We’re interested in anything that is happening around the neighborhood. But, we don’t always know everything that’s going on. Also, we have our own preferences for topics that might miss out on that particular topic you’d like to hear more about.

So, here’s the deal: This page is for YOU to suggest topics for us to investigate or cover.

No, this is not a way for you to promote your service or product or to try to get in contact with someone from Nokia. There are other ways to do that.

What we’re looking for is to find out what interests you, what stories we should chase down, what kind of question you have that you’d like to bring up for discussion.

So, let’s open up the comments below for such suggestions. And let’s see if this works.

Since you’ve created this channel for communication, I figure I’ll try this too :-)

I’d love it if Nokia could provide a clear answer on what (if anything) it can or will do to improve service to at least adequate levels for its US N-Series customers.

For instance: If our phones fail through no fault of our own (such as getting bricked during a firmware upgrade), will Nokia provide a way to get the phone replaced or repaired under warranty in a timely manner — say, within a week?

I know Nokia’s Charlie Schick has been talking to people within Nokia about this issue, and I appreciate that. Where are those conversations at so far? If there are obstacles, what are they? Honestly, how likely is it that US consumers can expect progress on this front — and how soon?

I’m not expecting Nokia to have all those answer yet, but it would be reassuring to your US market if you could enlighten us on the process so far.

    Thanks

I suggest Nokia should make it very, very, very, easy to report fraudulent emails. Especially if they appear to be signed by Nokia’s Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer. I have been looking for an “abuse@nokia.com” escalation mailto. There is none.

In order: My response to the scam, then the scam with full source, allowing Nokia to geolocate and take action. Let’s make it crystal-clear: first, you will read my response to the scammer (I am not the scammer), then you will see the full source of the scam email. I do not wish to be consfused with the scammer. I would like Nokia to put him in jail where he could acquire valuable skills.

FIRST, MY RESPONSE: I AM NOT THE SCAMMER

This is a novel twist requiring a different response from my standard (my standard is forwarding to the SBU, the new name of the KGB in Ukraine, where I live)

    To improve this scam consider:

1- Nokia would obviously request a response through a mobile telephone: sending a text message to a mobile number or, better, “Use your phone and dial +447024083554 the Nokia CashSplash Call Centre to find out more about validating your win!”

What you would have to do then is have a trained operator at the above number ready to lead the victim from “Hello! How are you today?” to full data capture.

The operator should find out if the victim has a camera in his or her phone and suggest to take a photograph of the data page of their passport and MMS it to you to accelerate the process. Not as a condition, just to accelerate.

2- Tell the truth as far as you can.

Mr. Richard A. Simonson is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Nokia. He took the position on January First, 2004. Give his full title. The period here “Richard A. Simonson” may not be important to you but it is important to him, show respect and write his name correctly. Mr. Simonson is fifty-one years old, he looks like this:

Pleasant-looking gentleman. Note from the file name that he signs “Rick” when he is being informal. Showing his potograph and signing Rick would be more engaging.

However, Nokia had sales on the order of fifty billion euros in 2008. How likely is it that the Chief Financial Officer would have time to deal personally with a one million euros consumer promotion? I think he would delegate it to the assistant of the assistant of his personal assistant…

In any case, a consumer promotion would be initiated in the Marketing Department of Nokia (not Finance) and executed by their advertising or BTL agency. Lear how to use Google and find out which marcom suppler is Nokia’s.

Another fact to meditate upon: as you have no intention whatsoever of delivering any prize money to anyone, make your offer believable. Nokia users are smart people: they purchased the best brand (mine is a Nokia 6131, not the sexiest but perfect for me, jacknife, can take a lot of abuse, opens and answer with one press of a well-located button.)

One million euros screams SCAM!!!!! . Ten euros, one hundred euros is much more credible to smart consumers. You might recruit several thousoand more victims by making the offer believable.

The +44 calling code is the United Kingdom, not New Zealand (+64). As this is where you really are, again, tell the truth as much as you can.

