GLOBAL – There’s all sorts of ways we can back up and save our data in the event of something bad happening to our devices (specially losing them, or having them stolen). Following a survey from the folks over at BetaLabs, we figured it’d be a good subject for a poll on Conversations and you weren’t backward in coming forward with your thoughts. 30 per cent of you said you’d find contacts hardest to replace, with images and media coming a close second with 25 per cent.

GLOBAL – Ever since it was first announced I’ve had something of a curious fascination with the way the word Ovi is pronounced. I’m sure I’m not alone, either. Mike did a video of it last year, interviewing a bunch of folks and asking them to pronounce Ovi (well, me and his family). There seems to be a consensus there that it’s drawn out, rather than a harsh drop. So, more “oh-v-ee” than “awe-v”.

BOSTON, USA – One of the benefits of knowing the unknowns, the things that are unknown to the public, but known to the company, is that it gets exciting when folks start speculating – about launches, devices, direction, moves. And I like speculating as much as the next guy.
Of course, we don’t substantiate rumors or talk about those known unknowns (that’s usually called a leak). And it’s a hard balance to say enough to show where we are going, without giving the game away. In some cases this can put us in an unfavorable light. For example, it’s sometimes foolish to suggest we released a solution in response to a competitor device or service, when in actuality, solution timelines were long set before the competitor revealed its solution. Or, all of us have to wear a Finnish poker-face, because we can’t really to talk about a leaked product everyone is excited about.
Today, there are some links we’d like to share. In the past week, we’ve had more than enough concrete stuff to be excited about. But here are three articles that are examples of the hopeful speculation we usually like to read. There is also one, to remind us that even when we do reveal something, it might not be so exciting in the end.
STUTTGART, Germany – With the dust now beginning to settle from two days of Nokia World 09 mania, it’s time to look back at the stand-out moments from the show. BOSTON, USA – Nokia World 2009 is just around the corner. As the biggest Nokia event of the year, Nokia World has reflected the evolution of products and thinking at Nokia. So, we did some digging into the origins of Nokia World to see what was said (or not) over the years.
We found out that Nokia World has been around for a while (next week is the 14th), and the event always packs a wallop in terms of what gets put on display there. It has been the main venue to announce some big things for the company (we list a few). Even from its modest first event, the goal was to bring interested folks together to talk about new Nokia products that would (it was expected) shake the industry. But, as we discuss below, not all the big announcements happen at Nokia World.
