Best of 2008 in Future Technologies – Morph

GLOBALMorph managed to capture the imaginations of so many us when it was first unveiled as a concept device back in March 2008, showcased at the The Museum of Modern Art “Design and The Elastic Mind” exhibition. By boldly waving a red rag of future mobile possibilities in front of our eyes and we collectively rushed towards it intensely intrigued.

It was a glimpse at a future, and not necessarily the future, nonetheless, looking forward inspired reaction, contemplation and an air of positivity and promise.

Something we reckon that is worth championing.

Extra sensory perception

LONDON, England – We got our first snow of the winter at the weekend, despite the fact that technically we’re still in Autumn (cue annual debate about seasons). This is interesting only because of what happened to me when I got into my car. Early on Sunday morning, it was 1 degree centigrade. Not cold by Finnish standards, but chilly enough for the middle of November in London. What happened next surprised me, and also made me think.

Vision of the future

ESPOO, Finland - Nokia Research Center’’s chief visionary, Leo Kärkkäinen, summed up the chief, erm, reckons his job is about ‘finding the seeds of the future in the present’ and ’searching for trends that’ll affect billions, but are barely visible now’. Sounds sensible, but some of his visions for the future are pretty out there.

LONDON, England ‚Äì Nokia’s customer base consists of one billion customers. That’s about one sixth of humanity, according to a story in The Guardian. What better place to start when it comes to testing and evolving product concepts? Nokia already invests significant amounts in understanding its customers, but it’s projects like Morph which get instant reaction.