    3- Be careful

You sent this pretending to be Nokia, it went through BadBoyHost, (message header and source attached). Both might take exception to your behaviour. Nokia might ask BadBoyHost to geolocate you, intimately. BadBoysHost will do it if they want to stay in business. Then the police comes knocking at your door…

When you come out of bankruptcy or (preferably) jail, give me a call at +380673882143 or write to my business email (I updated the record for you)
I consult on digital marketing for companies entering the arena in Central and Eastern Europe. I am always interested in creative people if they have the right attitude and are willing to learn by working very hard. A more sustainable career management strategy than scamming.

I’d like to know the opinions of the people within Nokia on the topic of the recent ‘hacking’ of S60v3.

Could we also get a proper explanation of what Nokia mean when they say that their phones are open to anything?

I would be interested in finding out when Nokia will be releasing their latest version of NSU. A release which will support most people OS, Vista.

I have read on so many online Nokia, and Symbian forums now of so many horror stories, and unhappy Nokia handset owners, its really making me think, Nokia needs to reassure its device owners.

I know Nokia is not to blame for this fault, but Vista is, but Nokia need to keep its customers informed of development, and progress of this up and coming release.

Nokia have already been requesting Vista owners to email them System logs from their computers for a few weeks now, but people are starting to lose confidence.

    Just my 2p

This is bold, this is out there, but these are my honest thoughts: every Nokia employee who gives a presentation to the press and public should have someone recording the talk and that piece of media should be licensed under the creative commons and hosted here.

The value I now see in Nokia after moving to Finland was way way way deeper than any press release or interview I’ve read in my RSS reader, it’s seeing and hearing Nokia employees articulate their thoughts and feelings on the mobile industry and whatever it is they’re working on.

Technically that doesn’t count hehe, but posts I would like to see are details into what goes into a mobile phone. I’m tired of seeing things like “Nokia releases XYZ to compete with ABC,” meanwhile both devices come out within 3 months of each other and people simply don’t get the whole design process.

    Sam,

I have no idea how to help you here, since I am not familiar with your set up.

Have you contacted Nokia Care? Also, have you checked for possible solutions in the Support Discussion Boards: ? The Discussion Boards are a really good place to get answers and issue resolved. Members of the Care team read it closely.

Nokia Conversations is not a support channel, nor are we set up to deal with individual support issues. The most I can do in this case is forward it to the appropriate people. But, I think it best for you to continue contacting Care directly.

    Hiya,

As we continue to live in an ever increasing mobile (geographic) world, there seems to be an evolution towards “cloud” distributed computing especially in a Mobile (computer) world. Products such as Apple’s MobileMe are becoming very interesting and appealing. Is there anything similear for those of us who are Nokia users planned. Not just for addresses and contacts but also perhaps an online place where we can back up old text messages, old pictures, etc. I change my nokia phone pretty regularly and don’t like the hassle of trying to transfer everything. A NokiaMe webservice would be a great product offering that I would be willing to pay extra for. But perhaps such a service already exists and I don’t know about it. Would appreciate your thoughts on the impact of “cloud” services on the Mobile industry and Nokia in general.

Maybe you could address qwerty-phones as a popular phenomenon. Because I think there’s a cultural trend there for sure. There’s Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Gossip Girl & SATC characters etc. They’re all toting some sort of “qwerties”. Do you think Nokia is just missing something with the “oh no my dear, the buttons are for business”-oriented thinking?

First of all, I must agree with “msavela”, is it so hard for Nokia to think about giving away some “In” mobile phones to celebrities around the globe, like Motorola did with the Razr V3? ;P

I have seen people with two to three mobiles and this is as a result of subscribing to two to three service providers. I always keep on wondering why Nokia or any other mobile company should not develop a mobile technology where one mobile can be able to at least use two Sim cards at the same time without increasing the size of mobiles. I think this is possible and is an idea that will be welcome by many consumers

    Solar-powered phones..?

For over a decade people have been talking about making mobile phones truly wireless by cutting that last line (the power line). Self charging phones provide longer calling time, do not rely less on chargers and availability of a power socket (think: backpacking holidays).

Wouldn’t it be a great idea to equip phones with a solar cell on the back. When not in use, one can lay the phone on its belly (front) and the phone will start charging.

