GLOBAL – Another week, another opportunity to win a Nokia N900. Kicking off the ‘Offline as it happens’ campaign are four hilarious (well, I think so) videos of things happening when the luckless chap in the starring role isn’t paying attention. The basic premise being, if only he’d used his Nokia to keep him informed of what was going on, he wouldn’t have missed out on so much. Nokia is looking for you to tell your story of what heppened ‘offline’. You can submit your story on Nokia’s YouTube channel and the winning entry will nab an N900. There’s also a chance the winning entry could be made into the next video in the series.
GLOBAL – With myriad devices to choose from, selecting my top three favourites was never going to be easy. My relationship with Nokia devices is a long one, and there’s no shortage of highlights from it. There’s a few lowlights too, but most of those I’ve forgotten about now. My first Nokia smartphone (pre mobile computers) was the Nokia N91. Four big burly gigabytes of storage (you could hear it whirring, sometimes) and a metal case so solid, in some countries it could be considered an offensive weapon. It was a music device, and I loved it. But it didn’t make my top three. Read on to find out what did. Continue reading>>
GLOBAL – This week Ovi Store snagged an update which saw a much improved search and the ability to redownload premium content for the device it was bought on. That got us thinking, how many apps have you folks downloaded and installed on your device? Be an interesting thing to work out. It’s a pretty simple question, until you start thinking about it. I’m not actually sure what the answer is (I updated the software on my E71 recently and wiped a bunch of good, but simple apps, I had on there). Right now it contains three apps, though there are two others missing which I definitely need to replace (when I get time) as I relied on them. But I know I’ve downloaded more than that. So perhaps we need some guidelines for the voting. The question relates only to your current device, and apps that are currently installed on that device. For the community, it’d be awesome if you share the device model you use and the apps you’ve downloaded in the comments below. Happy voting!
GLOBAL – Great news for Ovi Store fans. From today, you’ll be able to redownload any apps, games or content from the Ovi Store. If anything happens to your Ovi downloads you’ll now be able to log back onto the Ovi Store and, with the device used for the original purchase, redownload anything you’ve already paid for. The guys over at the Ovi Blog think of it as “content insurance”. Continue reading>>

GLOBAL – There’s all sorts of ways we can back up and save our data in the event of something bad happening to our devices (specially losing them, or having them stolen). Following a survey from the folks over at BetaLabs, we figured it’d be a good subject for a poll on Conversations and you weren’t backward in coming forward with your thoughts. 30 per cent of you said you’d find contacts hardest to replace, with images and media coming a close second with 25 per cent. GLOBAL – Last week I posted an piece on how the N900 is designed to get better the more you use it, and over the past few days I’ve experienced yet more evidence of this first hand in the form of some subtle usability flourishes that I came across by happy accident… although they’ve clearly been designed with calculated and well-considered intent.
