GLOBAL – In the past month, Nokia has launched four new devices in the XpressMusic range. Add to that the rolling thunder that is the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and you have the makings of a strong range of music devices in various price points and shapes and sizes. Something to suit everyone.
Is this for real? Is this just a flash in the pan or is Nokia really jamming to the music?
In this article, we review Nokia’s history in music (check out the milestones) and make some points about XpressMusic and Comes With Music. We hope to show that Nokia is sitting in the sweet-spot of devices, services, and customer desires, suggesting a tipping-point for the whole music industry.
GLOBAL – So, what’s going to be hot this year? Well, we’re no astrologers, but to be fair, it doesn’t take a genius to work out what will be tripping off the tongues of folks around Nokia, and the wider Nokia community, this year. We’ve been scratching our heads, and come up with our little list. Feel free to add yours at the end. Full rundown, after the jump.
GLOBAL – Sometimes it’s the stories that come out of nowhere that blindside you with excited response and become almost cult in their popularity. The piece we ran on the Music Headset Almighty Competition was one such happening, striking a chord with you right here on Conversations, and spreading its tendrils across some of the most popular sites on the planet, including Engadget and Textually.org.
Now, popularity isn’t what made us choose this creative competition as one of the best stories of 2008 in Design (although collective hysteria always helps).
GLOBAL – A couple of weeks ago James put it out there that he didn’t (nor did I) get the marketing for Comes With Music in the UK, and felt it confused more than communicated what the service is all about and how it works.
GLOBAL – There’s been plenty written about Comes With Music, specially since it’s launch in the UK yesterday. But this piece on Wired.com caught my eye, suggesting as it does that CWM “could be the biggest challenge yet for iTunes and Apple’s dominance in digital music services”.
LONDON, England - When Tero Ojanperä took to the stage at the Remix event the other week, to describe what happens when users enter their Comes With Music pin code into the Nokia Music Store he simply said: “the prices disappear, the candy store is open”.
LONDON, England (And Espoo too…) – We’re not ones to keep you starved here on Conversations. So Charlie’s been busying himself in Espoo by getting some video up and running.
Check it out after the jump where you’ll get a handy overview on the 5800 XpressMusic’s tasty new features. Enjoy.
