Sleek stylish Nokia Lumia 720

Brings high end camera innovation to a new price point

Published by Boc Ly on February 25, 2013

The Nokia Lumia 720 announcement today marks a welcome new addition to the Nokia Lumia family of smartphones. It is also a milestone in Nokia’s strategy to bring innovative technologies usually found in flagship devices to a wider audience.

This sleek and stylish Windows Phone 8 smartphone is sure to appeal to a young and design-savvy crowd with busy social lives.

720_465

It has the best camera experience of any midrange smartphone, has a slim profile, great battery life, and weighting just 128 grams, it’s the perfect accessory for a night out with friends.

With Nokia Music, HERE location services, NFC and the option of adding snap on wireless charging covers, it’s a lot of phone for this price.

The Lumia 720 also features innovations that debuted on the Lumia 920 such as enhanced sunlight readability and super sensitive touch.

Smile, you’re on camera!

Nokia Lumia 720

The Lumia 720 is packed with surprises, but its biggest area of innovation is in one of Nokia’s key strengths – the camera.

The main camera has an incredible f/1.9 aperture – that’s bigger than almost any high-end smartphone out there. A big aperture means more light getting into the camera and when this is combined with the same exclusive Carl Zeiss optics normally reserved for flagship smartphones, it packs quite a punch. The pictures it takes are clear and bright in lowlight, and dazzling in daylight.

The Lumia 720 also packs Nokia’s best front-facing camera, which is sure to be popular for the growing phenomenon of self-portraits, or the ‘selfy’. Its wide-angle lens means there’s even room for your friends to fit in the picture. Fans of video calling will also be delighted with its Skype capabilities.

With the awesome camera you’ll want to take advantage of Nokia’s exclusive digital camera lenses, like Cinemagraph and Smart Shoot.

Even better, we’ve got some new apps too. Glam Me lets you edit and play with the images taken with the fantastic front-facing camera, while Place Tag adds location, date and time to the great pictures you’ll take with the main camera.

Nokia Lumia 720

Lumia by design

As well as being the sleekest Lumia yet, the Lumia 720 is also the first to have curved glass at this price point and its polycarbonate unibody feels smooth and almost completely seamless.

Fingerprints should be less of a problem too, as the 4.3” ClearBlack Gorilla Glass 2.0 display has easy to clean technology that also boosts visibility from different and wider angles.

Unlimited discovery and entertainment included, for free

The Nokia Lumia 720 excels in the essentials with free global HERE Maps and LiveSight ensuring you will never get lost. HERE Drive for your home country is also included.

Nokia Music brings unrivaled music discovery straight out of the box, with music streaming free of adverts or sign ups and the ability to upgrade to Nokia Music + for unlimited downloads and lyric streaming for only €3.99 a month.

NFC means it’s just one tap to connect and listen to your favourite tunes using Nokia wireless accessories including the JBL PlayUp Speaker and Purity by Monster Headphones.

Nokia Lumia 720

A Lumia for everyone

The Nokia Lumia 720 slots nicely between the compact Lumia 620 and versatile Lumia 820, and underlines Nokia’s commitment to creating a broad portfolio of smartphones to suit every need.

They are affordable devices that offer the unique features that everyone loves about Lumia – beautiful design, extraordinary imaging, great tools for location and navigation, stellar accessories and wonderful apps.

The Lumia 720 will be available from about €249 before VAT, rolling out from March 2013 and is available in red, white, cyan, black and yellow. The Lumia 720 will be introduced to China in a TD SCDMA variant – bringing this smartphone to the world’s biggest market with the world’s biggest mobile operator.

Congratulations Nokia for this Awesome device.. But please bring these at no late..

  • sri_tech

I like everything about this phone.
Except that there is no launch date for India where this product makes more sense.
They delayed the launch of 620 also.
Meanwhile samsung is selling tons of cheap plastic galaxies in India.

    Nokia,
Please launch this, 520 and 620 quickly to India.

    • Murv90

should be there in Q2 i suppose.

