ESPOO, Finland - The astute amongst you will remember Point and Find from last year’s The Way We Live Next conference. Well, it’s just been revealed that it’ll be seeing the light of day some time soon, in the form of a beta app. We’re pretty excited about this, as full evidence of what we’re seeing as an idea in NRC becoming a real life business.
GLOBAL – Annoyingly, the app itself isn’t out yet but the newly renamed NokiaviNe has been turned over to a collection of blogging enthusiasts around the world, to try out for a couple of months. Ms Jen from Darla Mack is one and she’s going to be charting her course, as it were, on Darla Mack’s site (disclaimer – we’re big DM fans!). Before she does though, she’s given a little bit of background on the app that I think has most intrigued me, at least (for several reasons).
GLOBAL – New products don’t always mean new hardware and this morning a whole new app was announced alongside the N79 and N85. LifeviNe is a bit like the infamous SportsTracker, but for your life. Everything you do can be logged and tracked using lifeviNe so you can easily access the pictures, music and video of wherever you’ve been, either on a map or a timeline. It looks very cool.
GLOBAL – Over the last year or so, Instant Messaging has become as essential a tool in our working day as email. Throw the new E71 into the mix and the desire to take that tool mobile is quite high. Enter the next candidate from the Forum Nokia Innovation Series. WebMessenger Mobile is a tidy little app that’ll connect you to all the major IM services. What’s more, it can also form the backbone of enterprise level IM services, helping big companies keep their workforce truly connected.
INTERNATIONAL – Yesterday I was keen to shine the spotlight on Nokia’s new location-based CO2 offsetting software. Simply called we:offset its the first mobile app to calculate your carbon footprint when you travel by aeroplane, and even do it automatically using location-based info. GLOBAL – Messing around at the weekend on the Nokia mobile site (okay, I was bored) I stumbled across what I thought was a great little app. Pocket Express packs a ton of useful info into a neat little app, offers a free version and upgrades for those who want more. When I mentioned it to Charlie though, and once he’d had a look, his instant response was simply “why is it always news, sport and the weather?”
