Best Nokia phones of 2012

Published by Tom Hall on January 3, 2013

Nokia Lumia 920, 900 and 808 PureView

Time now to take a look back at the year just gone and reveal what we feel were the best Nokia phones of 2012. Those that have broken new ground, delivered innovations that exposed us to exciting features and that made being involved in the Nokia ecosystem a properly stimulating place to be!

Nokia Lumia 900

Nokia Lumia 900

The Nokia Lumia 900 was released in the first half of the year, and introduced the next stage of Nokia’s Lumia hardware (following the Nokia Lumia 800) and took the Windows Phone platform to the next level due to the ‘larger screen, faster processor and support for the fastest mobile data transfers available to date’. It was due to these factors and others that around about this time last year the Lumia 900 won ‘Best Phone of CES 2012′.

Nokia Lumia 920

The Nokia Lumia 920 packs such a punch that it’s been dubbed the ‘world’s most innovative smartphone’. As well you know, it’s a multi-award winning phone and takes the Lumia platform one step further. Windows Phone 8 allows more personalisation, more apps are available and the hardware is equally as impressive.

Nokia 808 PureView

For those who are partial to taking the odd photograph on their phone, the Nokia 808 PureView was just what they were looking for. Embraced by one and all as being a 41 megapixel ‘powerhouse’ (and cleaning up at Mobile World Congress winning Best of Show), and for some truly magnificent examples of what it is capable of, look no further than the PureView Club:

The $64,000 question is…do you agree with our choices? Are there any phones from 2012 you’d add to the list? Are you an avid Asha user and think a phone from that family should have made the grade? Let us know, start the debate by leaving a comment, and see what everyone else thinks.

For $64.000 I gladly agree with these choices! :-) You might have mentioned the Nokia Lumia 820 as well, by the way…

Thank you so much for mentioning the PureViewclub once more, you’re such a terrific help!

I agree. And I’m glad you mentioned the Lumia 900. It’s rather… forgotten nowadays.

  • http://www.facebook.com/fernandohual David Huaman

Just like me a lot of people love the nokia 808 pure view and is not only because of the camera is also because of the OS, symbian has always been a great OS and many people agree with me when I say that it is better than WP8 and it can figth Android. Nokia just need to put more attention on it and develop more apps for it and make more phone with Symbian OS. Don’t let this amazins OS die, Why focus on a new and not so cool OS like WP8 when you have the amazing Symbian OS that have been there since 2000, please think about it.
    Thank you

100% agreed! I’m holding on to my Symbian phone for as long as it will survive. Been trying to find a replacement, but it looks like since Nokia dropped Symbian I will have to drop Nokia. Real sorry to do so too, but it seems inevitable.

      • http://www.facebook.com/hisham.ahmed.9619 Hisham Ahmed

And switch to? Now that’s the $64000 question.

        • http://twitter.com/alfydunhill alfred msungama

          nokia N9 or JOLLA

          • http://www.facebook.com/hisham.ahmed.9619 Hisham Ahmed

hmmm….I was gonna go for that phone, but my uncle who had that phone told me it froze several times in a day. Do all open-source OSes behave that way?

          • http://twitter.com/alfydunhill alfred msungama

if that is true, then his had a defect. I have had my N9 for 8 months now bro, and it hasnt skipped a beat ever. I highly recommend it to you, you will LOVE IT. its the only piece of tech Ive ever grown fond of. if anything happened to my N9, i would get another one.

          • Akuma

What color is the best ? :D

          • http://twitter.com/alfydunhill alfred msungama

the black one is coolest, because you cant see the border between the screen and the body, it looks like the whole front is just screen :D

          • Akuma

black is nice and professional..personally i like the white its shiny ;)
i wish it had more like on the lumia they getting in red and yellow…!

        • http://www.facebook.com/michelle.pereira.771 Michèlle Pereira

That’s what I am looking in to. I want a C6-00 but it is quite hard to get here. Think I’m going to end up with a chinese knock off. Too bad you can’t just install any OS you want, like with computers. I’d get anything and install Symbian and be as happy as ever.