Another advantage would be that 3 billion mobile users would eventually use less C02-polluting energy sources…

I like the conversations idea and this ‘Suggest a topic’ section shows Nokia are moving in the right direction in listening to their users.

There is something i would like to bring to the discussion, and that is the way Nokia deliver their care and maintenance advice to their customers.

Working in the Care service myself, i see people on a daily basis who have damaged their handsets, and alot of the time will be down to getting the phone wet.
When put to the end-user that their handset is not in warranty as it has been subject to liquid damage, they are often shocked to find that using the phone in the rain for example is not advisable, and most assume the portable device is made to withstand being taken in an outside environment, and survive.

I know the care information is held within the manual, but the response i see and hear is that nobody(or hardly anybody) reads this manual.

I was thinking would it not be a good idea to show these basic care instructions in a simple manner that the user will instantly see when opening the box rather then scrolling through page after page to read some small print.
Maybe in the form of being printed on the plastic sleeve that the phone is hiding in, or on the underside of the cardboard box lid?

Maybe people should read the manuals in the first place, or maybe the guidlines should be made clearer for the consumer from the moment they open the box?

I believe this would be a huge benefit to the mobile market and I would expect and hope Nokia would come up with the goods first.

    Hello,
I’d like to propose an idea for feature that can be very useful. Suppose, I arrived to China and I need to visit our subcontractor’s office. Even if you have a car GPS navigation system, it’s impossible to enter address in Chineese. It can be very useful if I will be able to call their office up and somebody who has a mobile phone with built-in GPS will be able to send me SMS with his current coordinates(he must be in office of course) by launching some phone application in one click. If format of such SMS messages will be standartized between phone and car navigation soft vendors, such SMS can be read by smartphone with car GPS navigation program. Now I’ll be able to drive to my target easily.

What is latest with Nokia/Symbian and Silverlight/Flash support? It seems like better Flash and Silverlight support would increase the capabilities of Nokia phones to compete for displaying content. IPhone,Android, and Windows Mobile seem to be charging ahead with better abilities to display active content and I would hate to see Nokia fall behind. Silverlight partnership for Symbian was announced almost a year ago, but I haven’t seen anything lately and Flash Lite seems fairly primitive compared with Flash for PC.

My Experience with over one month old nokia product

I was very frustrated with your Nokia 7210 supernova when during an international conference that I was attending at IIC, Lodhi Road I tried to take some snaps of the chief guest Smt.Sheila Dikshit , CM Of Delhi and your product showed battery low signal. To my astonishment the battery level was only 50% . And an additional feature of your product the battery ran out after 2 hours. And till the time I put it to charging point I wasn’t able to use it. I wanted to throw my mobile on floor with a big bang.

I purchased my second mobile Nokia 7210 supernova last month after I lost my nokia 6600 in bus.
    1) From the first day itself as soon as the battery level reaches 50% after 2 to 3 hours the battery goes dead.
    2) An additional feature it takes 3-4 hours to get it fully charged.

Now I am afraid to recommend a nokia product to anyone. The battery performance of this product has firmed my faith in the saying that “always look for another alternatives in mobile phone companies while purchasing a new one.”

Hatsoff to you , you have wasted my 5450 bucks .
You can easily anticipate my decision regarding nokia when I will purchase a new phone.

With respect to Nokia considering getting into the PC/Laptop market:
Silly for Nokia to try and get into the PC market. Smartphone COULD be their niche, but they have to 1)keep costs lower 2)convince AT&T and other providers to bundle Nokia phones and 3) work with their developers and outside developers to make sure that Symbian stays on top of technology integration such as Silverlight, Flash, etc… on top of Symbian to make sure Nokia phones can work with Internet content to come.

Regarding recent announcement that Symbian/Nokia is going to be releasing new OSes more frequently. I have the following comment:
Nokia (Symbian) would do well to make sure that new OSes will work on older phones (maybe not VERY OLD phones, but ones made in the last year or so). The reason for this is simple, if Nokia attempts to drive turn-over of expensive phone purchases by quickly making phones outdated and obsolete, they will drive customers to other platforms OR they will drive users back to purchasing SIMPLE cell phones which can be used to tether the emerging Netbooks to the Cellular network. I know I can do just about anything I want to do (and easily add new software) to a Netbook and can still use the basic phone to make phone calls and make my Netbook do everything else. Keep capable phones such as the E71 and other phones current by making these new OSes available and compatible with these slightly older (but still VERY capable) phones. I understand that new OSes may have some features that are applicable for the older phones (i.e. “touch”), but making recently purchased phones such as the E71 obsolete is not the solution.

