GLOBAL – Nokia users who like to keep their work in their pocket will be chuffed to hear that Quickoffice Premier 6 has been released for S60 3rd edition and S60 5th edition devices. The update includes support for viewing the full suite of Microsoft Office 2007 documents and the editing of most.

GLOBAL – This week sees the roll out of an S60 5th edition of the mobile YouTube app. I’ve used this app on my E71 previously and it’s a great way of dipping into the curious world of YouTube video (BTW, have you seen our recent efforts?). Rolling it out on the 5800 XpressMusic and N97 is a boon for owners of those devices. I’ve just installed the app on my N97 and it works a treat, is brilliantly quick (over WiFi) and swiping through videos works great.

LONDON, England – New lessons were learned in shooting and directing music videos recently when the video for the Noisettes new single ‘Saturday Night’ was shot using only Nokia devices. 64 Nokia N95 8GBs were attached to metal arms to create “The Transformer”, a multi-eyed video camera which captured much of the footage. 70 fans were also armed with Nokia devices to help capture the scenic stuff.

GLOBAL – Uncharacteristically, we have another “administrative” announcement. The last one was pretty recent and mentioned things likeĀ Blogbite, @nokconv on Twitter, and blogs.nokia.com. This time around we want to introduce something a bit larger.
One thing that we’ve been wishing for is a central place that has all the information on a particular product or service. No, we don’t mean some static page with fancy graphics and long lists of technical specs. What we wanted was a page that had some info on the product, some photos, some dynamic ever-changing info about the product, and something fun. A jumping-off place for all you would want to know about a particular product.
What we came up with is The Almanac. And we think it’ll be a hit. Read on for more details.

GLOBAL – The resurgence of QWERTY interfaces in tandem with touchscreen trends sparked us to ask you the question, “What’s your perfect mobile input interface?”. We kick-started this poll at the beginning of the week (it’s still open, so if you haven’t already, vote now!) and already hundreds of you have voted. Granted it’s early days but there’s one clear front-runner – the pairing of touchscreen and QWERTY, as found on the upcoming Nokia N97 (watch making of the N97 video).
Which mobile input method do you think is sitting in second place? Read on to discover where dedicated touchscreens, QWERTY keyboards, numeric keypads and other input methods rank at the moment.
You might be surprised to find out…

GLOBAL – Nokia Photo Browser is a new breed of image browsing app, that has just made its debut on the Nokia Beta Labs site. Designed for use with S60 5th edition touchscreen handsets, such as the 5800 XpressMusic and upcoming N97, the Nokia Photo Browser app comes toting a slick interface and smart collection of browsing features including ‘Face Browsing’ and a swish ‘MagGlass’ magnifying tool.
Nokia Conversations’ very own man at the helm, Charlie Schick, has been playing with Nokia Photo Browser on the 5800 XpressMusic, and even stepped in front of the lens to give a brief video demo of the app in action for the Beta Labs team. Click through to see the touchscreen interface up close, and examples of how the new ‘Face Browsing’ and ‘MagGlass’ feature actually perform. It’s pretty polished (the app, not Charlie – he’s got a matt finish), so don’t miss it.

LONDON, England – The 5800 will be hitting the Nokia flagship stores in Regent Street and Heathrow Terminal 5 on Friday 23rd – a little over two weeks from now. We said it’d be a hot topic for 2009, but even we didn’t expect it to heat up this quickly. What’s more, it’s available to pre-order from today on Nokia.co.uk and available from Friday 30th January from Vodafone, O2, Orange, T-Mobile UK, Virgin Mobile, Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U.

RUSSIA – We wrote at the back of last year about the myriad tests Nokia devices go through. Well, some clever peeps in Russia have come up with their own tests, devised specifically for the 5800 XpressMusic. Testing devices rigourously takes a lot of time, effort and ingenuity to get right, make sure the tests are consistent and that the product is improved in the process. Testing finished devices happens on a regular basis – even after the device goes on sale – but the process is somewhat different to what one 5800 went through recently.

GLOBAL – There’s been plenty written about Comes With Music, specially since it’s launch in the UK yesterday. But this piece on Wired.com caught my eye, suggesting as it does that CWM “could be the biggest challenge yet for iTunes and Apple’s dominance in digital music services”.