  • zamir yusof

i think it’s worth waiting. i’m on tight budget, but 620 doesn’t appeal to me. this might be the answer

  • http://twitter.com/Strikade Strikade

It’s like the 920 and 820 combined. My favorite specs and awesome design. Finally I don’t have to argue about what I should get. 920 or 820. It’s 720 now!!

  • theprov

Hope for a sensor size of 1/3″

  • http://twitter.com/Hdrules Hradayesh Nimavat

Very interesting hardware specs… This phone will be the go to phone for windows phone 8 mid range choice.

This phone will be selled in Brazil??

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=720680779 Prateek Jassal

Only if it had a 1GB RAM x_X

    • slblack

Why? WP8 is smooth as silk on 512 mb.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=720680779 Prateek Jassal

True mate but then certain games have a higher requirement like Asphalt 7 and I am sure more such games are slowly coming up for the platform

        • Gokul

actually midrange phones are not made for hardcore gamers….. but still 512mb ram is more than enough for day to day usage and playing most of the games occasionally ..
this phone is made for people who have limited budget and still want some high end smart phone features ….

  • http://www.facebook.com/mic.rosatase Mic Rosatase

    I’m jealous. I must have not got a lumia 620. :(

  • http://www.facebook.com/maman.suparman.14 Maman Suparman

I love this with strong battery and nice form….I must buy it

  • http://www.clubnokiard.com/ Frankie Bloise

Awesome specs, this will be a winner!

  • Diazene

there were a couple of problems for me with the 620; no SS touch, the really small screen, the not so spectacular camera and the low RAM (oh, and the lack of good free games)
couldn’t this have had more RAM, it would’ve made this perfect

    • http://www.facebook.com/Prashanth9510 Prashanth Velicharla

its a mid-range Windows phone and moreover if u need more RAM then u can go for 920.
i think 512mb RAM is enough for day to day usage.

      • Diazene

some games on the store require 1 GB of RAM, and android low ends have 786MB-1GB of RAM, and they cost significantly less than the 720

        • LPHeadstrong

Android needs more RAM than WP. It’s just about optimisation. 512MB is perfect as long as you’re not doing anything demanding (intense games).
Besides, android high ends (2GB memory) aren’t as smooth as WP8 low end.

          • Diazene

so do you see temple run as a high-end game (it requires 1 GB of RAM)

and that extra RAM would’nt hurt nokia a bit

          • LPHeadstrong

Temple Run needs 1GB? It surely could be optimised for 512MB.
For most people 512MB is more than enough but I agree it couldn’t hurt. This time next year we’ll more than likely have quad-core, 2GB RAM WP8 devices so mid-range devices with 1GB can’t be far off.

That said I’m using the Lumia 610 at the moment and memory is the biggest problem. It’s a great OS but if you’re getting a phone to last 2 years it needs as much memory as possible for the future.

          • Diazene

that was my point, being future proof

and we don’t really want to wait a whole year to get devices that can run normal games, that most android devices can run, my friend has a dual core cortex A5 droid and it can run subway surfers

  • http://twitter.com/syakniVIN Alvin Sahagun

    Now everybody’s in love. :) ♥

  • MasterMuffin

Nokia makes great “cheap” smartphones like this, but now we need a quad core beast with pureview to compete with others!

    • Murv90

WP doesn’t require quad core like android. Pureview yes!

      • MasterMuffin

It doesn’t need quad core to be fast, but quad core makes it faster (app loading, boot up, 3d games…)

        • http://conversations.nokia.com Ian Delaney

          …running down the battery.

          • MasterMuffin

Not necessary and you can always make some innovations in that area or just make the battery bigger

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000436004036 Dex Riño

          it doesn’t need quadcore.
coz dual core in windows phone is like
          octacore on android.

          • MasterMuffin

Did you read my comment?? And also, there’s really no “octa core”, it’s just dual quad cores that work separately and not at the same time

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000436004036 Dex Riño

i know there is no octacore. i just exaggerated my statement coz android feels like that compared to windows phone.

          • MasterMuffin

Not Nexus but yea, that’s pretty true. But at least cortex-a15 dual core for the next Lumia, thank you!

          • Gokul

if well put dual cores are more efficient than quad core..