          • http://www.facebook.com/hisham.ahmed.9619 Hisham Ahmed

            I think i have a C6-00 here somewhere at home……

      • http://twitter.com/alfydunhill alfred msungama

dude, get a Nokia N9 it is thebest thing Nokia ever produced! get one, you will love it.

        • http://www.facebook.com/michelle.pereira.771 Michèlle Pereira

Will take a look at it, thx for the suggestion.

          • http://twitter.com/alfydunhill alfred msungama

trust me, you cannot go wrong with N9 :) if you dont like it (impossible) then I would suggest lumia 920

        • TechInsane

get an 808 too, so you have Symbian and Meego lol.

      • TechInsane

I agree, I still have my N97 and I cannot let it go, just like my 808.

    • TechInsane

Well said, from a proud owner of the 808.

      • Akuma

yeah!! I like the 808!! it has lots to offer!! only wish the case could have been different (more like E7 or N8)!

        • TechInsane

Yeah, I currently still use my old win Phone 7.5 once in a while, the one feature I wish I had with the 808 was the voice activated texting, I can do that on my window phone without even lifting the thing, yet alone typing. The 808 has voice commands but not as good as they should be, plus the browser on the 808 is really bad (Nokia Browser and Opera 12). I go to certain sites and the browser struggles, really struggles. Lack of the Nokia city lens/ Live view is something I wish they will fix for us Symbian lovers, it only worked twice on my phone but the application is the best thing Nokia has produced in regards to Apps in a very very long time.

          • steelicon

For Nokia Web browser : In sites which does not require Java, disable Java in settings, Also disable Flash. This will accelerate your browsing experience. When you need both, just turn them on again.

For voice activated texting, use the built in Vlingo, it can send text through voice. Enable your data connection first.

Nokia City Lens / Live View is available. Google for it. When you launch City Lens, tap the end button once. City Lens will now launch with no errors.

Development will matter to you mate…but the majority will still believe it to be an un-developed one. Nokia can try to build a better os but can’t change people’s mindset Android and iOS have deviated people’s mind to a single crap UI no body cares what Nokia has done for them or will continue to do. Who else give you unmatched service for free. Apple charges a huge amount even Google play store has most of the game for a specific price. The switch from Symbian to Windows Phone was meant to make the world feel that Nokia still has the freshness in its devices.

      • xoj_21

N9 mármol was fresher and more innovative., windows phone restarts way too much

        • author_neel

Meego was fresh….but how many of us knew about it at that time…the only reason behind why it wasn’t introduce in countries like india, china, is its popularity…nokia was going through a tough time..and introducing new os will mean complete darkness…win pho was a restart but it gave nokia a support, microsft support. Microsoft’s win pho was being used for a long time …however most of us didn’t use them but look we knew about that. Even app development was quite tough…building an ecosystem is important for an OS and that was seriously lacking with Meego. When Nokia broyght its first, lumia 800, win pho already had 80k + app on board. The ecosystem was there… And is getting developed at a pretty fast rate .

          • http://twitter.com/alfydunhill alfred msungama

meego was the best thing ever

Lumia 820 0fcouse. It has got amazing feel in hand. Light and solid, its the right size, right shape for a smartphone. With exchangable shells and SD card, this phone is just incredible.

  • ZuLuuuuuu

I like budget phones, my vote goes to Nokia 603. Released in late 2011 but I bought it this year. The only thing missing was camera flash. Good to hear it is fixed with Lumia 620.

Also honorable mention goes to Nokia N9. Also released in 2011, but I met with it in 2012 (and using it for 3 months). And it is the basis of a lot of industrial and UX design today. A phone really ahead of its time.

    • http://www.facebook.com/andrea.kilin Andrea Noémi Kilin

I just bought it for Xmas and I am so happy with it, although it’s a 2011 phone, i think it fits well in 2013 still :) first phone Nokia, last one will surely be a Nokia

      • http://www.canol.info/ Canol Gökel

Surely it fits to 2013, it was so beautiful that Nokia still uses the same case design with Lumia 920. I think everyone should use N9 for at least once in their lifetime. It broadens your imagination.

        • Akuma

Totally Agree ;) every single nokia fan!

I wished I could have tried out the Nokia 808…but it’s hard to find one. Despite being a 2011 phone, my 2012 mobile phone experienced was dominated by Nokia N9. Thanks to that phone I finally could move away from iPhone and experience what a true smartphone is.

