We are happy to introduce HERE Maps for the Nokia Asha 501 on the new Asha platform, expanding the list of smartphone operating systems we already support: Windows Phone 8, Firefox OS, mHTML5 and Android.
Aiming to deliver the world’s best maps and location experiences, HERE powers a broad range of devices, from cars to personal navigation devices to smartphones. One of the latest of these is the new Nokia Asha 501, which deserves a great location experience, just like any other smartphone.
With HERE Maps, Nokia Asha 501 differentiates itself from competing devices in the same price range, which don’t have a mapping service.
‘Nokia Asha devices will offer industry leading HERE experiences to millions of consumers using maps on their mobile devices for the first time. Simultaneously, HERE Maps on Asha platform will drive an additional level of scale, visibility expanding Nokia’s HERE platform and ecosystem further in high growth markets’, said Neil Shah, Senior Analyst, Strategy Analytics.
This first beta release of HERE Maps, specifically designed for smartphones without GPS, is a starting point and we will improve the experience over time. But let’s first have a look at everything you can do with it on your new Nokia Asha 501.
You can search for places and addresses in nearly 200 countries, then plan how to get there with drive, public transit and walk directions as list or map view.
Pedestrian routes are of course specifically calculated to use parks, open buildings and stairs when possible. If you’re getting around by car, you will benefit from real-time traffic information visualized on the map so you can adjust your route on the fly and be smarter about making your way wherever you’re going.
Traffic is only one of the map views you can choose from. Alongside to the standard map view we also have public transit lines and satellite images that will be soon be updated to the newest quality.
HERE Maps (beta) for the new Asha platform is available now for download from the Nokia Store.