          • MasterMuffin

            Not necessarily

  • Isaac Taz

still thinking 620 but now im sure 720

    • http://conversations.nokia.com Ian Delaney

It’s largely down to if you want a bigger or smaller screen – both have their fans for good reasons.

The improved camera is also an influencing factor, of course.

    • http://www.facebook.com/vineet.katoch.16 Vineet Katoch

gud decision, 720 is much sexier nd has 4.3 screen size

I really hope you guys at Nokia are considering on bringing this phone to Canada to replace the Lumia 710 on Rogers, I will get this for sure!

  • Daniel

Is 512MB of RAM enough? Will it be obsolete very soon?

    • http://www.clubnokiard.com/ Frankie Bloise

wont be Windows Phone runs fine even on 256mb of ram

      • Daniel

my dad has a lumia 610. Many apps don’t run on it. Eg. Angry Birds

It`s strange… in this article it is mentioned that the screen is LCD, but on official Nokia web page – IPS. I`ve got confused:(

    • http://twitter.com/anuj_t Anuj T

IPS (In Plane Switching) is a type of LCD itself.

  • CutenessOverload

Shut up and take my money, Nokia!

  • Marco Gomes

Amazing phone. Everything i need and i do not need quadcore, retina or a 8Mp bullshit camera. This one is just right and windows 8 makes it even better! LOVE IT!!!

  • http://twitter.com/Jm_Diaz J.m. Diaz

Why can’t we get phones like this, the 520 or even the 620 in the US?

which phone is the best one between Lumia 620, 720, 820 and 920? (i like to take pictures and go on social media)

    • http://twitter.com/betoelcabo Fabian Canales

The 720, has better camera, price and style.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000436004036 Dex Riño

dont listen to him. buy lumia 920 for best camera performance. in photos and in videos

        • http://twitter.com/betoelcabo Fabian Canales

I know that the 920 is better, but a new one will come in 2 or 3 months. A short time to enjoy a new phone.

    • Gokul

if ur budget allow , go for 920… if ur budget is limited
      then 720 ..

  • http://twitter.com/DanialMdIsa Danial Md Isa

920 have bad imaging capturing with front camera.

    • http://www.clubnokiard.com/ Frankie Bloise

BETTER IF RAM IS 1GB; MAY BE DUAL CORE 1.2 GHz ? Don’t mind buying it if it is priced below 18-20k in India. What abou the ‘OTHERS folder eating memory’ problem ? Has microsoft solved it ?

Hey there, it says that it will be launching on March at Singapore, does it include it’s neighbor Malaysia?

Nokia should put more commercial televisions in Brazil…

  • David

Hello there, this phone is really beautiful and powerful for a very attractive price. The only thing that I think it fails is the marketing, it has to be familiar to more people. By the way, I’m looking forward to see it in Spain, anyone knows when is going to be available over here? Thank you very much.

  • Kishor

when will it be released in India ??

    • http://www.facebook.com/Prashanth9510 Prashanth Velicharla

      April-May

  • http://www.facebook.com/Prashanth9510 Prashanth Velicharla

PLEASE Nokia release Lumia 720 in India asap…..

  • http://www.facebook.com/john.anock.10 John Anock

If its costs less than 17k, would be people’s good choice otherwise difficult for Nokia to establish because top manufacturers like Samsung, Sony and HTC has many good phones in this range. Quite a tough competition for NOKIA.

  • http://www.facebook.com/raxincredible Rajkumar Murmu

Its just a perfect pack for WP8!

  • aniket

when i will come to india…???
    im waiting for it….

  • http://www.facebook.com/chris.yeohks Christopher Yeoh

I kinda wish Nokia will phase out Lumia 820 and give Lumia 720 a spec bump – RAM, processor and gyroscope. Maybe not processor, but please don’t skimp on the so important RAM and gyroscope.

  • LPHeadstrong

If the 820 had the 720′s design it’d be the perfect phone for me. This does look awesome tho. 920′s design with microSD? SOLD

  • Raf Lievens

Can anybody elaborate a little more on the exact launch date in Europe? Q2 is going to start in 3 days, but it ends in 3 months, that’s a huge difference :-)