Never before a phone convinced me so much and never before I still liked a phone so much after a year of usage. Still now, I’m happy that my phone can do things, iPhone, Windows Phone and sometimes even Android phone users dream of – happy I could help them out several times with my N9 :)

The N9 is not a gameboy (like iPhone…), it’s a smart working tool – ahead of it’s time. Looking forward to similar phones like Jolla Sailfish and maybe the announced Ubuntu phone. Goodbye “featurephones” à la iPhones & WP & thanks Nokia to create something other companies couldn’t.

thanks nokia to dump it :P

    • http://twitter.com/NMojovic Nikola Mojovic

Consider BB10 also it’s based on QNX branch of UNIX, its very powefull and have some UX similarities with MeeGo :)

      • http://twitter.com/alfydunhill alfred msungama

but BB10 will come on a blackberry, so, shit hardware: no camera, no memory, no ram…etc

        • http://twitter.com/Tams80 Tams80

One model will probably not have a camera; for security reasons. The flagship certainly will and although it may not be great, it’ll not be hard for it to be like the N9′s camera (rather medicore).

As for no RAM… sorry, my sarcasm detector is broken.

  • http://www.gadjade.com/ Jade Bryan V. Jardinico

The Lumia 900 should not be in the list, I guess? I think the Asha 311 should be on it. It’s a great affordable feature/smartphone. 1GHz cpu and capacitive touch screen in a $120 is a market disruption.

  • http://www.facebook.com/michelle.pereira.771 Michèlle Pereira

Do not agree at all. Nokia has completely abandoned loyal customers who have been with them for 10-15 years by forcing touch screen technology upon them.

I also agree with David that it’s truly sad to let go of such a great OS as Symbian. Reliable, stable, fast. Why have you strayed from the path of success?

It’s a real shame that a brand that was so creative and offered their customers so many cool options, such great phones decided to go down the Apple road and their one single boring model. What a drastic fall in creativity. What a horrible way to make your customers all the same flock of sheep. Too bad Nokia, my love affair with you was a great one, but I guess they are right when they say all good things must come to an end.

    • http://www.facebook.com/michelle.pereira.771 Michèlle Pereira

Not to mention phones for all pocket sizes

    • http://twitter.com/Tams80 Tams80

It’s not that surprising that Nokia’s WP numbers aren’t making up for the loss in Symbian and Maemo/Meego numbers due to no new devices being released with them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/juned.malek Juned Malek

why Nokia Lumia 920 so late in India? its already 4 months late & yet its not launch in India

    • xoj_21

No demand for it they don’t buy it

      • author_neel

who says Indian are not demanding Lumia 920 ?? eh?

  • steelicon

Symbian the “dead” mobile OS managed to outperform the “new” Lumia in terms of sales. While other phones are going 12MP and up, 41MP cannot be beaten right now, the Lumia series launches with 8MP. Funny.

    • http://www.facebook.com/adam.duusboolsen Adam Christoffer Duus-Boolsen

While I agree that the 808 beats everything else, the 8,7 mp of the Lumia 920 is perfectly adequate for everyday use, and the quality of the hardware and software means that the 920 takes way better pictures than any 12 mp phone on the market…

      • steelicon

Funny that you should mention 12MP cameraphone on the market. Nokia N8 can run circles around Microsoft Lumia 920 in terms of image quality and overall usability for photography as well as functionality as a REAL smartphone with REAL multitasking, not some freeze pseudo iOS-like Asha-featurephone-S40 multitasking.

        And I quote:

“Camera phone head to head: Nokia N8 vs Lumia 920

Published by Steve Litchfield at 15:51 UTC, November 29th 2012

If there’s one comparison I keep getting asked for, it’s putting the cameras of the Nokia N8 and Lumia 920 up against each other. And for good reason – the N8 is now two years old and those on contracts, in particular, are wondering if now is the time to jump from the End Of Life Symbian to the latest Windows Phone 8, buoyed up by the hope of ‘PureView’ photos from the 920′s camera. Here, then, is a blow by blow real world photo shootout between the two phones, aided by a rough and ready scoring system, just to try and keep things objective.”

