N900 explored in 900 seconds
By Mike on 09 November 2009
You asked for it, now we’re delivering it. When we asked what you’d like to see us do with the N900, we didn’t expect you to respond in the volume you did. It was incredible. But it also gave us one heck of a challenge. How could we possibly show you, in video, the myriad things the N900 can do? The things you want to see it do! We had a chat with the bosses upstairs and hatched a plan. Over the next six weeks we’ll be bringing you a new N900 every day. Each one is inspired by something you’ve asked to see it do. And each one will last 30 seconds. There’ll be 30 in all. 30 times 30 = 900. Clever, huh?
To make it easier to follow, we’ve broken the videos down into nine different categories: personalisation, multi-tasking, online, battery life, gaming, movies, music, GPS and communications. The latest videos will appear on this page and as the list expands, you can dive into any of those nine categories on the right to check out the videos. Enjoy.

Hi,
Nokia N900 modem supports GSM and WCDMA global communication standards, but not CDMA which is used by Verizon.

This is a shame, since the great 3G coverage of Verizon and the N900 are a perfect match in the US. I am forced to stick with slow T-Mo. They have very low 3G coverage in the US. Lowest of all carriers.
I am testing a Droid out now, but the features are weak compared to the N900. Wish N900 would work with Verizon too.

Unfortunately Nokia is a pitching to a global market, and CDMA is extremely limited (don’t try using Verizon or Sprint outside the US). Also (as the latest iPhone ad shows) CDMA technology is limited. Try making a call and surfing the web, it won’t work, whereas on my N900, it works EXTREMELY well.

I’d like to see how fast a Youtube video starts (and plays) in N900 default browser, wifi and HSDPA connections.
Thanks!

Absolutely, and it’s dead simple to get connected to your Wi-Fi connection of choice. Plus, it’ll automatically connect when you wander into range if you want it to.

Will the Nokia N900 work on the AT&T system

Skyler V Reply:

Yes, however it’s 2G only. AT&T’s 3G network uses 1900Mhz instead of the N900’s 1700Mhz. You can still make calls normally, and surf the web, but the web is quite a bit slower.

WHY QWERTY!?? Surely in this day and age, we should be using a more ‘user friendly’ keyboard layout – especially if we’re going to be typing with our Thumbs!!
It’s time to take a Dive, and release a Keyboard that aligns with our modern needs – not designed to prevent typewriters from jamming!

When will my N900 finally ship in Germany? I asked that the German Nokia crew, too, but they didn’t even answer my first request. The second one was answered by a guy from a so called Nokia Care Team, but with a simple copy and paste e-mail that didn’t provide any information but showed, that they do not care: he told me that I won’t get information on when Nokia will be willing to deliver my device, but that I would be one of the first to get it. I didn’t ask them a third time. When I did preorder, Nokia’s message to the world was, that it will ship starting with October. That’s almost 2 Months ago and I did pay for it already. So that is why I am a bit disappointed: not at all with Nokia cellphones, but with the Nokia way of handling customers. Nokia’s got a customer care center but doesn’t care at all about customers!

I’d like to see how to use the N900 as a WiFi access point. The N900 connects via 3G, the device connecting through it is an iPod Touch…

Lets say after some months Nokia says that this ph will work on ATT 3G , will that be a hardware change or a firmware upgrade for existing customers of ATT who brought N900.