Nokia, or a competitor, could make lots of money if they would make a phone for men like me! I’m 65 years old with a hearing loss. It is not too severe, just bad enough to prevent my hearing high pitched sounds, especially if there is other background noise. I’m not too unusual! I know there are many thousands of guys like me who work outside, around machinery, with engines, saws, vibrations, and other noise. It is a major cause of my hearing loss. Vibrating phones are nearly useless, as are all cell phone ring tones and volume settings. They are made and used mostly by young people with excellent hearing. What I need is a simple, rugged phone with extremely loud volume with a very low tone. I don’t need anything more than the ability to receive phone calls, make phone calls, retreive missed calls, and voice mail. No texting, no camera, no e-mailo, no music, nothing else. Just make a phone I can hear on the first ring. No ascending volume. MAKE IT LOUD. MAKE IT LOW. MAKE IT INDESTRUCTABLE. Please Nokia, make a phone for the hundreds of thousands of construction workers, machinery operators, and middle-aged men with hearing loss. If I could find what I need, I would pay a premium for it, and so would a multitude of other guys like me.

@charlie, Well, with respect and appreciation for your reply, the solution you propose is unworkable. Something hanging on my ear on a construction site would be worse than a nuisance. Guys like me are begging for an indestructable phone that rings loud enough to break glass at 100 feet. OK, an exageration, but you get the point. Don’t need cute, or pink, or fancy, or delightful little songs, just loud and low, and durable. Don’t need e-mail, photograph ability, games, ….When a diesel engine is screaming nearby, it’s raining, and the location is vibrating, and the phone falls into the mud I want to hear it!

Just imagine the appeal of a Nokia commercial where a guy like me, amid the noise and deplorable weather conditions mentioned above drops his ugly cell phone two stories onto a concrete floor where it bounces through the mud and water and gets squashed by truck tires even deeper into the mud. AND IT RINGS! REALLY LOUD! AND I PICK IT UP AND HEAR MY GRANDDAUGHTER TELL ME HOW PROUD SHE IS TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY! Or pick your own topic. Just imagine the thousands of middle aged or retired men out here who really would like to hear the phone when someone has something important to say to us. Are you old enough to remember the old Timex watch commercials where the tag line was, “It takes a licking and keeps on ticking”?

The Middle East i believe is strange market. A Nokia Device lasts in a consumer’s hand not more than 6 months. Only do to the fact that Nokia releases new phones. The market mentality and consumer behavior is based on social standards. Mobile phones are part of the status quo. I other words people classify you by your mobile phone and brand. Nokia is the number one phone in the region. I for example, always have to have the latest Nokia phone or i start to get frustrated. I admit i am a technology addict, let me correct that – a Nokia addict. I don’t see Nokia really having an eye for this part of the world. No Nokia online store, No regional pre-order, Less information on release dates for the region. For Example the N97, is very gloomy here, and some shops are making fake pre-orders for 1000€ a piece.

My question is, why does Nokia ignore the Middle-East as a prime market?

My other question, when and where will the N97 be released? and for how much. The official distributors are monopolising the market, which hikes the prices 50% more than US, EU, and Asia.

I would like the option of a button one could use as a “morse-key”. Any system could easily transform the morsesignals into letters, and even “slow” morsers are able to spell the letters in morse much qyicker than by moving the fingers – mine are rather big -around on the small keyboards.

At the same time you avoid the “spell” question, also in connection with letters with “foreign” letters as æ ø å and other, because the morsesystem is international in alle languages.

    seeds of truth?

