Symbian Smartphone Show: browser battles go mobile

By James on 22 October 2008

LONDON, England – The Internet browser wars have been escalating of late, with Google’s Chrome mixing it up with Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer on the desktop front. But things are becoming just as heated when it comes to the mobile Internet, with Mozilla and Opera releasing new browsers not just in the same week, but on the same day.

“It’s a very nice design”

By James on 20 October 2008

PALO ALTO, USA – That was Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo’s response when asked what he thought of the iPhone’s design. Low-key, and succinct, much like the man himself. Whilst OPK was visiting the Palo Alto office, Elise Acherman from Silicon Valley’s The Mercury News caught up with him to ask him a bunch of questions.

Wooden it be nice?

By James on 15 October 2008

GLOBAL – Regular readers will only be too aware that we don’t comment on upcoming launches here on Conversations. Which is why we’re perfectly able to comment on this wooden handset, currently gathering news steam on the world’s tech blogs. Pretty much every site worth its salt has run a story on this over the last few days and there’s hot speculation, and anticipation on where it comes from (with the hottest rumours being something knocked up by a couple of Nokia’s designers).

Size does, actually, matter

By James on 14 October 2008

LONDON, England - I have on my desk three boxes. One contained the N96 currently residing in my pocket, the other contains the 5310 I’ll start playing with when Comes With Music launches on Thursday and the third is the N85 I’ve got to play with Nokia viNe. Why does all that matter? Well, it’s all to do with the boxes, actually. See, the difference in size, between the N96 and the N85 is huge. Or at least, the N96 box is huge, whilst the N85 isn’t.

The blog in my pocket – it’s alive!

By James on 14 October 2008

LONDON, England – At first I didn’t think anything of it. Whilst secretly I was hoping that someone might actually visit, with no visitors in the 15 minutes or so after I set the post live, I kinda gave up on it. But a few hours later, I took a look at the log, and lo and behold, I’ve had a whole bunch of people come to look at The Blog In My Pocket. Well waddya know! Having simply put two rather feeble blog posts on, I figure I better do some more, so here’s an update from my brand new, pet project.

Nokia Conversations says: Find me!

By James on 13 October 2008

LONDON, England - We don’t normally get involved in other people’s schtick here on Conversations, but a while back we hooked up with Moblogging supremo, Alfie Dennen to help him out with on of his mad-capped schemes – taking Glastonbury mobile. Well, now he’s back with something different, and quite cool. Don’t know the reason for the map below? Then you better take a look at this site and see if you can figure it out.

By Mike on 08 October 2008

Banging our own drum

By James on 07 October 2008

ESPOO, Finland – It’s not often you hear (or see) us banging our own drum but who would we be if we didn’t cheer lead our own chieftains – after all, there are only 25 people in Business Week’s “most influential people on the web” and this year one of those is our very own Anssi Vanjoki. Let’s hear it for the boy…
