Welcome to the official Nokia Blog. Here we’ll tell you a little more about Nokia Conversations and the team behind it. One thing about a dynamic website is that sometimes it’s easy to forget who’s actually behind the whole thing. Well, in the interest of clarity and transparency, we’d like to tell you a bit about what who we are and what we’re doing here on the official Nokia Blog.
One way we want to notify everyone of who we are and what we are doing is through a ‘pause for station identification’. It’ll be a periodic pause, usually after some change in the normal ways of things, say a site update, a new permanent writer, or a change in how we do things.
The official Nokia Blog – It’s a conversation
We wrote earlier a more extensive introduction to our site goals and philosophy. Basically, we’re here to cover stories from all around the Nokia neighbourhood – it’s about the people, products and services, thoughts, interests, business and beyond. It is about the stories you tell or comment on, or simply want to read.
Also, the official Nokia Blog is about conversation: We need to respect those who speak to us and about us. We need to listen carefully, without being defensive. We need to speak openly and honestly. We are a participant in the conversation, not the drivers. We might be the official Nokia Blog, but that doesn’t mean we want to own what’s being said.
The challenge of being open and honest
Everyone who writes on the official Nokia Blog are employees or writers paid by Nokia. Yet, we “don’t want to preach, toe the company line, or spit out some corporate monologue”. We need to strike the balance between being as open and honest as possible, while still understanding the business risks of such openness.
We’ll try our best to give you great stories from the Nokia neighborhood, without getting ourselves fired in the process. We hope that you’ll let us know what you think of these stories, and take the time to add to them through comments and, let us know your suggestions to make it better.
Who are we?
We are four full-time members, banging away to get this thing going.
Mike Cooper and James Beechinor-Collins (JBC) are our two principal editors. They are the pulse of the site, extracting the interesting stories out of the news, insight, interviews, and what-not, from around the neighbourhood. Mike and James also manage all the editorial flow and guest writers. Mike and James run Republic Publishing, an online publisher of a range of properties including NokNok.tv. They have years of experience in publishing magazines and websites, including as editor of T3.co.uk and as editor-in-chief of T3 .
Carita Koskinen keeps the site humming, taking care of the operational flow. Like an octopus, she chases down interesting stories within the company, makes sure the various online services we use are fed regularly with media and information, and connects us to the right folks within the company. Little escapes her long grasp. She also has time to pen the occasional article. Carita has a long history in setting up and running various online social media outreach activities.
Phil Schwarzmann is Editor-in-Chief of Nokia Conversations. With Nokia in Espoo, Finland for the past seven years, he has worked entirely in the field of digital marketing and media, formerly in the Games, S60, and Nokia.com teams. In 2005 he launched Nokia’s first public blogs, the S60 Blogs.
We’re not the only ones
There is no way our team could do this alone. What we do here is part of a collection of closely tied teams that reach out and participate in the conversation around Nokia, in a whole assortment of ways. Indeed, the best introduction to the different Nokia outreach teams was written recently by dotsisx, from Symbian-Guru. We strongly urge you to read the article and learn more about the other groups, if you don’t know them already.

Hello,
I have just bought the Nokia 5220, with an added 2GB Micro disk! Hooray! But, I have just realized that I might be moving. I currently live in Spain, and bought the phone here, but I am wondering about the capacity to “unlock” this phone and use another SIM card in another country (UAE?). Can anyone help me or suggest where I can find information about this? Otherwise I will return the phone?
I appreciate your help in any way!
Thank you,
Michelle