Please look at today’s Helsingin Sanomat/Nyt, opinions from 17-year old guy (unfortunately only in Finnish).
Main topics on “how to save Nokia”
    - Nokia is only one vendor among others: it don’t have the one feature that would differentiate it from other vendors
    - design is not cool, prices are not low
    - nobody like to use its music player or camera…..if you already have iPod & digital camera you will not pay extra for those in the mobile phone…especially if the quality is worse.
    - Nokia seems to be naive when creating the device of the dreams: covering all kind of features, new designs and lower prices ?
    - Nokia should concentrate on few aspects and either create the cheapest or the coolest model
    - there are too many models currently, impossible to identify & choose the right Nnnn (only numbers, no personality) from the too long menu ….. there is no “hype” around the latest one….

The only reason for me to buy a new cell phone, currently Nokia 5610, would be to have one with an integrated DAB-radio-receiver. So I could go jogging with one instead of the usual and annoying two devices, the cell phone to stay connected to my office and the separate DAB-receiver to listen to my preferred Swiss Classic radio station which is only transmitted via DAB. On a blog of http://www.wirelessinfo.com I’ve read that Nokia’s director of technology marketing Sari Stahlberg indicated in a recent interview that Nokia is open to DAB technology. If this only would come true!

I think there are many frustrated N97 owners out there wondering what is going on a result of rumours flying around the net that Nokia are no longer going to be making N Series devices with S60, but are going to transfer over to Meamo for N Series. Some runours imply Nokia are going to stop making S60 devices completely.

I feel a good article would be a response to these rumuors as if they are true there are many people who would have held out a little longer and purchased an N900 instead of an N97 if these rumours were true and they had known about the N900.

I want to know when Nokia will produce and start selling and upgrade for the E90 business phone.
Also why are the new Nokia phones ( like N97 )available only in Black colour ? Why can’t Nokia make them in dark blue or brown ? Black is often considered an unlucky colour, especially in India which is a large market for Nokia.
Also why does Nokia call their phones with Model numbers like 5800 or 6700 or 7600 ? In many places people add the numbers to check if they are lucky and when the numbers add to ‘13′ , they don’t buy that phone as it’s considered unlucky.
Hope that they get their design people more in touch with the markets where the phones are sold.

I would love for all of us n97 owners who would like to “upgrade” to the N900 to get a group buy discount on the PreOrder of it world wide. What do people think about Nokia doing something like this? But keep in mind, 3Q09 ends 30september. Also, keep in mind it does not mean the device will be available in every country at the same time. Local operators usually decide when and where the phones come out. So, yes, the phone should be available with an operator before the end of September. I just don’t know where (but I can ask…).

    Hi all,

I bought a NOKIA 6700 (Classic) phone from UOB Starhub Centre, Singapore on 22/0/2009. After used about 3 days, discovered that the display screen became black out. Contacted to Starhub and answered that no way to exchange and have to go Service Center although phone is failure within an hour after bought.
So that we marched to NOKIA Service Centre at Causeway Point Shopping Centre, Singapore for enquiry about any one-to-one-exchange on 29/08/2009.
But was told that there was no exchange like it and have to leave the phone for repair. We were informed that normally took 3 working days to repair. (My Job code on the receipt is CWPA0028525.)
We asked to lend a phone before we get back our one but understood that we have to pay deposit of 50 S$ and it was refundable if their phone is in good working condition when return. But we decided not to borrow because we are afraid that will lose our deposit. (We already guessed that Nokia brand is too easy to spoil.)

Since we left our Nokia phone, we had received a few numbers of calls from the said service centre and had been informed that the mother board have to be replaced due to failure and will take at least a month to get spare parts. Till now we have no chance to see back our too-beloved-phone with the pretty problems.
Just wish to throw a few simple questions to all related parties.

    1) Why Nokia is too easy to fail their parts within a very few days in use?
    2) Why no One-to-One-Exchange from Nokia Service Centre although there is no any misuse by your customers?
    3) Why no One-to-One-Exchange from Starhub Center although there is no any misuse by your customers?
    4) Why have to take so long to repair/replace parts? (Understood that at least a month and may take longer.)
    5) Are core values of your company included anything about your customers?

