UK – We’ve just been told by the folk over at Nokia Messaging that they’ve be doing some routine testing this evening that accidentally led to the deactivation of a small number of Nokia Messaging UK accounts. If you’ve noticed your account isn’t responding, don’t worry as the team assure us that they’re working hard to restore the deactivated accounts and that regular service will resume shortly – some of the affected accounts will be re-activated within the next few hours with the rest coming back online steadily over the weekend and early next week.
Finally the guys asked us pass on their sincere apologies for any inconvenience it may and caused to anyone affected.
So if you’re in the UK and are experiencing a Nokia Messaging blackout, our advice is to do what we Brits do best in a blackout… stick the kettle on and make nice brew, until it all blows over.

GLOBAL – “We just put it up there, and more than a quarter of a million people signed up”. So said Purnima Kochikar, director of consumer messaging at Nokia, in a speech to developers this morning at the Nokia Developer Summit in Monaco. And that’s just in four months, with little or no marketing behind the service.
Ovi Mail is designed as a consumer email service where the users don’t need to access a PC to set up an account – the whole thing can be done right there on the device. And it shows too, as the service was designed mostly for those of us who don’t have ready access to a computer, and aims to help the other part of the world to get online and connected. The result? 10 of the top 12 countries using the service are emerging markets.
