Peek behind the curtain of Nokia’s design studio in London

GLOBAL – Over the past month we’ve been granted rare access, fascinating insight and candid chat related to a bunch of innovative design projects taking place at Nokia’s design studio in London. It’s certainly one of the Nokia hotspots for design innovation. From gesture and homescreen ingenuity to icon creation and the craft of “making communication more human” (as told to us recently by Axel Meyer, head of Nseries design at Nokia), our recent exposure to the design studio in London has painted an engrossing picture of what happens behind the curtain and how the people at Nokia holding the crayons go about bringing new devices and experiences to life.

What’s behind an icon? (video)

LONDON, England – That’s what Nokia designer Rob Williams set out to discover in this video made in London. First Rob took a look at the different (hundreds) of icons and signs he sees on his journey to work. Icon design is indeed a craft, but not one I’ve ever given much thought to. You see an icon and it’s instinctive as to what it’s for. There’s been a big leap in Nokia icons over the last few years, particularly as the range of services and applications has grown. New one-size-fits-all Ovi icons

GLOBAL – In the land of technology it’s often the smallest detail that can attract great attention, and the newly fashioned Ovi icons are case in point – well internally at least, with their arrival sparking heaps of interesting comments and discussion. Designed from the ground up by the Service User Interface Design (SUID) team within Nokia Design, headed up by Daniel Peterson, these new icons debut in today’s video demos of Ovi found at http://events.nokia.com.