With the emerging insecurity anyone is anymore safe at home today, at any time you can be threaten and people do not always have a panic button at their reach, however often they may have their cellphone in the pocket. I suggest to add a panic button on cellphone that will activate an SMS to be send to predefined contacts (neighbours), however it should be design in a way it doesn’t fire unvoluntary (very long press or protected) it should be fired with one hand and easily identifiable without seeing it. This model I will buy for me & my kids.

    Hello,
Just FYI b4 i post my question: I am an ex-Nokia employee. (left in 2004). The reason i am contacting you here is that atleast you can pass on my message to the concerned department.

In the past 3 years, I just bought my first nokia phone(5800 XM) before 3 months here in US.
In the hindsight, i am repenting my decision to buy 5800XM due to Nokia’s policy and response towards US customers.
2 new Software updates were released in past 2 months: v 30.0.11 and the recent 31.x.xx with bug fixes and stability improvements. But Nokia didn’t care to release either of the updates for US customers. I can understand that we are a small market, but if Nokia really wants to make a foothold in US, their priority should be to keep their relatively small US customer base happy as that good feeling can work as a word of mouth marketing.
But to my despair, Nokia does exactly opposite. No new software update for unlocked 5800 XM.
My US phone also has same bugs as other markets, same issues. Nokia even removed alpha-numeric dialer keypad in their touchscreen phones and haven’t included that in any of the software updates in other markets too. What is wrong with Nokia? Nokia USA’s own phone order number is 1866-59Nokia. Yet they still are excluding alphabets in the dialer?
Who will solve the bugs and issues that i have in the software of my US model.(let alone the hardware manufacturing defects in most of the Nokia 5800’s). You know what i am talking about the manufacturing defect?

In addition to that, new models like 5530 and 5230 get kinetic scrolling and better homescreen, but 5800 doesn’t? Doesn’t Nokia learn anything from Apple, Android, Palm’s software updates policy? You really think that people who have experienced such frustration from 5800 will shun 5800 for 5530 or 5230 or even suggest their friends/relatives to buy those phones? Atleast i will not and many others won’t.

Just to show you how frustrated the 5800 user community is if you are interested, here is one such thread which i think the device and services managing department at Nokia should read:
    http://forum.dailymobile.se/index.php/topic,11425.0.html

I sincerely hope that Nokia pay attention to their degrading image. Nokia is a No.1 brand(in not just mobile) in my home country. You know which country i am talking about ;)

I request you to pass on the message to Nokia USA’s managing dept. that we US Nokia users should also get fast software updates along with other markets especially when we are buying unlcoked phones.

Nokia is a great company, no doubt. But everyone knows that it takes time to climb the hill, but doesn’t take much to fall from the hill. Sometimes i feel that their is more random illogical thinking nowadays than in 2003, when i left the company, i feel that gosh, if i was a manager or consultant, i would give much better ideas and ways to handle the current mess that Nokia has created. [Btw, in 2004, i was a recent college graduate, not manager]

I am afraid, i might become one of those in the above forum, who may decide to never buy another Nokia phone. I am also thinking to sell my Nokia stocks.

Hope to get some positive reply and not the generic reply, from one of you here.

It’s about time that the UK was treated better for firmware updates for unbranded phones.

People are tired of the (false) excuses that nokia care UK have been given. UK people just want to be able to get the firmware on day one like dozens of other countries.

In the UK we still haven’t seen v30 or v31 for the 5800xm or v12 for the N97! This is unacceptable!

I’ve had an open issue of lifeblog not sync as have many others.
NOBODY has a solutino and best I got from official Nokia was to try OVI.
    BUT it lacks features.

Foudn it telling that recent poll on important features for business did NOT have the most obviosu ones of reliability and SUPPORT. I’m guess it woudl ahve looked bad if the truth came out there.

So, how about an insider view/debate on the number of users who DO NOT COME BACK TO NOKIA because of the mess of the PC software and abysmal support.

OR am I asking too much to ahve the dirty washing aired ?

I’ve given up asking support … this question is about determining what support there is, how effective it is and how it (negatively) impacts users. I’ve given up getting ACTUAL support questions answered and I’m sure many worry about committing to Nokia products for critical business/personal tasks without a proper support commitment.
