MyDailyApp highlights – DocScanner, Dad’s Cab and Trapster

DocScannerGLOBAL – Every day the folks at MyDailyApp.com home in on a new Ovi Store app that’s caught their eye, and at the end of each week we look back over the previous seven days and bring you the best of the bunch right here on Conversations. This week we start with Norfello’s DocScanner, which does pretty much what the name suggests. Take a photo of a document on any S60 handset, crop it down to size then save it as an image file.

What else could Ovi Store do?

Ovi StoreGLOBAL – This week a comment on our N-Gage moving to Ovi Store story sparked our brains into thinking about what else could fill the Ovi Store shelves. Right now we have apps, games, ringtones, wallpaper and videos kicking around, but what else could exist there? The comment in question raised the notion of it becoming a new home for Beta Labs. There are myriad reasons why that wouldn’t work (which we’ll cover below). As we’ve seen recently, improvements to the Ovi Store are coming thick and fast, and show no sign of abating. The team there are working 24/7 to whip things into shape and make the store the best place possible for as many users, and devices, as possible.

Video: Mark Ollila of Nokia discusses N-Gage and Games on Ovi Stor

Mark Ollila and Games on Ovi Store – video

Mark-ollilaGLOBAL – He’s probably the busiest person at Nokia right now, but we managed to snatch a few minutes with the man responsible for games at Nokia yesterday. With the backdrop of last week’s news about the move for Ovi Store to become the new home for games at Nokia, Mark spoke quite candidly about the move, and let slip a couple of treats we have coming up – and no, the touch version of Dance Fabulous isn’t one of them (even though that is incoming on Ovi Store).

Ovi Store – the new home for mobile gaming

Ovi-Store-GamesGLOBAL – As N-Gage begins its transition to the heaven for mobile gaming platforms, a new home is emerging with a whole host of treats lined up. Ovi Store has been sporting an ever increasing range of games since its launch and now that’s set to accelerate further as it picks up the gaming torch from N-Gage. Moving mobile gaming to one central home alongside apps and other content makes complete sense to me and I’m looking forward to seeing what it brings for users.

Poll: How many apps are you running?

ovi-storeGLOBAL – This week Ovi Store snagged an update which saw a much improved search and the ability to redownload premium content for the device it was bought on. That got us thinking, how many apps have you folks downloaded and installed on your device? Be an interesting thing to work out. It’s a pretty simple question, until you start thinking about it. I’m not actually sure what the answer is (I updated the software on my E71 recently and wiped a bunch of good, but simple apps, I had on there). Right now it contains three apps, though there are two others missing which I definitely need to replace (when I get time) as I relied on them. But I know I’ve downloaded more than that. So perhaps we need some guidelines for the voting. The question relates only to your current device, and apps that are currently installed on that device. For the community, it’d be awesome if you share the device model you use and the apps you’ve downloaded in the comments below. Happy voting!

Ovi Store update – redownload enabled

Ovi-storeGLOBAL – Great news for Ovi Store fans. From today, you’ll be able to redownload any apps, games or content from the Ovi Store. If anything happens to your Ovi downloads you’ll now be able to log back onto the Ovi Store and, with the device used for the original purchase, redownload anything you’ve already paid for. The guys over at the Ovi Blog think of it as “content insurance”.
