you can download.

8.     Collaboration and Storage

As I mentioned earlier, the Lumia 620 works seamlessly with Microsoft products. You can collaborate on documents with colleagues and save and access them via SharePoint directly from your smartphone.

The Lumia 620 comes with 8GB internal memory and Micro SD support up to 64GB. That’s a lot of space already, but there’s also cloud storage 7GB for free on SkyDrive. Once again, you’ll be able to access your SkyDrive documents or images from your smartphone or any computer with an Internet connection.

Nokia Lumia 620

9.     World-class design and materials

OK, it sounds superficial but isn’t it good to have a smartphone that looks great and one that has been designed and manufactured with a lot of love and care? That’s the Nokia Lumia 620.

It’s been made with a Dual Shot approach, which means it has two layers of premium polycarbonate, to give a transparency and depth to its bold and wide range of colours. Just because you’re using a work phone doesn’t mean it has to be boring!

It’s also worth noting the signature durability of Nokia smartphones here. There’s no way you’re going to be cut off from work because a minor accident wrecked your phone. And the employers who provision the phones will have fewer returns and less downtime to worry about.

10.  Price

I haven’t even mentioned the camera with its digital lenses, such as Smart Shoot and Cinemagraph, the 3.8-inch display, which has the same sunlight readability enhancements as the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820, or even the exchangeable shells.

The Nokia Lumia 620, with Windows Phone 8, is an attractive proposition because of all of the above, and all the other reasons listed. But here’s the thing: At around $249 USD it is also extremely good value for money.

At this price point, with its great security, communication and productivity features and its unique ability to synchronise seamlessly with your desktop tools, the Lumia 620 is shaping up as a real business leader.

While much of the press focuses on the Lumia 920, there are in fact many Lumia models that can be very good phones for the professional. I have a Lumia 810 myself (retired a Blackberry) and have been very pleased with how well it works with all our Microsoft applications, Office365, Outlook, Dynamics CRM, SharePoint, and of course the ever trusty Lync.

Can this phone view and/or edit PDF files?

I will be renting out houses soon and accessing scanned in leases, which would be noneditable PDF’s, would be a huge plus. Also, it’d be nice to be able to start eviction notices, which are provided by my states website in only PDF formats, when a tenant decides not to pay their rent or something.

    Just let me know, thanks.

hey every one ..do you know that none of the WP 8 support FM Radio … this is a drawback in WP 8 which was not there in WP 7.5. nokia lumia 620 doesn’t have FM radio.. which is very sad and disapointing..

      • Jam

Dint knew. That does not stop me buying a WP8 Phone anyway… ;)

    • kangsongdaeguk

Yes, it can view. Just install the app “PDF Reader”. Edit, nah.

I am very happy that Nokia is regaining it’s market through Lumia. But still Nokia is lagging a bit. I am agreeing about what is inscribed above and I am very happy for that.
But Nokia has to look the other side of the world which is majorly concentrating on various kinds of apps which makes some undeserved idiots(Samsung) to capture the smart phone market.
It was very horrible to pocket a Samsung phone if we go back some years from now and it was funny having a phone in hand other than Nokia. But now they are competing with us and this change is majorly due to the entry of app world and its influence on each and every one.
Seriously I have seen so many of friends who are using phones other than Nokia just because of this, even though they really don’t want to use them. So please do concentrate on applications and if you do so we the Nokia will rule the mobile world.

My wish is to see Nokia as a leader but not follower

  • Shankar Prasad

Windows OS is lagging apps, it has very less free apps how far do you think is possible that every one like to buy the apps from market place. The reason why apple and android phones are popular is not that they have something more, only the apps are leading them. They are nothing without apps. Please focus on this point and very soon we ll break their necks.

    • Russell

I agree with you to an extent. The majority of applications on Android Market place and the Apple store are clone applications. You’ve 30 apps that can do the same thing and most of them are low quality.

I will like Windows phone to be different. If Windows Phone has fewer applications that are highly optimized for the platform (in line with windows design aesthetics, security requirements. etc) and are productive then that will be great.

I think work needs to be done and speed up on getting popular applications (and games) like Opera mini, VLC, etc. or providing alternatives with better functionality to the platform.

For most people it’s the quality not quantity of these applications that matter.

      • Jam

Very true Russell.. The quantity of apps should not matter, while you have the best and optimized applications on Windows Phones. The developers now know whats the next big thing and i’m sure they are working hard to release the apps.;)

  • jj yadnula

  • spartan

  • da

  • Omkar Chavan

    Nice work by nokia…..!!!

  • Jam

I’m eagerly waiting for this device and i don’t see any alternative at all for this in market, except for the Lumia (620/800) itself. Happy that Nokia is back with a bang. Wish Nokia a great success and keep up the good work. I know there are thousands of shitty apps which can never beat the apps developed by Nokia.

    All the best!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/pedro.miranda.1042032 Pedro Miranda

Is Skype integrated into the OS in the same way it is for the 820 and 920 or is it a standalone app like in Windows phone 7? The reason why I ask this is because the phone only has 512Mb of RAM. Thanks. In any case, great move from Nokia.

  • srikant pratap singh

Wat is d performance of windows 8…

  • kangsongdaeguk

I own one – and only significant let down – battery life. You have to charge daily if you also use the smart phone features.