        And in conclusion:

        “In summary

Adding up the points above (out of 90), we have the Nokia N8 with 73 and the Lumia 920 with 69, so a win for the older, Symbian-powered imaging smartphone, but by a narrower margin than I’d have thought, based on the raw specifications.

Now, I’d taken a wide range of subjects and conditions but there are two other things to bear in mind, which are somewhat at odds with each other but well worth emphasising:

If the user takes a lot of indoor photos of people then the N8 would score better as the Xenon flash would light moving subjects better

If the user is not an experienced, careful camera phone user (like me) then there’s a fair chance that many shots would be affected by camera shake and here the OIS in the Lumia 920 would help enormously.

In addition, there are two extra factors which add weight to the Lumia 920′s claim for a win here:

flexibility in what to do with photos – Windows Phone 8 (despite some of its other failings) is pretty good at letting you share images online or send them on to contacts. In contrast, sharing is slightly clunky on Symbian unless you really know what you’re doing or are prepared to slum it with Nokia Social.

the size, brightness and conrast of the Lumia 920′s display, for looking at what you just captured, knock spots off the first gen AMOLED screen on the N8 (which doesn’t even have CBD tech, remember, with the hardware dating from early 2010)”

Please do see photo comparison : To the left, the 2010 Nokia N8, to the right, the 2013 Microsoft Lumia 920.

Still being beaten by a 2 year old Nokia cameraphone. :)

        • Akuma

I like the review the N8 cam is awesome! but try the lumia 920 in a overall use..and with the market growing up for WP, i don’t recommend to get N8! i had one enjoyed it.. but it also had bugs, freezes.. even after the updates! unless you get it for less then 200usd it would compensate!

          • steelicon

Case in point : The Nokia N8 is the world’s second best cameraphone. The best cameraphone and the best convergent device (all-in-one-multimedia / smartphone / mobile computer) would be the Nokia 808 PureView.

Get the Nokia 808 PureView instead of the Microsoft version of Nokia. That is true NOKIA INNOVATION!

      • Akuma

agree! if you getting lumia.. just go for the 920! the most powerful out there!!

        • steelicon

PureView shootout: Nokia 808 vs Nokia Lumia 920

Published by Rafe Blandford, Steve Litchfield at 19:15 UTC, November 1st 2012

The big question, the thing everyone (around here) wants to know. How does the Nokia PureView ‘phase 2′ camera in the Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia 920 compare to that in the ‘phase 1′ camera unit in the Symbian-powered Nokia 808? In the seven comparisons below, Rafe and I try to answer the question, and throw in comparisons with the Lumia 900 and HTC One X camera at the same time, where appropriate. This feature represents our ‘first look’ at the 920 hardware – there will be formal review parts coming your way very shortly, including a broader look at its camera in all modes and settings.”

          Conclusion

Scores aren’t everything, though for anyone totting them up during the piece, the totals (each out of 70) are:

          Nokia 808 PureView 61 pts

          Nokia Lumia 920 PureView 57pts

          HTC One X 34 pts

          Nokia Lumia 900 28 pts

We’ll obviously have a lot more on the Lumia 920′s camera as part of our formal review coverage on All About Windows Phone, but I’m already able to come to a few conclusions:

In terms of all round still photography, the 1/1.2″-sensored Nokia 808 PureView, running Symbian, is still the best camera phone in the world – by a small margin. Though add in real world shots of people indoors and at events, where the Xenon flash freezes motion so much better, and the 808 draws further ahead.

Given the constraints on phone thickness, the camera in the new 1/3″-sensored Lumia 920 PureView does astonishingly well with the benefit of the OIS. With a sensor that’s barely bigger than that in the Android and iOS competition, it produces shots that are often close to the 808′s and occasionally better. Given that the humped Nokia 808, running a smartphone OS which is now facing an End Of Life, isn’t for everybody, the sleek Lumia 920 running a 2013 operating system may well be the better option for users who love taking photos. The next-gen LED flash does need more testing and, as with all LED-equipped phones, there will still be issues in low light when shooting people. Watch this space for real world pub tests!

