Best of 2008 in Design – Co-creation at Beta Labs and Nokia Pilots

ESPOO, Finland - This was the year that Nokia really engaged with their most passionate users over new and future products and services. Two of the best examples of this are the Nokia Beta Labs and Nokia Pilots. Fascinated by their progress, we visited the respective teams repeatedly over the past year. Both are driven by the growing understanding at Nokia that the company can’t do all the innovation alone, that it helps to involve real users in the process.

Nokia Pilots prepare for lift-off

At the tail end of last week Charlie wrote a piece on co-creation and Conversations. Basically a piece on how sites like ours and ongoing projects such as Nokia Beta Labs are hoping to bridge a gap between big old Nokia and anyone out there interested in having an influence and being heard. Sure, it’s small acorns at the moment, but momentum is beginning to grow on this front which is hugely exciting for all involved.
