HOLLYWOOD, USA – Despite the emergence of ‘affordable’ consumer standalone high-def camcorders, many of us remain content with shooting home movies in standard definition and are even satisfied with capturing those motion-filled moments in lesser quality. And of course, much of this digital footage is shot using the camcorder capabilities built into heaps of today’s handsets. Why is is it we’re happy to document our lives this way?

GLOBAL – Two new devices were launched this morning, marking the next stage of multi-talented devices from Nokia. The all-new N85 is stuffed to the gills with features and functions including N-Gage gaming, 5-megapixel camera, voice navigation and music with built-in FM transmitter. It’s dubbed the definitive entertainment package. The N85 is joined by the new N79 which packs a top feature set with interchangeable covers with matching screen themes to offer one the ultimate in customisation.
GLOBAL – All right then! Yes, we are keeping an eye on the iPhone. Who doesn’t? All because we don’t start a whole nasty fight à la Coke-Pepsi (or even Apple-IBM) doesn’t mean we aren’t buying iPhones and combing over them with an electron microscope (we’re not actually, but we are looking closely).
THE CLOUD – Today I want to point out and ask a bit out what you think of the future of internet services. Will it all be stored somewhere (say, Oregon) for us to access from anywhere. Will data and computing be Everywhere?

GLASTONBURY, England – We’re only days away from the start of one of the biggest music festivals in the world and it’s good to see that the latest tech is being employed to keep revelers in the know. Alfie and crew from Moblog have collaborated with the likes of WaterAid, Greenpeace and Oxfam to create the ultimate Glastonbury Mashup. Armed with a gaggle of N78s and N82s, the crew will be wandering the festival and using the phone’s cameras and GPS to shoot and geotag the most interesting stuff at the event.
INDIA – Last week I mused about mobile attraction and what ignites the flame? This lead to a mini epiphany that it could simply be the charming idiosyncracies of a device such as the smart FM Transmitter in the N78 that can trigger the spark. Well, if that is the case India is set to be buzzing like a firecracker, because the N78 has just landed.
CANNES, France – What would happen if you gave a bunch of advertising young guns from all around the world some Nseries devices and a brief to create 60-second viral videos? Well, we’re about to find out because that’s what Nokia’s doing with the Young Lions Film Competition at the upcoming Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival which kicks off next week.
USA – When Amy Gahran called about getting her bricked N95 fixed she was told it could be 30 days before she’d see her phone again. What’s more, she’d have to ship it herself. We’ve taken these issues to Nokia USA and they’ve come back with some good, and useful info.
