GLOBAL – Two bits of good N97 related news cross our desk today, the first that the Nokia N97 mini hits the world’s shelves this week and the second that the N97 software update 2.0 is available to download. The Nokia N97 mini brings with it a raft of new software features, alongside a diminutive stainless steel frame but still with all the things people love about its original bigger brother. Read on to find out what’s in store. Continue reading>>
GLOBAL – That headline is the most used statement in response to last week’s poll “what do you expect from a software update?” I must say, the response took me by surprise, in that I knew it would be a hot topic, but didn’t quite realise how hot. The good news is we’ve engaged the guys behind the Software Updates and they’re really keen to talkĀ on Conversations about how this stuff works – we’re hoping to have a story ready in the next day or two. Meanwhile, it’s time to analyze the results of the poll. Continue reading>>
GLOBAL – Earlier in the week we announced our Summer Blowout with the news of our comment of the week promo, where we’re giving away a Gravity license for the best comment made on Conversations every week. Also earlier this week, we ran a poll asking what you expect from a software update. Well, what a hot potatoe that turned out to be (results and hopefully some follow up coming next week). There were many points, all well made, but one for me stood out more than most. Read on to find out who said what, and why it mattered. Continue reading>>
GLOBAL – Last week’s cameraphone poll got plenty of feedback, including this suggestion from lupixx – what do you expect to see in a software update? Although we had a different poll planned for today, we figured this one was good enough to run instead so let us know what you think. Software updates are a regular part of our lives now, and for many a welcome addition. That we’ve bought a device, but it’s still being developed offers an assurance that what we have will constantly improve, at least through the period of time we’ll own and use it. Question is though, what kind of improvements do we expect? Get your vote in now!
[UPDATE] If you opt for the “other” option, we’ll compile all the answers and publish them next week, with some attempt to weigth them in popularity order.
USA – The original source of Amy Gahran’s problems stem from Nokia Software Update. The software responsible for ensuring the latest version of firmware is available on your device. In Amy’s case, updating the firmware on her new N95 turned the device into a brick, and resulted in her experiencing Nokia’s US customer service.
USA – During the first week of Conversations’ public debut, an issue was highlighted which hit perfectly with one of the reasons the site exists in the first place. Having had a terrible experience with Nokia customer service in the USA, Amy Gahran wrote a post on her blog about it. And then she told us about it on here. And boy, are we glad she did.