Even used with care, photos from the likes of the 1/3.2″-sensored HTC One X (and, by inference, the iPhone 4S/5 and SGS III) are almost always going to be inferior to those from the similarly sized Lumia 920 – the optical image stablisation did well here – it’ll do even better in terms of difference in quality when used by novice users.

The previous generation of 1/3.2″ camera units used by Nokia, even with Carl Zeiss optics, are worlds apart from the 920′s camera. Worlds. Partly down to the previous Windows Phone 7 software, partly the average hardware, partly the lack of OIS.

A side issue, for AAS readers, is whether the two year old 1/1.8″-sensored Nokia N8 has a better camera than the Lumia 920. The physicist in me says yes, but the OIS on the latter would make it a very close match to call. One for me to test another day!

And so it’s on to our review coverage of the Nokia Lumia 920, running Windows Phone 8. Rafe’s up first, with an overview of the hardware and software – I’ll be testing the stills camera in real life and seeing what a difference OIS makes to video footage in one of the review parts, all coming in the next few weeks.

PureView shootout, round two: Nokia 808 vs Nokia Lumia 920 with PR1.1

Published by Steve Litchfield at 21:48 UTC, December 29th 2012

In our previous head to head shootout between the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Symbian-powered Nokia 808 PureView, concentrating perhaps more on static, lower light situations, the newer 920 just failed to pip the larger-sensored 808 to the crown. Since then, there has been some justified criticism of the 920′s image processing for bright daylight scenes – now fixed for many people across the globe with the PR1.1 update (firmware starting 1232.5951…), which dials back the noise reduction and also fixes some messaging and Wi-fi issues. With the camera fix in place though, I headed out on a winter’s day and put Nokia’s latest Lumia 920 fix to the ultimate test…”

“Regular readers of my Xenon rants won’t be surprised to see, even though I was snapped while talking (and thus moving slightly), that the detail and clarity in the 808′s image is far superior. The 920′s image isn’t as crisp and is oddly over-exposed.

          _______

Eight test shots then, with the 920′s new PR1.1 firmware. Six of the tests were won by the Nokia 808, arguably, with one to the 920 and one debatable draw. But again I should emphasise a few things:

the 808 does very well in my hands – give it to an average person and they’d struggle with keeping it still, especially if using the shutter button. In contrast, the OIS in the 920 should give better results for these less experienced users.

that the Lumia 920, even with the image processing issue fixed in this software, can’t match the Nokia 808 most of the time, isn’t that damning. It’s like coming second to Usain Bolt in a sprint, even though you broke your own national record.

add in the zoom and Xenon flash possibilities and the 808′s crown is assured for the moment – perhaps even forever, since I’m not sure anyone will make such a monster phone camera again. Yet it’s easy to argue that there’s far more future proofing built into Windows Phone 8 and its ecosystem – for anyone for whom taking good photos is only a ‘very nice to have’ and not ‘absolutely essential’, and for whom the Xenon flash isn’t seen as a necessity, the Lumia 920 may indeed be the better smartphone choice.”

The pictures don’t lie. The choice is clear. Nokia 808 PureView is a TOUGH ACT to FOLLOW.

Nokia 808 PureView is a convergent device like no other. Thank you Nokia for releasing this wonderful device! Hyperion.

          • Akuma

            Q: You better served with L920 or PV808 ?!

Nokia Boss: “Today we are with Microsoft, but anything is possible”

Gizmodo es Español reports on some surprising words by Nokia big chief Stephen Elop. Asked about a potential Android phone in Nokia’s near future, Elop said that “anything is possible”:

El País: Do you discard launching an Android phone next year?

Elop: In the current ecosystem wars we are using Windows Phone as our weapon. But we are always thinking about what’s coming next, what will be the role of HTML 5, Android… HTML5 could make the platform itself—being Android, Windows Phone or any other—irrelevant in the future, but it’s still too soon [to tell]. Today we are committed and satisfied with Microsoft, but anything is possible.

It’s only logical to assume that Nokia is keeping other options on the table. After all, their contract with Microsoft is non-exclusive. But it’s surprising that Elop is admitting that “anything is possible” so soon after the launch of Windows Phone 8 even while he says that they are totally committed to Windows Phone right now.

