N96 television snacks feed the mobile TV monster
UK – The elusive beast that is mobile television has yet to tightly wrap its tentacles around the globe, however on-the-go telly is clearly still on the menu looking ahead.

GLOBAL – In early August we spoke to Boston-based Andrew Mahon, one of the key people responsible for Nokia Email beta, to get an inside perspective on it and where it’s headed. Since then we also caught up with Tommi Vilkamo, the driving force behind Beta Labs, to get an interesting lowdown on the future of Nokia’s open R&D feedback service. So it’s great to see the collaboration between the Nokia Email team and Beta Labs continues to flourish away from the pure feedback facility, with Davis Fields this week posting heaps of handy tips for the app on the Beta Labs blog for anyone to soak up.
HOLLYWOOD, USA – Despite the emergence of ‘affordable’ consumer standalone high-def camcorders, many of us remain content with shooting home movies in standard definition and are even satisfied with capturing those motion-filled moments in lesser quality. And of course, much of this digital footage is shot using the camcorder capabilities built into heaps of today’s handsets. Why is is it we’re happy to document our lives this way?
Corporate social responsibility is an important issue for Nokia, and often one of the hardest things to work out is where the border lies between CSR and individual choice. Fitness is clearly an issue where the boundaries blur, and while there’s a sizable and growing fitness community, there are plenty of potential people who would be put off by a phone guilting him or her into jogging. But is prominent awareness of a feature really suggestion?
GLOBAL – In the land of technology it’s often the smallest detail that can attract great attention, and the newly fashioned Ovi icons are case in point – well internally at least, with their arrival sparking heaps of interesting comments and discussion. Designed from the ground up by the Service User Interface Design (SUID) team within Nokia Design, headed up by Daniel Peterson, these new icons debut in today’s video demos of Ovi found at http://events.nokia.com.
GLOBAL – We’ve keenly followed Ovi’s gestation in recent months, with new features successively sprouting limb-like into existence. Ovi quietly stepped into the digital world at the tail-end of August, officially earning its public beta wings and opening the door even wider.
GLOBAL – Maps that move beyond the visual aren’t new by any means, as these ancient Inuit tactile maps show on Lewism.org. The guy behind the site is Lewis Martin, a Scottich Architect living in Helsinki Finland, posted an interesting take on mobile GPS mapping:
ESPOO, Finland – Wow. There seems to be a lot going on in the tech world, from gigantic steampunk spiders to thumbs-down for gimmicky ad campaigns to tech dirt being slung around in all directions.
HELSINKI, Finland – Imagine sitting down in front of your computer and manually and meticulously stitching together thousands of photos of Nokia devices together to create a self portrait… then thank the stars you don’t have to because there’s software out there that does all the grunt work (even if you were somehow in anyway inclined to do so). Find out more about the guy responsible right here…
