USA – As you all know, we’ve been having a conversation about the state of service by Nokia in the USA. The thread started with a passionate but disappointed N95 (ex-)owner. We’ve been digging deeper, trying to get some answers, but more importantly, trying to explore how the situation can be improved.

CHENNAI, India – Did you know Nokia’s plant in India now produces 125million devices? Neither did we. Sachin Saxena, the operations director for Nokia India recently paid a visit to the two year old plant, highlighting how integral it’s become to Nokia’s operations in such a short space of time.

CHENGDU, China – We’re still reeling from the Myanmar cyclone (Nokia is helping via the Finnish Red Cross). Now, closer to ‘home’, an earthquake struck central China. Today I found out that Nokia has a sales office with less than 40 employees in Chengdu. All employees in the office were safely evacuated. We are still trying to locate a small number of local sales representatives, promoters and colleagues visiting Chengdu, and hope to reconnect with them at the latest when the communication networks in Chengdu resume normal operation.

HELSINKI, Finland – Suddenly there’s a fresh feeling that Nokia could be sparking the winds of change on the global mobile scene. This has erupted since the speech given by Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, President and CEO of Nokia, at the 2008 Nokia Annual General meeting last Thursday.

USA – The latest issue of Fortune Magazine packs a brilliant story (we can modestly declare) of the team behind the N810 Internet tablet. Exploring the team behind a product is always kind of interesting, but the one thing that stands out about the N810 team is the location – it is truly global.

AMMAN, Jordan – Experts predict global mobile phone sales to hit 4 billion by 2010, up from 3 billion today. With a quarter of those new connections coming from the Middle East, it’s no surprise to hear about Nokia’s new office in Amman Jordan.
That said, opening a new office isn’t about selling more phones, it’s about doing more for local users.

Yeah, that title sure has a grab. And controversy sells. So when there is an inkling of an alternate story that has more bite, journalists seem to usually go for the bite. But the alternate story can be just plain wrong, no matter how logical or compelling that story is.

ESPOO, Finland - We’re big fans of Tommy V here (he’s the guy responsible for Nokia Beta Labs) and his latest suggestion is just spot on for where Nokia needs to be. He wants to turn blogging responsibilities over to the software developers, so they can have a direct connection with users.

USA – Recognising that one size doesn’t always fit all, Nokia is embarking on a raft of changes in the USA which are designed specifically to better cater for customers there.
