BERLIN, Germany – It’s not about who you are, it’s where you are. At least when it comes to context-aware applications. Plazes is a Berlin-based start up that specialises in context-aware social activity, and the latest to join the Nokia fold – the two companies today announced an agreement for “Nokia to acquire substantially all assets of Plazes”.
INTERNATIONAL – Back in April the team over on the See Into S60 blog launched a video contest, dubbed Show your S60 Smarts. The idea? Simply to find the best stories for why many of us love certain S60 apps, and how they become an intrinsic part of our day-to-day. The response was awesome, with heaps of creative short videos uploaded to the Show your S60 Smarts group on YouTube. You’ll notice one of the winning vids in the top right-hand side of our site in ‘video of the day’.
INTERNATIONAL – Sure, heaps of applications have emerged that smartly exploit the built-in motion sensors found in devices such as the N95, N95 8GB and N82. But what is it that truly makes one of these slivers of software stand out and separates them from the guaranteed graveyard of tech gimmickry? The new Nokia Step Counter beta, as unassuming and simple as it is, goes some way to answering this. And it’s simplicity that appears to be the key.

Masses of apps have been enabled to evolve and truly spring to life thanks to a number of key factors, such as the proliferation of faster data connections, and smart accessible advances such as GPS in devices.
ESPOO, Finland - We’re big fans of Tommy V here (he’s the guy responsible for Nokia Beta Labs) and his latest suggestion is just spot on for where Nokia needs to be. He wants to turn blogging responsibilities over to the software developers, so they can have a direct connection with users.
SEATTLE, USA – Microsoft and Nokia are expecting to bring the new
Silverlight platform to an estimated 150 million Nokia devices in the
next few months.
This means a world of new applications becoming available on S60 devices almost overnight.
SAN JOSE, USA – Mobile Rules, the annual competition tasked with highlighting the best next-generation mobile applications and technologies has announced the winners for 2008.
