GLOBAL – Last week we posted a reader poll here on Conversations based on your suggestions, asking you what extra functionality would you most like to see in the Nokia N900? Now, we never imagined quite so many of you would be so keen to get involved, but the response has been amazing – we just closed the poll a few minutes ago, with well in excess of 5,000 votes stuffed into our digital ballot box, making this officially the biggest poll yet to appear on Conversations.
Earning the top slot on your Nokia N900 wish list with 12% of the vote is the ‘ability to run everything on the N900 in portrait mode‘. Read on to find out how your other most-wanted suggestions fared in the popularity stakes.

GLOBAL – For the last few weeks the folks over at mydailyapp.com have been casting their lines into the sea of apps, games and downloads available from the Ovi Store and fishing out the some gems for us all to enjoy. We’ve had look through their catch and picked out three little pearls we think are worth having a look at. And what’s more, there’s something special just for those in the USA.
GLOBAL – Last week news surfaced on the first official release date for the Nokia Booklet 3G, with Germany primed to welcome it onto its soil from October 22 on O2 (read the full story), amplifying the buzz across the web for Nokia’s debut mini laptop PC. Like its smaller sibling, the Nokia N900, the Booklet 3G has been the hub of heaps of discussion and eager debate, particularly around the specs, and we’re as itching as many of you are to get hold of it, flip the lid, and get stuck into seeing what it can do.
Last week we asked you tell us what you’d like us to do with the N900 when we get ours (any day now folks), and the response continues to be phenomenal (131 suggestions and counting!). So we thought we’d apply the same tried-and-tested treatment to the upcoming Booklet 3G, as we’re sure many of you have smart suggestions on what we should do with it once it lands on on our doormat. AMSTERDAM, Holland – Kicking off the Maemo Summit in Amsterdam this morning came news that developers have been waiting for – the Qt port for Maemo 5. This means developers can now create applications using Qt and easily deploy them across Symbian, Maemo and if they see fit, Windows Mobile devices, amongst other platforms (including desktops). This is a huge boon for the incoming Nokia N900 as it could see a flurry of apps being ported straight across to Maemo. These will join the already plentiful apps and widgets ready to run on Maemo 5. GLOBAL – Yesterday we posted a story calling for your suggestions on what we should do with the N900 when we finally get hold of ours. The response has been overwhelming – in less than 24 hours over 80 of you have shared your ideas, leaving heaps of smart suggestions (read them all here), and they’re still flooding in. Thank you, it’s an awesome response, and please keep those ideas coming. Alongside many great suggestions of what you’d like us to do with the Nokia N900, a bunch of you offered up some pre-launch feedback on functionality that you’d like to see in the N900. We thought this would make for a great reader poll, particularly as the N900 is built on the open source Linux-based Maemo platform, meaning that the development community is often eager to latch onto the best suggestions in order to bring them to life quickly, and into our open palms.
So, here’s a list of extra functionality that a number of you have said you would like to see for the Nokia N900, but which is the most important? Leave your vote, or if you have a suggestion that isn’t listed, select ‘other’ option and scribble down your what you’d like to see. And as always please share your comments below.
GLOBAL – There have been reports online regarding some isolated issues with the Nokia N97 lens cover and lens. We raised this issue with the folks responsible for the product internally to see if they could help shed some light on the situation. They flicked on their product knowledge torch and shone it in our direction, with some tips and advice for those who think their devices might be affected. Get the full lowdown after the jump.
GERMANY – [UPDATE] The Nokia Booklet 3G will be available to O2 customers in Germany from October 22, a little over two weeks from now. The announcement was made today and the device will be available to O2 customers for €249 upfront and then €20 per month over 24 months. There is also an optional flat rate data tariff of €25 per month. We’ll have further confirmation on this pricing as we get it.
GLOBAL – The excitement barometer monitoring the upcoming launch of the Nokia N900 is now swelling to bursting point.
