Use the power of your Tweets to support the work of indie app developers everywhere.
Do you know what day it is? It is #MakeAnAppDevHappyDay on Twitter, of course.
What? You’ve never heard of it?
Well, give us a few minutes to fill you in on this (unofficial) holiday that is about to take Twitter by storm.
Last month, one member of Nokia’s DVLUP program for Windows Phone app developers suggested that Friday, Sept. 6 be #MakeAnAppDevHappyDay on Twitter. The team at DVLUP loved the idea, and decided to share it with their followers.
How can you get involved?
The idea is simple, and easy to follow along: Pick an app you like in the Windows Phone Store, and review it, thereby giving the developer a new review of his/her content. The “happy” part comes in when you happen to give that app a 4 or 5 star review – do so, and you will make the developer’s day. Repeat it, with a few different apps, for a few different developers, and you can see how this plan will start to have a very lovely ripple effect across the Windows Phone Store.
As you might expect, the idea resonated loudly with Windows Phone developers on Twitter, and engagement with this specific hash tag the first time it happened was very high and continuous throughout the day and well into the weekend.
The developers who participated in this special event on Twitter were highly motivated and excited about the results. Loads of Windows Phone apps got new reviews, and independent developers had the opportunity to easily share their content with a broad audience.
Given the popularity of the first instance of this Twitter day last month, it was decided to make the first Friday of every month #MakeAnAppDevHappyDay. Mark your calendars now so you can be ready for the next one.
