Exclusive video: A peek into Nokia’s phone cache

ESPOO, Finland – Walking through the office the other day I happened upon a long table crammed with suitcases full Nokia phones from the last 20 or so years. Turns out Nokia was asked to lend 100 devices for a design exhibition at Fiskars, here in Finland. The ladies involved, Tarja Österberg and Annamari Qvist have been with Nokia for a long time and are the best ones to pick out the devices with the most history.

I noticed lots of folks stopping to look at the phones, many reminiscing which was their first, their old-time favourite, and even a few that they launched. A true walk down memory lane for many of us.

But don’t let me keep you from seeing the video and meeting Tarja and Annamari. So, go ahead, and click through. Keep your eyes open, too, and see how many phones you can identify!

Poll: Nokia fish vs buffalo

GLOBAL – Who would’ve thought that fish and buffalo would have a sweet tooth for mobile phones. In the past week we’ve been greeted with two remarkable phone survival stories – one about a Nokia-eating fish and a buffalo with a penchant for mobile handsets.

Read all about the fish that ate a Nokia 1600, and the buffalo that swallowed a phone.

Now vote for your favourite phone survival story. Will it be Nokia fish or buffalo? You decide!

Nokia 1600 phone found in fish belly… and still works!

ENGLAND, UK – I opened this morning’s edition of The Sun newspaper to find myself greeted with an image of a large fish with a Nokia 1600 poking out of its mouth. As you can imagine the story behind this bizarre image is just as strange, and turns out to be somewhat of a testament to the fortitude of many Nokia devices. The Sun reported that a Nokia 1600 was found inside the belly of a 25lb cod caught out at sea by a suitably surprised fisherman – even more surprising was the fact that the phone still worked and was able to make phone calls.

Read on for the full fishy details of what happened, and to post your comments on this stranger than fiction survival story.

The Nokia 6720 Classic: Unsung hero

BARCELONA, Spain – For me, one of the unsung heroes of the show is the Nokia 6720 Classic. It wasn’t mentioned in the press conference, except for a very brief comment at the end when everyone was leaving. It’s not as conventionally sexy as the Nokia N86 8MP or the Nokia N97, which were mobbed by the booth visitors and picked up all around the web.

Not content to let the device go unnoticed, we did a drive-by video at the booth with the Nokia 6720 Classic product manager, Jani Aaltonen. He had told us earlier of a funny story from a recent customer event, so I wanted to catch it on video to share it here (click through to see it).