Hello !
I am also one of Nokia admirer.
I don’t have good experience of service from Nokia Care !
First instance..( two years ago)..I visited Nokia Care to get repair my two CDMA mobile. They couln’t repair with the reason that CDMA set can’t be repaired as parts are not avialble.I bought another set 6275.
Second instance ..Nokia Care Kormangla ( Bangalore) 13th March 2009.(Job sheet no 760).Nokia CDMA 6275 ring tone speaker not working and one key not ok. Mr Vishwanath inspected and told repair charges of Rs550.I agreed and they told me to come next day.( Saturday 14th March 2009).I called on14th morning 11AM and thy told that repair charges are Rs 650 ( more than previously informed charges ).I had no choice and I told i’ll come and collect today.I tryed calling from 3.30PM onwards to reach on three telnos (080-42122115,42122465 and 9845064795 ) but nobody responded as some time these nos were busy and some time bell was ringing. When I reached this center , I found maindoor wa slocked at 5.30 PM even where as timing was upto 6.30PM..I kept waiting /calling but in vain.No response of telephone..
Surprisiggly I saw whole team of boys and girls were coming down at 6.40PM and when I asked about my moible then Mr Viswanath told me that shop is closed..it is not possible now..He was not having any reply except lines are dead..Why people were not lifting phone including mobile no? Why staircare door was locked with external lock? Why custoemrs were not allowed to go upstair in working hours ? why they are not responding to my door know downside?
Mr Viswanath told he is most senior person and I can complain any one !!
I am really very upset with such behavious of so called senior person of company like NOKIA !
I’ll take my mobile on momday 16th March and pay 650 ( no issue) but I can mention here that clarity and professionalism is total missing in this center and Mr Viswanath is very irritating personality.
I also observed couple of custoemrs also came and went during this one hour wait.
I was waiting till one hour as I observed some boys and girls were walking upstair and can be seen from othjer side of road and I wanted my mobile desperately.
I am not sure I am writing at correct place but I cpuld find this palce to write something or to be precise register my complaint.
I am working in Carl Zeiss India Pvt Ltd. Nokia is also using camera optics from CarlZeiss in higher end mobile set.
Nokia is good brand and produces good products. But such care center with such irresponsible person will definetely bring down image of Nokia.
I am also in service industry and know how customer feels !
I’ll be littel happy to receive some positive reply.
Yours good wisher !

Actually people, those “well established channels for
helping you” and “excellent discussion boards” aren’t
at all useful or helpful: I don’t believe that I have
ever seen a Nokia employee answer a single question
with regard to Nokia products. Yes, some people post
their work-arounds, but you never see a Nokia answer.
For one: I would like to know why Nokia ignores the
USA market with regard to firmware updates. It’s over
a year since Nokia released an update for my N-95 – a
US$750 handset, while it has released (at my last check)
three updates for Europe. Furthermore, there is no one
to talk with with regard to the poor build quality of
the units. My N-95 was replaced and the replacement
has MORE problems than the original – again, I get the
run-around from USA support and no access to a higher
level Nokia corp contact.
Honestly, this will be my LAST Nokia handset. Just
thought you all should know since you talk about
being a No-BS forum. Oh, and wait, doesn’t “forum”
mean interactive? Nokia seems to like to talk, but
not listen and reply… Sigh.

This is more of a suggestion but I don’t know where else to send this. I use my E71 for business and personal applications and love the “dual personality” of switching profiles, QuickOffice, QWERTY, MS Exchange syncing, etc….BUT…the one thing missing in this phone and any phone that I can find is a high resolution output for Powerpoint presentations. My E71 has replaced a laptop for all of my business travel unless I need to make a presentation…and then I must either lug a laptop through airport security or carry a USB drive and hope the audience has a computer available for me to use. The first company that can provide an “E-class” phone with true Powerpoint presentation capabilities will probably sweep the business market.

Hi,
I am blogger S60 Betalabs and blogging about Nokia and Symbian from last one year, I have also been selected as Top Most S60 Ambassador globally among 21 thousand ambassador’s who signed up in “S60 Ambassador” program held by Nokia & S60 at S60.com between 2008-09.
But I am seeing that I have given my One and half year to Nokia and I am not getting any of the new Nokia Trial device to review on my Blog- i also submitted my request to WOM World Nokia about Trailing Nokia device but they didn’t respond.
So, where am I – I want to give my visitors an indepth view of Nokia device but, I am not getting support from Nokia.

Just a quick note for those who like to bash Nokia over firmware and support issues. My wife has an Apple iPhone and after “updating the firmware” to the latest version her phone has become so unstable as to be unusable. Apple’s support lines are so overloaded with related calls now that you cannot get through and the support website shows over 100,000 hits on the topic. As one pretty irate blogger noted, it is hard to believe that Apple can have so much trouble with a closed OS and a closed community versus a company like Nokia that supports multiple open platforms around the world. For what my wife does with her phone the iPhone is probably still her best choice, and I will not change her over to Nokia at this time, but I think that it is worth noting again that the grass is not always as green on the other side as it might look at first.
