Sorting through 1100 rumors a day

ESPOO, Finland – Rumors are a normal part of life. Someone hears something or thinks they heard something and, next thing you know, it’s repeated everywhere as fact.

For the most part, here at Nokia, we follow those rumors, but let most of them be. One year of Nokia Conversations

ESPOO, Finland – Wow. Today is our first anniversary (we went public on 21 April 2008*) and it’s amazing what we’ve accomplished in one year. When we set off on this adventure, we sort of had our own ideas on how it would be received, what challenges we would face, and where we would be at this stage. But, we really came to this with open minds and few expectations, keeping us ready to grow and respond to conditions as needed.

As with many milestones, we’d like to pause and take stock of some of our highlights (and “lowlights”) and even think a bit about the coming year. Please read on and see if you remember the year the same way we do.

Video: Nokia N97 showcases touchscreen news app at Web 2.0

SAN FRANCISCO, USA – Last week Conversations editor Charlie Schick was out at Web 2.0 expo 2009 in San Francisco, shooting clips of some of the coolest stuff from the show floor. One of the lesser-seen slivers of software was a smart Associated Press (AP) touchscreen news app, slated to launch in May to coincide with the opening of the Ovi Store, primed for use on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and then the Nokia N97 in June.

We witnessed the tactile Associated Press news app in action, demoed by Kate Butler from the AP. It features a slick interface for engaging with the latest news and photos – you can even caption their images with comments or share pics. Click through to watch a video of it in action on the N97.
