BARCELONA, Spain – Today sees the newest installment of Nokia Maps emerge with Ovi integration and stacks of smart guidance upgrades. Building on the context aware roots of the previous incarnation of Maps, this latest version has evolved to expand on the original vision and include more social mapping tools and introduce a new cross-platform twist between mobile and PC.
EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands – I stopped by the Beta Labs blog this morning, and it was great to see the team actively supporting and encouraging its community to engage in a new cross-industry study about co-creation. The research is being performed at the Eindhoven University of Technology and a Dutch research institute, and is being led by a lady called Kim op den Kamp. She’ll be interviewing active participants on the Beta Labs site (so if you’re one head over), asking interesting simple questions such as “what are the benefits of participating?”. I’m intrigued to find out what findings the study uncovers. Doubly so because with Beta Labs users engaging in the study (already a bunch have come forward to help), it’s clear that the investigation into co-creation is helping to be fuelled by what I believe to be one of the most engaged and progressive online environments currently active in co-creation.
ESPOO, Finland – Nokia has many ways in which it works with customers on products (here is a great overview). The folks at Nokia Beta Labs are constantly finding software and services that are being developed and many in internal testing with employees (though our Alpha Labs team, of course). When they find something interesting, they put them in the Beta Labs for the public to use, rate, comment on, and help improve. And, beta products that do well end up graduating and going off into the world.
ESPOO, Finland - We’re big fans of Tommy V here (he’s the guy responsible for Nokia Beta Labs) and his latest suggestion is just spot on for where Nokia needs to be. He wants to turn blogging responsibilities over to the software developers, so they can have a direct connection with users.
ESPOO, Finland – With new mobile devices becoming ever more capable (think N95 with personal navigation, 5-megapixel camera and a multitude of other audio and video talents) they need to be fed with ever more complex applications.
