BOSTON, USA – Despite being Nokia’s most dynamic email service to date, Nokia Email beta is still hiding in the shadows, only available on a beta site tucked away on Nokia’s website. Why? Simple, it’s a work in progress, and one that the team behind Nokia Email is working furiously hard to get spot on. Soon it will be rearing its head on Beta Labs, and that’s when the serious attention, scrutinizing and tidal waves of feedback will start flooding in. With that in mind (and before the controlled chaos begins) I spoke to the man heading up Nokia Email, Andrew Mahon, to get a better understanding of the thinking behind the evolution of email for Nokia devices.

INTERNATIONAL – Here on Conversations we’re always on the hunt for examples of new ways that help enable co-creation and more open communication between those making Nokia products and those of us using them day-to-day. So it was cool to see a brand new approach called the N-Gage Feedback Forum pop up on the scene. Spotted by the eagle-eyed team over at allaboutsymbian.com, this smart interactive feedback tool is a little hidden on the N-Gage site, so here’s the direct link. Read on…

INTERNATIONAL – Last week I got talking to Nokia Chat product manager, Kristian Luoma, to get a deeper understanding of what led to the creation of this new breed of bite-size app. Having ticked off where the inspiration and vision for the software emerged from, I asked Luoma about the app in its current beta guise, the challenges and where it’s headed.

LONDON, UK – I was chatting to the team on Nokia Conversations earlier this week about a story that popped up elsewhere that I wanted to respond to, and quite rightly James simply said “hey, why don’t you post a story here”. So here I am. Oh, I’m Mark Squires, Head of Social Media at Nokia, by the way.

About 10 years ago I had one of those accessories for my phone that enabled me to have two sim cards in the same device. Switching between the two (my work and my personal mobile accounts) was a pain, requiring me to restart the device whenever I wanted to change sim. Pretty quickly, I convinced my then bosses that we’d all be better off if I had just one phone. And that should be my work phone. And they should pay the bill. Well, I was on call most weekends.

INTERNATIONAL – I’ve been using Nokia Chat for almost a couple of weeks, since the day it popped up on Beta Labs, and ever since I’ve been intrigued. Not only by the service itself, which offers instant messaging mixed with a large portion of GPS pinpointing. I’ve also been curious as to where the idea emerged from and how comfortable we feel as users with services such as this, which at a glance could be perceived to have a ‘big brother’ element to them.

INTERNATIONAL – I must admit, the difference between Widgets and WidSets had been baffling me for a while. This was compounded when I recently visited the new Widgets.Nokia.com site, clicked on the ‘download widgets’ icon and spotted that the URL had changed to a Widsets address. Point is, I totally appreciate why there has been some confusion over this, fairly voiced by a bunch of people including Symbian Guru.

INTERNATIONAL – Over the past couple of years as users we’ve been equipped with a truckload of first and third-party tools for digitally sharing media via our phones. Now we demand to share even faster, more effortlessly and definitely without having to spend any cash. When it comes to photos these boxes have been pretty much ticked, with countless mobile apps facilitating those needs, but doing the same with live video has been off the mainstream menu until very recently.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – Nokia’s hunger for collaboration and gleaning ideas from the world’s brilliant minds is one of the pillars of its innovation strategy, and crucial in shaping the mobile future.
