GLOBAL – In a little over six months over one million users have signed up for an Ovi Mail account. With the top five countries including India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia and South Africa its clear the idea of on-device email set up and use is proving to be hugely popular in developing countries. This is a great milestone for the team behind Ovi Mail and evidence that the service launch is timely and fulfilling a definite need. Only 25 per cent of the global population are on email right now – Ovi Mail is designed for the other 75 per cent. Ovi Mail users need never touch a PC yet can be completely connected to the online world through their mobile device.

ESPOO, Finland – Just as the trickle-down effect of innovative mobile technology is flowing into mid-range and entry level handsets, today’s unveiling of the new Nokia 2720 fold, which will launch in the third quarter of 2009 for around 55 Euros, highlights how top-class design can be tailored for emerging markets at a price that makes style available to all.
GLOBAL – “We just put it up there, and more than a quarter of a million people signed up”. So said Purnima Kochikar, director of consumer messaging at Nokia, in a speech to developers this morning at the Nokia Developer Summit in Monaco. And that’s just in four months, with little or no marketing behind the service.
Ovi Mail is designed as a consumer email service where the users don’t need to access a PC to set up an account – the whole thing can be done right there on the device. And it shows too, as the service was designed mostly for those of us who don’t have ready access to a computer, and aims to help the other part of the world to get online and connected. The result? 10 of the top 12 countries using the service are emerging markets.
INDIA – Nokia India has created a handy website, emailwithease.com, to help users there get to grips with mobile email. Focusing on the soon to launch E75, the site walks users through a host of scenarios to highlight the benefits of mobile email. It also provides a range of how to videos, to show how easy it is to complete a range of mobile email related tasks.
