The idea behind Nokia Glance screen is simple; to help you keep track of pertinent information without having to unlock your phone.

Nokia Glance screen 2.0 – part of the Nokia Lumia Black Update – delivers more personalisation options than ever.

In it’s simplest form, Nokia Glance screen shows you the time while your Lumia is locked. Considering how many people use their phones as a primary timepiece, this feature is unsurprisingly popular.

However, in addition to displaying the time, Glance can flaunt missed phone calls, text messages, emails, Facebook and Twitter notifications, as well a host of other application notifications.

Depending on your daily routines and requirements, you also might only want Nokia Glance screen activated during particular times of the day. Thankfully, there’s a bunch of settings for just an occasion:

  • Off – the clue’s in the title – it turns Nokia Glance screen off.
  • Peek – this activates Nokia Glance screen only when you wave your hand over your phone. Or, more commonly, when you pull your phone out of your pocket or turn the phone screen-side up if it’s sitting on the table. Mighty clever. We use it all the time.
  • Interval – used to preserve battery power, this activates Nokia Glance screen intermittently throughout the day, or night.
  • Always on – if you want Nokia Glance screen to display all day, every day, you’ll need to flick this (virtual) switch. However, this may reduce your battery life. Incidentally, you can opt to have Nokia Glance screen always on when charging, too.

Like its previous iteration, Nokia Glance screen 2.0 comes with night mode – a handy feature that makes viewing the screen easy on the eye when fumbling for it through the darkness at 3.57am. What’s new is the option to change the colour of the screen notifications from red, green, or blue. You can also choose the time that Night mode is activated –  just set a start and end time.