Asked about Nokia’s critical situation, Elop argues that the tide is turning, with Lumia 920 being a big success. In fact, he actually sees Nokia getting double-digit marketshare and then fighting with Google and Apple at the same level:

I can’t give figures, but the first objective, without giving any dates, is getting a double-digit marketshare. Then, keep pushing and establish an equilibrium with the other two big ecosystems, Apple and Android.

Quite the optimist. Must be all that pickled herring. [El País via Gizmodo en Español]

I believe the Lumia 900 has the same chip set as the Lumia 800. If so, how does it have a faster proccessor?

  • http://twitter.com/psychomania666 PsychoMania (Steve)

Agree with the Lumia’s, don’t agree with the 808, replace it with the Lumia 820 as that is a seriously great all rounder, not a one trick pony.

    • http://twitter.com/Tams80 Tams80

While the Lumia 920 is the jack of most trades (no microSD card slot, no user replaceable battery) and master of none.

      • http://twitter.com/psychomania666 PsychoMania (Steve)

Those old irrelevant chestnuts :D Compared to the 808 it’s the master of everything bar the camera.

        • http://twitter.com/Tams80 Tams80

The lack of a microSD is definitely a minus. A non user replaceable battery is also not great.

An old chestnut would more likely be the lack of FTMX, but that’s also useful to a lot of people.

  • Shaffy

Ya, im agree that these three could be the phone for 2012, 808 is reallt awesome however the phone for “ever”award goes to nokia N9, awesome Nokia phone for ever, thanking Nokia giving me such fantastic user experience no buttons its all about swipe, nice thanking ,im really sad that why Nokia giveup this fantastic device .

    Sir,
I dont want nokia to be bankrupt, so please stop manyfacturing windows phones, i dont know whats the problems with android to you, just avoid these patent war, and just start using android, and i know, nokia will do better with android and give us better phones, you are nokia, just make your new “UI”interface as like meego you done and go ahead.
I am a consumer and doesnt like windows phone, as nearby my friends do either.
please look at reviews of your phones, they have nothing to talk about it
    thankyou

      I really can’t agree more.

I am and have always been a loyal Nokia user. My present one is still a nokia.

But I’m afraid I’m gonna move to android for the next one and Nokia doesn’t even give me choice for it.

Have been a iOS/wp and android dev. And I know what each of them can do. And still I prefer android. And thsi preference is not gonna change soon.

So i’ll be sad to move out of nokia. But unless it starts manufacturing Android phones. I will switch (and yeah not to lumia/WP)

    • http://twitter.com/idris2rule dexter

i would rather see meego than the buggy android on nokia ..meego would shit on any linux based mobile OS

symbian was world’s best os for mobile phones i’m using it since last 5 years & experienced that no one can match him.
N series is the best grade of nokia.
Symbian provide all general & complicated features like video calling, file transfer over various paths,sd card supports, class 33 gprs, installation of other lower or higher similar platform easily..
    And many more.
    Plz don’t let it go..

Just waiting for the rumored aluminium Nokia with 41mpx camera and w8 (and maybe a quad core processor and 2gb of ram? Never going to happen but I’m seriously hoping!)

Once you’re used to Symbian, Meego or even Android you probably cannot benefit with WP8. Only if want to change your user-preferences. WP8 is a usable, good-looking system (and beats IMO iOS easily) – but for a different cliental than more advanced systems like the ones mentioned above. To the traditional Nokia user, Android is pretty much the only (but not optimal) alternative at the moment (except if you are ok with unsupported Nokia systems).

But Nokia’s MeeGo inspired many other companies to develop something similar (because compared to Nokia they see the potential of MeeGo user interface) and 2013 hopefully will be the year where us users don’t only have to choose between iOS, WP & Android. There’s no good or bad system – every individual prefers something else.

        • Akuma

i like your second statement! its a fact!!

Nokia has produced one of the best and the most robust phones over the years. Though the market has been captured by the “Black Candybars”, Nokia still has the distinction and innovation for creating high end phones which are affordable using Windows OS. Affordable in comparison to its iOS counterparts.

when nokia can make a phone like the N-Gage game again?

