GLOBAL – Well that’s the verdict according to our most recent reader poll in which we posed you with the question what is the most important feature in a business device? It certainly surprised me that long battery life landed the top slot as the most crucial aspect of an enterprise device (of course I see it as important, but most important?). What’s interesting is that battery life has proved itself a most popular and top ranking feature in each of our recent series of polls, landing first place in the music phone stakes too. Opening the question, do we underestimate the significance of long battery lives, or does it remain true that some devices require it more than others (such as basic devices aimed at rural communities in emerging markets)? Share your thoughts on this topic and read on to find out all the results of our recent business phone reader poll.
GLOBAL – In our series of “most important feature” polls, it seems we left out one type of phone that some folks were asking us about: business phones. But, what makes a business phone? In this day of always-on entrepreneurs, life-work balance, and greater business features across a portfolio of devices (from voice-only to full-blown Booklets), does it still make sense to separate out some features that should be optimized to make a phone more business-savvy? Well, there’s only one way to find out: to the polls!
BARCELONA, Spain – There’s been no shortage of coverage of this week’s big announcement. And in terms of size, the volume of opinions is just as big as the volume of coverage. This makes for pretty interesting reading too. Of the 1,000 or so N97 related stories listed in Google news, we’ve just flicked through a handful of intriguing headlines to see what’s been said.
ESPOO, Finland – If there is one constant in this whacky tech industry, it’s that products get faster and better. Every so often, I get a good glimpse at our future portfolio, and comparing it with the advances we’ve had in the past years, this constant holds.
ESPOO, Finland – Some news yesterday was added to my long list of ‘interesting’ news from the past week. While I won’t categorize all the stories I am about to discuss as ‘bad’, it certainly is the kind of news that makes you pause and look up from your navel.
GLOBAL – The other day Charlie wrote asking about whether Nokia was still in the phone business. He looked at a bunch of stuff, but selling advertising wasn’t on there. But it should have been.
ESPOO, Finland – I remember hearing how when Nokia was this small little phone manufacturer, the next milestone was to pass the one in front of us, in the market share rankings. But that was long ago, as we have had the largest market share of shipping mobile phones for some time.
ESPOO, Finland – In a vile twist of fate, as the bulk of Finland now returns to work, the sun starts shining again. To keep my spirits up, I’ve been looking for anything to lighten the mood here, so, forgive me for tooting our horn a bit more loudly in this post than I usually do. For what it’s worth, I’ll add a video for you as a token of appreciation.
LONDON, England - Yesterday’s announcement is rapidly changing the shape of the mobile industry. We caught up with Guido Arnone from Vodafone who outlined how the venture will be seen as a good thing by the operators.
In fact, Guido outlines how this isn’t just Vodafone, but the whole industry getting involved. Remarkable that we’re seeing the whole industry pull together like this. Very exciting times ahead!
LONDON, England – We recently caught up with Giles Pocock, who takes care of Nokia’s relationships with Movies and Music Videos. His job takes him all over the world and given that it’s a truly global role, his working day begins and ends long before and after ours. Here Giles tells us a little more about what he does along with how and when he does it.