  • joewang4

I know it’s not out yet but I think I’m in love with the Lumia 620, which seems more like a successor to the 710 (my phone) than the 610…

  • http://www.facebook.com/fipsata Филип Николов

About that Symbian thing that started here….You (Nokia Corporation) MUST to support THIS specific OS! It has EVERYTHING! I was using the 5530 XpressMusic (S60v5 respectively) and I liked every bit of it! The sleek design (in the time that it came out, the 5800 was not so good-looking), the music quality, the all-in-one features (except for 3G and GPS, but that wasn’t something that I rely on), everything! Now I’m jumping to Belle with the 701 (I must wait a bit, because this phone has very low availability here, in Bulgaria) and I think to stay with it until it stops working! I/We want to see some real support for Symbian! And not those small fixes, DEVELOPMENT is the answer! You are making a mistake with leaving Symbian, MeeGo and Jolla (Sailfish) in the wild!

  • xoj_21

Nokia n9 windows phone is awful

nokia N9 is.not.a.windows.phone. wat are you talking about?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christian-Vásquez-Troncoso/100001489662391 Christian Vásquez Troncoso

really, Nokia MUST start developing for Symbian again, and this time for real. Im also sticking to Belle to its death, but it would be great to see some new symbian phone this year

  • http://twitter.com/NMojovic Nikola Mojovic

You know it’s strange when official Nokia blog doesn’t name it’s operating system correctly:
Lumia 900 DOESN’T RUN WINDOWS MOBILE BUT WINDOWS PHONE!
There is a very, very, big difference.

  • http://twitter.com/NMojovic Nikola Mojovic

And still Symbian sells more than WP, after all that marketing, if N9 had half of that marketing MeeGo would be stellar now…

  • http://www.facebook.com/GeraldJoshuaLovesYou Gerald Joshua

well, i also wanted the Nokia 808, that has a 41 MP cam but i don’t know how much it cost on Malaysia..

Except of the browser and occasion bug 808 pureview is nothing short of amazing. Great improvement and smoother improvement from n8. Night photos are just stunting. Use a tripod for long exposure to get the best result. Also did I mention it comes with its own ND filter!? Also you are able to insert an micro SD card to expend its memory!!!

  • V1ado

The 808 is a masterpiece.. bravo Nokia!

  • Xtreme

I think the best phone is Nokia 808.Windows Phone is not a good os by now,it’s too young.Symbian is good enough to complish my daily tasks.

  • Jonathan Rejon

A good comments I see here, I think nokia should listen all our comments, I have a nokia c7 and is a good phone is highly resistant, but I think N9 is the best (not sold here in spain!!!), and 808 only you can buy it in the phone house. the windows phone OS? I dont like it, sorry is so ugly!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/philip.hough.photographer Philip Hough

did you know the Nokia N8 has higher specifications than the Nokia Lumia 800 .. so don’t be fooled when upgrading !

  • http://twitter.com/alfydunhill alfred msungama

this list is accurate, the best Nokias of 2012 were the Lumias 900 & 920 along with the 808, however, I would like to say, that Nokia’s best phone ever, their ultimate creation, was the Nokia N9 with the amazing MeeGo OS (the best software ever to grace a mobile device.)
its beauty was so beguiling that Nokia has copied the design for premium Lumias.
its OS so revolutionary, that when it was stupidly, mistakenly dropped (by that fat fart elop) the people who worked on it formed their own company (Jolla) to keep it alive.
The N9 is the phone I have used for the past 8 months, and I tell you now that if anything happens to it, I will get another N9 :)
its appeal endures now, in 2013, even though it was released in 2011, and that is a testament to its greatness. i proclaim it (Nokia N9) as the greatest phone ever made!

Nokia Boss: “Today we are with Microsoft, but anything is possible”

    Jesus Diaz

[El País via Gizmodo en Español]

pureview the nokia 808 is fantastic. I really liked. just do not think it’s fair to discontinue nokia symbian. nokia should join the Symbio to meego and nobody could resist such a union. all that we have androids and iOS was copied and improved the symbian was only the nokia symbian improve .. after Pack 2 there will be any further update for nokia 808 … when I send lots of pictures by bluetooth only get one at a time and no more photo album … and he does not have the editor of videos that my nokia N8 had. is very much needed. wait a reteorno
